Brian Price Traded To Bears

July 26th, 2012

The New Schiano Order has delivered another hammer of a personnel move.

Brian Price has been traded to the Bears. There’s no word yet on the compensation coming to Tampa Bay, other than that the deal is pending a physical and the Bucs would get an undisclosed 2013 draft pick.

This is a stunner first and foremost because it’s hard to imagine what rockstar general manager Mark Dominik could have scored in return for Price and his many injury issues. But these are the same Bears that Dominik fleeced for a second round pick during the 2009 midseason trade of the late Gaines Adams.

But it’s also quite a wake-up call to every Buccaneer.

Maybe Price wasn’t fit? Maybe the Price-Barron altercation was more to Schiano’s dislike than he let on?

Somewhere Roy Miller is cracking open a cold one.

about time!!!!! no bs, leave the drama @ home.

  2. NJBucsFan Says:

    Thinnest d-line in the league.

  3. Colorado Buc Says:

Our D-Line is porous and injury prone, of course I’m an Okoye fan, wanted him in the draft, but damn we need to add depth. I hope we got a decent pic for him…damn.

  4. TheRealVince Says:

What kind of depth do we have @ DT? Anybody that could actually be decent in the middle or are we just gonna have to watch this team get gashed up the gut again. Where’s my Pepto?

  5. Matthew Says:

Yet ANOTHER Mark Dominik draft blunder – this guy has to be on the hot seat !!

  6. Colorado Buc Says:

We can assume that maybe Price hit Barron harder than we thought. A rift between the two could have prompted the trade. Now Barron can sit wherever he wants I guess.

  7. robert Says:

it’s called accountability. neither of these guys could be counted on whether it was injuries or personal. I wish Price the best, but if you can’t depend on someone to put their best foot forward, then you need to find someone who will. rather have someone with 90% ability and play @ 110% than a more talented guy who cant be counted on and is a disruption/is not buying in….

  8. beansnap Says:

Okoye is on PUP list isnt he? We have Miller. I hope they know what they are doing, this move on the surface looks odd. All those missed OTA’s that were excused for his tragedy, he probably wasn’t in shape, the altercation with Barron, his injuries. It doesn’t make sense. There has to be a lot more to this story, and we will probably never get the full story.

  9. NJBucsFan Says:

I heard the Bucs threw in the chair….Would liked more than a late round pick. Plus Briscoe is gone. Saw this coming but would of been nice to make sure we survive the preseason without injuries….

  10. Jarret Says:

Price seemed like a high class guy but the injuries were just too much. Doesnt look good one dominik considering he was a second round pick. If we get a 4th rounder it’d be great but im guessing its more like a 6th rounder.

  11. Brad Says:

Totally disagree with this move. Terrible PR move. Weakens an already thin D line. Makes Barron think his shi! Don’t stink and all the other rookies are running things.

  12. BigBear Says:

Maybe Price really did have more issues than we knew. Who knows how he was in the locker room now with the tragedy in his family. This might be good for both sides in that the Buccaneers get away from a somewhat troublesome player with injuries and the Bears get a prospect and Price can have a fresh start.

  13. Colorado Buc Says:

Joe, I saw this on PFT before I came her eot chat about it. I hope you broke it before Florio! What is the end game here, anyone on the market that would make a good addition, trade for someone, depth is a real problem…

  14. ben Says:

    released briscoe also

  15. TheRealVince Says:

Another draft failure for Dom? Sure doesn’t look good.

  16. Jordon Says:

Wow…wasn’t expecting that! Hopefully Okoye will be able to slide right into the starting role next to McCoy.

  17. J-VILLBUCS Says:

What a waste of a high 2nd round pick. Now that he’s had the injuries, will probably only get a 7th round pick for him.

  18. robert Says:

they probably gave these guys one last chance…..come in the door, look em in the eye, see where their heads at…….didn’t like what they saw. make the call!

  19. Adam L. Says:

Another Boy Band GM Bust. 2nd rounder too. Ill put 5 on Benn being the next to flame out.

  20. bucNcrazy Says:

    A seventh rd pick. Ouch

  21. Joe Says:

    Matthew:

Yet ANOTHER Mark Dominik draft blunder – this guy has to be on the hot seat !!

This is complete and total absolute BS.

Matthew, please document one NFL scout or one NFL general manager who predicted Brian Price to sustain an injury which would render most men unable to walk much less play football.

Anyone who saw Price in training camp his rookie year — Joe knows many did — saw what a total beast this guy was until he got injured. To blame Price’s demise on anyone is simply outrageous.

  22. Matthew Says:

People are ripping Dom and that’s fine the pick didn’t work. I’m at least glad we have a leader who’s willing to admit he’s wrong and try to rectify it. If he doesn’t fit our system or new philosophy get rid of him now instead of getting nothing. Too many GMs hold on to “their guys” way after they should have gone in another direction. Dom isn’t immune to criticism but I’m glad he’s got the balls to cut bait & go a better direction.

