Polian Thinks Bucs’ Front Four Leads Team
August 6th, 2012Longtime Colts GM/architect Bill Polian is an incredibly stout, detailed and candid analyst on SiriusXM NFL Radio. Joe can’t express how insightful this guy is. He’s just made for radio.
Polian was out at today at One Buc Palace, as NFL Radio made its training camp stop in Tampa. Polian watched practice and spent about 20 minutes with rockstar general manager Mark Dominik on the sidelines. Interestingly, Polian told his radio audience this afternoon that the Bucs’ defense stood out most to him.
“I saw a lot of really aggressive fronts by the front seven,” Polian said. “I was surprised by how well they handled things and how well they flowed. I think the front-4 is the strongest part of this football team.”
Joe’s not sure if that’s scary or not.
It’s great that a trained eye like Polian thinks the Bucs’ defensive line has what it takes — yes, Michael Bennett was back practicing today — but the offense is most likely to carry the Bucs and needs to be a top-10 unit in the NFL for the Bucs to have a winning season.
Regardless, Joe will take it. If Gerald McCoy, Adrian Clayborn, Roy Miller and Michael Bennett are going to carry the Bucs, Joe’s all for it.

I would like to see someone question Polian’s cred with that statement… That would be great to see if they can be the strength

I’m with you Joe! Just imagine if we had Bowers to throw into that Front Four Rotation.
This morning Schiano was alluding to what could be a lack of depth behind Clayborn, McCoy, Miller & Bennett, but was very high on those four. Even with that, if we can keep most of these guys healthy all season, it should add at least 2 or 3 more wins in 2012.

Schiano admits lack of depth on d-line.Trading Price will really hurt when McCoy or Millar goes down. We’ll be. Grabbing any decent DT that get’s cut around the league

I know it may be a pipe dream but if what he says is true and our D-line steps up and stays healthy.. we could be looking at a top 15 offense and defense, have we ever had that before?

Back in the day we were usually a top 5 defense with the offense ranked somewhere in the 20’s I believe.

we may just get lucky!!!!
luck happens when hard work & preparation come together. Someone called me lucky once, to which a co-worker said “yeah, the harder he works the luckier he gets”
true dat

I’d love for him to give his more than qualified assessment of this front four to IAN BECKLES, who claims to know everything about the game because after all, he played it, I mean he was the best AVERAGE linemen we had at the time, and is so jealous of today’s players, especially GMC, who I hope will be unblockable this year, Ian wants him to fail so bad so he can try and say he told everyone so! Him and Ron Diaz have become some of the Bucs biggest bashers around, rarely having anything good to say about the team, and don’t go on their show talking big about the Bucs because they will find a negative angle everytime!! Bill Polian KNOWS FOOTBALL, Ian Beckles knows MEATballs!

Hope he wasn’t wearing the clothes in the stories photo….

Unfortunately the defensive line lead the team last year. lead them straight to the cellar.

Cutting Price has nothing to do with keeping him for depth. If he can’t play then he does us no good. So far he is struggling at Chicago. I hope he recovers because I like Brian but it’s an uphill battle.

I think Poilan is trying to be nice, or is not as familiar with Tampa, as he pretends to be.

Most defensive lineman don’t develop into quality players until a few years into their career. It only becomes more evident when each member of the line is going through the same growing pains; bicep pains in some cases.
Remember the last Bucs team to be led by our front 4? That’s how you win football games.

@Chris, How do you say that when he went by what he seen in person TODAY?
