Sapp Talks Belicheat Erection

August 22nd, 2012

With Bill Belicheat in town sharing a couple of practices with the Bucs, the timing of Warren Sapp’s latest book-tour gem is just too wonderful.

Speaking on ESPN Radio yesterday, per ProFootballTalk.com, Sapp told the story of the Browns’ interest in drafting him back in 1995 with a new twist.

Sapp claimed then Browns coach Belicheat told Sapp, “‘I wanna draft you so bad that I have an erection right now.’”

Sapp claims former Browns front office man Mike Lombardi quashed the potential pick on concerns about Sapp’s background, as Joe transcribed yesterday from Sapp’s interview with Howard Stern.

Thank goodness for Lombardi. He killed what would have been the most damaging boner in Bucs history.

Just a hunch, but Joe suspects the local media won’t be asking Belicheat to elaborate on how he might have wooed Sapp back in the day.

I suspect that Bill didn’t have the same feeling about Baby-Gerald. Who our idiotic GM and exiled coach tried to sell to us as the next Warren Sapp seconds after drafting him and before he ever put on a practice jersey.

Sapp, Beckles and many others think Baby-Gerald has underwhelmed even when not injuring himself through pop warner fundamentals.

    Joe,

Please refer to “Bill Belichick” as a “Boss”, or something respectable.

It is getting lame to hate on one of the greatest coaches of the era, all the while you call Dom a “Rock Star”.

It is what it is, Belichick is a champion, legend, and the best coach in football.

Dom is merely a “glorified errand boy” (thanks for that Thomas2.2), and it is true.

Dom has ZERO pro bowlers, and he pays the wrong dudes all the time.

With all of that, I feel Dom had a great offseason and draft, but he is not a “Rock Star”…

    Belichick= Boss/Modern Day Hero

Dom= subpar, karaoke bar enthusiast, “leaves work early”, signs the wrong FA’s.

  3. OAR Says:

Wow! Interesting, what would it have been in Tampa Bay without Sapp? Or New England without Bilicheck or Baltimore without the Ravens? Sapp gets drafted by Cleveland and they might never have fired Bilicheck and/or moved. Sapp was definately one of those type of impact players that would have made them better!
    Oh well, shoulda, coulda, woulda…didn’t!

  4. Vic Says:

Thomas and SteveK, why do you guys come back if you’re so miserable all the time?

Sapp is an idiot. I’d be curious to know if Sapp’s take on Belichick’s weiner is in his book. I suspect not since this is the first we’ve heard of it. I call BS.

  5. SteveK Says:

    Vic,

I am not too miserable lol, I just don’t get the hate for Belichick and the love for Dom.

Just like Tuna says, “I aint buying that”.

  6. OAR Says:

    SteveK
    Bruce Sprinsteen = Boss
Military personel = modern day hero
Bilicheck = Great SB winning headcoach and cheater

BTW I dont think Dom is great by any means, but relax and give his drafts a chance. This year is thier first real coaching and developing off-season. Took Brooks , Sapp 3 years, Barber and Lynch 5 years to make pro-bowl. I’m sure ole John McKay didnt catch as much flak!

  7. SteveK Says:

    @ Vic,

Sapp may be an “idiot” when it comes to communicating clearly/positively with the fan base. However, he took that same menacing attitude out there on the field and played his arse off. He is the best under tackled to ever suit up, fact.

GMC is a very awesome dude, and communicates very well. Also, it has been noted that GMC lacks a mean streak.

    Could it be possivble,

Sapp: Mean on and off field

GMC: Sweetheart on and off the field.

    2012 will be the test.

  8. SteveK Says:

    @ OAR,

Great points, we were fortunate to have a HOF Head Coach to develop the HOF players like: Brooks, Lynch, Sapp, Barber…

    Tony Dungy was the glue.

I hope Schiano can find his niche early.

This is Joe’s blog and he can use whatever nicknames he prefers. I personally enjoy the consistency he employs when naming people instead of coming up with a new one every other post. It lends a feel of stability to his posts which is what a good journalist does.

Anyway, getting sick of all the whiny bitches among Bucs fans. If you don’t like certain nicknames then get your own blog and spend years building your readership. It’s easy to criticize others but it’s hard to build your own.

And no, I’m not a Joe homer by any stretch of the imagination.

  10. Bobby Says:

All you have to do is mention ‘erection’ and Thomas is the first one to post…..hmmmmm….curious.

  11. OAR Says:

    FlyBoy
    Ditto!

    Bobby
    Too funny!

  12. SteveK Says:

    @FLBoyinDallas,

    Touche, consistency is nice.

I am just curious as to how the “value” of the nick name is placed?

    Superbowls = Negativity in nickname

    17-31= Kinight thee “Rock Star”

I am just trying to be real about everything.

Belichick is the best in the business, and Sapp was the greatest Under Tackle to ever play.

  13. Joe Says:

    SteveK:

It is getting lame to hate on one of the greatest coaches of the era, all the while you call Dom a “Rock Star”.

Perhaps you should e-mail Belicheat and scold him for breaking NFL rules?

  14. robert Says:

bilicheat & brady together are a gret combo, very good…..seperate them and brady is a lil justin bieber lookin pansy who get’s beat up in the locker room and bilicheat is a know it all, condescending cheater with no superbowls and jobless.

  15. FLBoyInDallas Says:

    @SteveK

It still baffles me why long-time readers of Joe’s blog still misinterpret the “Rock Star” nickname. You guys who criticize it always seem to think it’s based on Dominik’s performance or the Bucs’ record. It isn’t. It was clear from the beginning that it was based on how the media were treating Dominik for a short time when his drafts and his draft-day trading acumen were getting positive reviews. He was getting lots of media appearances on the likes of NFL Network and PFT Live, etc. That’s where the nickname came from.

