Sloppy Start To Practice Angers Greg Schiano

August 13th, 2012

The Bucs ran an 11-on-11 drill early in practice on this muggy morning at One Buc Palace. In a word, the start was sloppy.

There was a fumble. Then a penalty. Then another fumble. Bucs coach Greg Schiano had seen enough. He blew his whistle and then he blew off some steam. Loudly.

In no uncertain words, Schiano scolded the offense and tongue-lashed them for practicing with their heads somewhere other than the practice field.

“Start over,” Schiano hollered just before the snap of the next play. “That’s two fumbles and a holding penalty. Wake up! The urgency is out the window. There is only one way! We are not going to compromise!”

So angered was Schiano that he walked off the practice field and threw a towel. But it wasn’t just the offense’s lack of attention to detail that got under Schiano’s skin. So too did the defense. Not long after lecturing the offense, Schiano yelled at would-be tacklers, “Wrap up!”

The New Schiano Order was on full display. And Joe loved it.

It’s a New Day in Tampa Bay! FINALLY! Lovin’ it!

I like the fact that he is making these players accountable. There will be no quitting this year.

The spirit of Raheem/Olsen still needs to be excorcised out of this team. Experience a little pre-season success and then you think you are in the playoffs. LOL, thats the culture of the Raheem era summed up!

Sounds like the next step will be gassers.

They’re feeling good about their 2 drives against a crappy Dolphins team and think they can skate some. Whoops. Demand excellence – love it.

We have the game on about 6 big screens here in the office, lovin’ it…LGB over the top for the score.

    Love it

I never get tired seeing grown adult men gushing over every little detail of the Little General antics. How many offside penalties were there on Friday? Toe that line!

You’re right, Miguel. I long for the days of Brooks and Lynch. Man, could those guys get around!

Loud rap music in the locker rooms AND the playing field! Players like Winslow yucking it up with whoever, because he knows he doesn’t have to practice! The Bucs getting blown out on the field last year while the camera pans over to 2 players in their own world laughing it up! These incidents came in dozens last year, the team was critically injured before we even knew they were such underachievers or just that bad. I mean, nobody wants the head coach to be hated by his players, I just remember “Stone Face” Ray Perkins was almost over the top with discipline, but Schiano is a different cat, he doesn’t crave the attention like Morris did, he darn sure doesn’t care if players don’t like him, but it’s obvious, they DO like him and they DO like what he’s doing because they feel he’s got a REAL plan for this team, he’s not gonna boldly say to the press after winning a few games that he has the best team in the NFC (yea I said it), he’s clearly not happy with average, and even after winning a preseason game, you’d think his dog died! I think we are going to all be pleasantly surprised by this coach, no more trying to juke us out with words that fly out of the mouth like a machine gun in hopes that we didn’t catch the stupidity that was covered up with more mumbo jumbo. Word to the wise….If you don’t like putting toes on the line……then try putting them on the unemployment line and see how much you dislike him then!

I can’t remember a coach leaving practice in disgust, even temporarily. As a player, it must be scary to see this. As a Team, it must feel like you’re letting your Team down.

“Toes on the line”, doesn’t seem so bad now does it? WinSLOW would have never made this team with his poor attitude.

Some “fans” on tampabay.com are critcizing Schianos approach and saying it wont work in the NFL. What a bunch of f****** losers!!

  14. Chris FWC Says:

@Miguel…that’s growing pains. And it was the 1st of 4 preseason games. There will be more bone headedness. He’s trying to establish something. Right and Wrong and no in between.

Bucs missed 12 tackles last game. I bet that number drops to 6-9 next game. Bucs will play big and powerful and not have time to dink and dunk and finesse things. Smash mouth N/S running with the ability to drop bombs.

    Eat together
    Dress together
    Practice together
    Stretch together
    Play together
    Win/Lose together

I’m loving what I’m seeing not just hearing. Schiano is a coach that doesn’t put up with BS; he’s all football and if his players aren’t they won’t be here long.

I for one can hardly wait to see the players who come out of this camp September 9. They will be ready to play some football. Have you noticed, even though camp is tuff and exacting whens the last time you have heard another K2? Old saying,”when the going gets tuff, the tuff gets going”! Besides I’ve heard , the players like coach. Go Bucs!
