Bucs Add Running Back, Two Super Bowl Rings
September 1st, 2012The plot got a lot thicker at running back this afternoon as the Bucs signed running back D.J. Ware, who was cut from the New York Giants yesterday.
Ware was with the Giants since 2007, in a backup role. He played in every game last season and is also known for his special teams play.
Clearly Mike Sullivan gave the green light to jump all over Ware, 27, who likely has that Schiano-Coughlin work ethic down pat.
Of course, he might not stick, but Joe would be very pleased to have a veteran back around LeGarrette Blount, Doug Martin and Michael Smith, if Smith hangs on.

Seahawks cut winslow hahahahah

We better not drop Michael Smith..

Solid addition to the RB corp. As someone mentioned earlier, saw Winslow was cut by the Seahawks. Obviously they missed Winslow’s statement when he was traded by the Bucs that “you don’t get rid of your best player”.

Blount gonna get traded
September 1st, 2012 at 6:30 pm
Did they have to cut anyone to make room for this guy and if so, who?
McDonald the seventh cornerback. –Joe

Could be blount gets traded for dl players
September 1st, 2012 at 6:39 pm
Blount isn’t going anywhere. Use your brains, guys. This guy is not nearly as good and if Martin goes down we do not want to rely on him or
Mike Smith.
Yesterday I predicted that CBs would be cut to make room and that’s what’s happening.
One more thing…can people PLEASE stop suggesting WRs???? Of all the positions, that’s where we need the least help!

@ Doucher,
“Yesterday I predicted that CBs would be cut to make room and that’s what’s happening.” Really dude? Team has signed 4 guys and cut 1 CB. Please don’t try and make yourself out to be Adam Schefter Jr. If I’m not mistaken, you also predicted there wouldn’t be close to the 25+ player turnover that John Clayton predicted when Schiano took over. Not sure what the numbers at now, but it’s got to be close to that or above already.

Pete… Agreed we are set at wr. Depth at dl is the greatest concern. Trades may have to happen to fill that void. Either way I wish my I was in those meetinfs right now. Quite the stir Schiano is making this year.
September 1st, 2012 at 6:47 pm
Exactly Pete. No matter how many times you tell people, many just don’t seem to understand that your 53 is not your final 53. There’s going to be even more changes.

Did I sat Doucher, I meant Dutcher. My bad. 🙂

Lol, I just hope he’s better than the last Giants RB we had.
September 1st, 2012 at 7:55 pm
Maybe they are experimenting to see if Ware can possibly be a back-up FB/RB without putting Blount in jeopardy
September 1st, 2012 at 7:57 pm
Saw the Bucs signed Adam Weber (cut by Denver) as a practice squad QB. 2nd yr player out of Minn.

It’s doubtful blount gets traded, but it would be foolish to think it couldn’t happen. We’re thin at RG.
September 1st, 2012 at 9:28 pm
DJ Ware is available for a reason. Seems we have bigger holes to fill than a RB. Scratching my head a little on this one.
September 1st, 2012 at 9:42 pm
I just can’t get past the last crappy Georgia running back we had named Lumpkin
September 1st, 2012 at 10:06 pm
anyone know his height/weight? from comments he is grat receiver and pass blocker, but might have trouble putting the ball on the turf.
interesting read from july 30. http://www.bigblueview.com/2012/7/30/3201006/dj-ware-new-york-giants-training-camp-david-wilson-darel-scott-joe-martinek-andre-brown
“Nobody, though, is talking about D.J. Ware. The 27-year-old Ware is already entering his sixth NFL season. He finally got an opportunity last season to play consistently. He caught 27 passes being used primarily as a third-down back, and carried the ball 46 times for 163 yards (3.5 yards per carry).”
and
“There are faster running backs on the roster, like Wilson and Scott. There is a bigger guy like Brown, who is 240 pounds now. There is the local favorite in Martinek. Ware can catch the ball. He can pass protect. He can run it when called upon. The biggest thing he has going for him right now, though, is that he has already shown the coaching staff he can contribute when it counts.”

Still Thinking that former Rutger’s Fullback Joe Martinek is still in the mix to come to Bucs somehow (Practice Squad?). That would make even one more. Blount is in the dreaded “Contract Year”. Value is high, why not get something in a trade for somebody(Blount) that they apparently do not have long term faith in.
September 2nd, 2012 at 12:54 am
Should the Bucs try to get WR Deion Branch? He got cut by New England.
September 2nd, 2012 at 4:02 am
Blount’s not really in a contract year, though. He’s on a one year deal as a result of being an EFRA last offseason. This year, he’ll be eligible for an RFA tag, which would keep him for another year for peanuts. Next year, Blount will have to prove he’s worth a multi-year deal, but realistically the Bucs will slap him with an RFA tag regardless of how he does this year

I roll my eyes every time I read someone say that something is happening and that they called it. How exactly does that add to the conversation?