  23. Thomas 2.2 Says:

    Joe you are clueless.

Steve White and I both said after the draft that picking Gerald and Price back to back was idiotic – bc they are the same player – both 3 techniques.

My belief is that Schiano identified this, and if you include the injury and other difficulties, felt that Price was more expendable than Gerald.

Frankly, I was hoping for Gerald but this shows me Schiano knows what he is doing.

    Great start for Greg.

  24. Thomas 2.2 Says:

    Matthew:

You are correct that Schiano had no problem admitting that Dom was wrong for drafting McCoy and price back to back.

    This another indictment of DomDom.

    LMAO

  25. Dew Says:

Lets also not forget Rah sent Brian home during a game last year for losing his temper and getting a flag. Maybe there are many other anger issues we haven’t heard about. Was hoping for a big year from Brian. Hope it’s not in Chicago.

  26. AtlBucsFan Says:

Joe – I guess Dom has to be a medical doctor as well. Clearly these naysayers would have seen Price’s health issues before he was drafted! LOL at some of these comments.

I agree though that something else must have been going on. If Price was in such good shape as claimed by his agent then he must has had some other physical or mental issues that pushed Schiano and Dom to move him. I wish him the best. I suspect we might regret this move.

  27. Bane Says:

    Whoooooo!!! Nice moves Dominik
Let’s take a look at that 2010 draft shall we?

    1. Gerald McCoy — $63 million dollars and we have got 3 sacks for it
    2. Brian Price — gone
    2. Arrelious Benn — 4 career Tds
    3. Myron Lewis — hahaha
    4. Mike Williams — solid #2 WR
    5. Brent Bowden — last 3 weeks
    6. Erik Lorig — drafted as DE then switched to TE then FB
    7. Cody Grimm — two bad legs, would not make any other teams
    7. Dakota Watson — decent player but constantly injured

That was a solid draft mr. Dominik
    Keep up the good work.

  28. ben Says:

If his agent said he was in great shape it was cause he probably already new they were shopping him.

  29. ben Says:

LMAO Brent Bowden, i forgot all about him

  30. AtlBucsFan Says:

    Good point Ben

  31. Thomas 2.2 Says:

DomDom could draft John Brantley number 1 overall and Joe would praise it.

DomDom could sign Hands of Stone Clayton to a 25 million dollar contract and Joe would defend it. Wait, that already happened! Lol

  32. Joe Says:

    Thomas:

DomDom could draft John Brantley number 1 overall and Joe would praise it.

    Um, nope. LOL

Gee, seems some don’t remember when Joe took Dominik to task for the Great Lumpkin fiasco.

  33. Joe Says:

    ben:

LMAO Brent Bowden, i forgot all about him

    Mike Nugent.

  34. Brad Says:

Dominik is a disaster. Has the dude drafted anyone that’s good yet? Bad coaching hires, bad the releasing of veteran players, bad contract extensions. Let’s hope the next move Schiano makes is to replace Dominik. This guy is a freakin joke.

  35. Joe Says:

    Thomas:

You are correct that Schiano had no problem admitting that Dom was wrong for drafting McCoy and price back to back.

Feel free to provide evidence that Brian Price was going to have a freak injury in training camp of his rookie year. If you can, trust Joe, no matter your line of work you are in, if you predicted Brian Price to have an injury that would render him virtually unable to play, you can make a killing in Vegas.

Joe challenges anyone –ANYONE — to provide documentation prior to July 2010 that Price was going to have his leg muscles torn away from his pelvic bone requiring bolts to be inserted into his bones.

Anyone that saw Price become a one-man wrecking crew at training camp two years ago knows what total BS it is to somehow pin Price’s demise on anyone much less Dominik.

  36. Kennedy Says:

Thomas, it’s really inaccurate to try and tell people that Joe doesn’t hold Dominik accountable. Just yesterday there was a story here about Joe saying Dominik didn’t have the job security Roy Cummings says he does. We’ve also read over and over here about Quincy Black. WHy do u act the way you do?

  37. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

The lesson here is this, don’t beat up our first round draft pick and your teammate.
Now, Price’s well fed ass will get a seat after all, on a cold soldier field sideline.

  38. Hawaiian Buc Says:

This move is a shocker to me. I was looking forward to seeing Price play this year.

  39. Joe Says:

    Thanks Kennedy.

Sure, Joe likes Mark Dominik but that doesn’t mean Joe believes the man his God.

From Day 1 Joe wrote about what a bad move it was to let Cadillac Williams walk and sign the Great Lumpkin.

But of course, Joe is a Dominik apologist. :-/

  40. Drew Says:

Consider the possibility they saw something better in one or two of the other DT’s.