You do understand that a rock star is someone who is famous, right? Not someone who does their job well? Hopefully more fans will make the connection instead of continuing to misunderstand the name. I can’t believe I actually had to explain this.

  16. SteveK Says:

    @ Dallas,

Thanks for the dictionary meaning of Rock Star. Much appreciated.

Well I am all for changing Bill Belichick’s nick name to: “Belichamp” bc all he does is win, win, win.

  17. OAR Says:

    FlBoy
After reading some of these guys posts, I’m not surprised at all you had to explain it. Although, you might even need a balckboard and color chalk for some of them.

  18. SteveK Says:

    OAR,

What is wrong with an explanation? It was nice to be informed that the nick name was given for “Camera bulbs flashing”, and “being popular”.

Dom has swag, but does he have game?

  19. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Bill Belichick is the coaching equivalent of Mark McGwire or Sammy Sosa. Yes he’s had a great career, but he’s a convicted cheater and that asterisk will always be next to his name. The nickname Belicheat is appropriate.

  20. OAR Says:

    SteveK
Re-read my post. I was not surprised he had to explain it, which is good for some. I did not intend to include you in the blackboard/chalk comment. Those guys know who Im talking about..maybe?

  21. bucyea Says:

What happened to the “Bust in waiting” nickname given to our QB. This site, unfortunately, represents the low class, hillbilly nature, of a portion of its fanbase. JBF is the TMZ of football, the First Take of Buc football…it is what it is.

@bucyea – Pay attention. The bust-in-wating tag was given to Freeman long before he was a Buccaneer, and Joe abandoned the nickname before the 2009 season began. Also, if JoeBucsFan was TMZ, then JoeBucsFan would run with rumors, unnamed sources, publish the countless interesting photos of players — and a former head coach — that are passed on to Joe by fans, and Joe would pay a photographer to catch players at Blue Martini and other Tampa haunts. No, Joe is not TMZ, and Joe hardly thinks this site represents hillbilly types. If you don’t like it, you’re welcome to leave. –Joe

  22. Mike J Says:

Couldn’t bring myself to read that un either.

  23. OAR Says:

“represents the low class, hillbilly nature, of a portion of its fanbase.”
That’s lower than quail $h!t in a wagon rut and nuttier than a Squirrel turd!

  24. Thomas 2.2 Says:

FlBoy: you can’t be a “rock star” without one hit. Your argument would hold merit if he stopped using that idiotic term 2 years ago, he didn’t.

BTW: rock star connotes more than just fame, it connotes popularity almost always due to achievement – like Obama is a rock star etc.

It is patently obvious that Joe is strangely obsessed with 17-31 Dom, and clearly nobody thinks he is a rock star today just look at his embarrassing record.

  25. FLBoyInDallas Says:

2.2…you still don’t get it. I think Joe uses the term in a tongue-in-cheek fashion. He’s not saying that Dominik is a rock star. He’s having fun with the term because of all the attention Dominik received early on. If anyone is the antithesis of a rock star it’s Dominik with his clean-cut buttoned-up demeanor. It’s funny thinking of a guy like that as a rock star. That’s the point.

Being in the legal profession has obviously robbed you of any creativity you might’ve once had and caused you to see everything in black & white. Take a step back for a change and get off Joe’s/Dominik’s/McCoy’s case.

  26. OAR Says:

And please don’t use Obama and achievement in the same sentence! They have nothing to do with one another!

  27. Thomas 2.2 Says:

FlBoy: I have come to like your takes. I agree with you about Dom being the last human alive who fits the rock star label both on appearance and record.

But Joe has NEVER admitted that this nickname is TIC – he defends it as being fitting. If Joe would acknowledge that this concept is so absurd as to be funny – I would accept it.

  28. JonBuc Says:

Joe is strangely obsessed with Dom? Come on TomTom Tue.Tue……you just posted about checking Dom out in his high school swimming speedo or something. I must agree that Joe is TIC when he mentions Dom as a “Rock Star”. The fact that it ruffles your skirt so much is just an added bonus no doubt.

  29. Bobby Says:

If I knew it was going to annoy so many people and I was Joe I would use it a lot more often! It’s worth it just to see how it pisses Thomas off. Dom truly is a Rock Star. This years draft alone proves it. He arguably came away with three first round picks in David, Martin & Barron. And the crowd begins to chant..’Dom! Dom! Dom!” All hail the Rock Star!

  30. thegregwitul Says:

FLBoyInDallas; thank you. I’ve been posting the same thing about the nickname around the time of the draft. The only reason Dom still has the Rock Star nickname is due to the fact that it sent Thomas and others over the edge when it was originally posted…you know, back when Dom was on radio row during the Super Bowl or before last seasons draft. The name stuck when it generated such a ridiculous reaction and I laugh everytime someone rants and raves about ‘No Probowl’ Dom or brings up the Michael Clayton or Mike Nugent contracts.

If you want something to go away, ignore it and eventually it will. It’s too late now, however, because even if Dom craps the bed and gets canned, you better believe Joe will open the story with a Rock Star reference, and that’s one reason why I love the site and keep coming back (I’m also a fan of the opening each Peter King post receives, funny stuff).

  31. Vic Says:

Agree, the gregwitful. Joe probably enjoys twisting the panties of the Dom haters.

  32. Hawaiian Buc Says:

It’s just a nickname guys. Take your meds.
