Schaino Names His Leaders
August 6th, 2012No dancing around the leadership question for the leader of the New Schiano Order.
Asked on Sirius XM NFL Radio today, “Who has emerged as leaders?” Schiano didn’t hesitate.
Schiano first named Davin Joseph citing “he works so hard.” Vincent Jackson got a nod for being “incredible,” for his work ethic and mentoring, and Dallas Clark for being a “consummate pro.”
“He brings a professionalism and a maturity to our team,” said Schiano of Clark, struggling for the right words “to describe his impact.”
Interestingly, Schiano said “Josh Freeman is slowly becoming that guy.” And among defensive players, Schiano only mentioned Barber as a leader.
So there’s what’s in Schiano’s head when it comes to leadership.

hmmmmm, there were no Dominik drafted team captains in that list

And if someone feels dejected because they should have been named captain, the only way to prove it is to earn it. If not being named captain makes you angry and undermining, you weren’t worthy in the first place. Go Schiano

All of them are vets. Dom’s drafted guys are still practically toddlers in the game. Even freeman is only entering 4th year

Smart to name the vets. That’s who our young guys should be looking up to.

I’m just glad he didn’t mention Freeman as a bona fide leader. He’s still way too young and after what we saw with Winslow pushing him around last season, it seems like he may have a ways to go. Great play on the field should remedy that though.

Dom does deserve some of the blame here, seeing as he jettisoned the team’s leaders before last season to disastrous results. At least they went out and tried to remedy that this year by picking up a few leaders.

aj, as i’ve been stating recently, which veteran jettisoned by dominick has gone on to do much with their next team? warrick dunn is the only one i would agree with. even antonio bryant, who wasn’t resigned has bombed and was recently cut by the seahawks. john lynch, jettisoned by allen, had a much better post-bucs career than anyone else i can think of jettisoned by dominick.
there was no idea that there was going to be a collapse like happened. we have no idea what happened behind closed doors. perhaps raheem morris said that he and the coaches could be the leaders.

“warrick dunn is the only one i would agree with.”
Warrick Dunn went to Atlanta in 2002, long before Dominick was GM. You’re probably thinking of Cadillac Williams. However, I agree with you’re overall point..

oops, thanks fritzy…lol, i was
i was thinking of some past vets released that did well, like lynch. i cannot think of any that dominick released compared to previous eras that performed well elsewher.
thanks!

Lurker, you don’t have to be a pro bowler to be a leader. Caddy and Ruud were the leaders of the team, they were the guys the younger players looked to. The team last year had no heart, no leadership on the field.

aj, hindsight being 20/20 and all that…
you need players on the team. they believed team captains from college would make good leaders, which makes sense. they also had barber, winslow, and other vets. how would they know who would emerge as a leader or not. even if the experiment failed, noone would guess the season would collapse as it did. not even thomas, i daresay.
also, raheem might have believed that he could provide leadership. we do not know what happened behind closed doors. using just team captains didn’t work so they are trying something new now. i do not blame an organization for having the conviction of their beliefs and then learning from the experience.
