Gibson, Gilberry Are The Backup Defensive Tackles
August 31st, 2012After the dust settled on defensive tackles Brian Price and Amobi Okoye, they ended up as teammates in Chicago. So now the Bucs will backup Gerald McCoy and Roy Miller with Wallace Gilberry, a defensive end with a lot of experience in Kansas City rushing inside, and Gary Gibson, Greg Schiano’s handpicked Rutgers man.
Gibson was rather invisible in preseason with an unknown ailment, but he, like Gilberry, has solid NFL seasons under his belt. Schiano said Gilberry’s versatility was a plus for him a few weeks ago.
This is hardly great depth at the position, so Joe suspects defensive tackle will be a priority area for the Bucs in the second draft, aka rockstar general manager Mark Dominik plucking guys off the still-hot waiver wire this weekend.

Gilbert’s isn’t bad. Had an ok amount of sacks with KC but Gibson…really hoping we find someone else.

Gilberry has a great motor and definetely has some pass rushing ability. Gibson on the other hand is better at stopping the run. Both guys are vets and have proved themself somewhat in the NFL, both just need to take the next step..

If you are going to get rid of price and okoye because they are spending too much time rehabbing, what the hell is Gibson still doing on the roster. Did that sacred cow see a snap in the first three preseason games. I’d rather have kept either of the other two and preferably both. This cut down is really perplexing…

Isn’t Gilberry like 265-70lbs? At DT? They’ve got to be looking at bringing someone else in. Man they are skating on thin ice with that D-line.

God, we are soooo thin on the defensive line. Going to be a major problem if any of our starters miss significant time. It’s bad enough on paper right now that Dom has to seriously consider trading a pick for someone.

Kept too many CBs as well…so expect a couple to be dropped when we sign other players.

Josh Johnson may be the only QB in the entire NFL with a worse record than Orlovsky. They both suck. We need better. Please don’t make Josh Johnson into anything beyond sorry. He was 4th string on the 49ers. Need I say more?

We only have 52 players on the roster right now, so you know for 100% sure that moves are coming, probably before most of us wake up in the morning. Like Pete said, we are not keeping 7 CB’s. A lot is going to happen from now until September 9.

I think Josh Johnson is better than DAN-O, sign him in case free goes down.

At a couple spots, the Bucs’ brass seems to have made a conscious, deliberate choice to value league & team experience over talent/potential. The thinking may be that you don’t want a team that is simply too young.

Orlovsky is twice the QB that JJ is. JJ will have a tough time finding a job this year unless someone gets hit with an injury. He’s just not very good.

Gibson is garbage, another mystery “what are you doing in the NFL” type of guy. No talent, just kind of slip through the cracks. He was probably already cut but nobody knows about it. Kind of like a Milton from Office Space.

Bob, Josh Johnson was released or waived.