  41. passenger27 Says:

People grow up! If u do not agree with the opinion of Joe then go to another website plenty others out there…. Price had potential same as every other player in the draft its a crap shoot nobody can predict injuries and in his case off field incidents either… agreed McCoy and Price back to back was an odd draft decision but in hindsight we clearly needed to double up on Dline! What’s was the alternative Eric Berry! He has his own injury issues… B. Price by all appearances simply ran out of strikes best of luck in Chicago young man we appreciate your service

  42. 941-Bucs Says:

I’m a bit shocked they also released Devin Holland. He looked like a special teams Ace … Super fast and a hard hitter!

  43. Macabee Says:

I’m not upset, rather I’m shocked and bewildered – only because I don’t know where we’re going. So, I’m going to be quiet and wait for further instructions.

  44. NJBucsFan Says:

@ Drew. We only have another one or two DT’s left.

  45. Ladyz Says:

I only hope Barron didn’t demand Price leaving for him to sign.

  46. Patrick Says:

I’m really pissed right now, but the guy has had a tragic personal life, so I don’t think I should blast him.

Though, it’s evident the pick was a waste now!

And we didn’t even get anything in return! Not anything that’ll help us this year at least!

Bet the 2013 pick is not even a good one.

  47. Eric Says:

Never really felt he could come back from that injury. Dang shame for him. Kid was a warrior.

  48. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Let the Butch Davis as Bucs new GM thread begin.

  49. Drew Says:

Amobi Okoye was re-activated today and there were also a couple of offseason DT moves.

  50. Buc Me in the Goat Azz Says:

“Somewhere Roy Miller is cracking open a cold one.”

That was a great line Joe!

  51. Patrick Says:

I don’t understand the move at all. We didn’t even get anything in return really, and the undisclosed pick for 2013 probably is a crappy one. We already have limited depth at the position.

And with the uncertainty always surrounding McCoy, it’s even more scary. It’s just him and Okoye really, all the other DT’s are garbage. No wait a minute……we need to see McCoy take the field on a consistent basis before we even know how good he is. lmao.

  52. Miguel Grande Says:

The Bucs need to dump some salaries, they are only $20,000,000.00 under the cap and will need to lighten up at least another $10,000,000.00 by September. Besides the Buc’s never want to lose the “youngest team in the NFL excuse.” Price and Briscoe were getting too old.

I think the Bear’s GM should be on the hot seat for signing the Buc’s blunders. Dominik will won’t be on thin ice as long as he follows Glazer’s orders.

  53. Thomas 2.2 Says:

    Joe,

Your assumption is that Price was traded away due to injury, we don’t know if that is the case.

In fact, I am sure that the trade will require a passed physical. Didn’t Price play 15 or 16 games last year? How many did baby Gerald play?

The reason that Price is expendable is because he and Gerald play the same position and apparently there is some instability and risk with Price – not to mention a contract that Chicago could handle.
I doubt that anyone will take McCoy’s contract at this point so he is probably untradable until the end of his deal.

  54. ELioT Says:

This is bullsh*t! This kid was our best DT last year even playing at 65-75%! He played his ass off and his heart out and he shouldnt have even been on the field. We trade him to the Bears? I hope he tears it up in Chicago!

The Bucs have got the worst freaking luck with this DLine. Very likely could only have one decent player (Clayborn) out of 2010/11’s 1st and 2nd round picks depending on wether McCoy can do anything and if well ever see Bowers again. What a freaking waste!

Opposing teams are going to run it all over this Buccaneer defense!

I do NOT like this F**king move!!!!

  55. Lion Says:

WTF?? I don’t understand this trade one bit. They must be really impressed with Gibson and Okoye.

  56. Eric Says:

His big toe was more than 3/4 of an inch off the line.

  57. Lion Says:

Better at least be a 4th rounder.

  58. ryan Says:

Before we overract to the lack of depth……THE SEASON HASNT STARTED YET! Players get cut a lot around this team. We can easily pick up a quality dt to help add depth. I have no problem with this move seeing how the bucs use late round picks very well.(sometimes.)

  59. Jonny 3.3 Says:

@ELioT, Price was among the worst DTs of the league last season. If he was our best DT, then lord save the Bucs.

  60. BigMacAttack Says:

    Eric Says:

    ——————————

    Now that’s funny!

I said a while ago (toot toot) that I thought Price as done. Like Joe said about the surgery, how could anyone play after that. I just saw him on the news and he looks fat and out of shape. The surprise to me is that the Bears would trade anything for him. I’m guessing it was a 5’th rounder. I can’t help but wonder if this may also be partially from the fight with Barron. Maybe Price was being a total prick and not setting a good example for a 1’st round rookie. I like this move but like you guys have said “we need depth”. Maybe Dom has his eye on someone and when we went to 1 Buc a while back, Okam was working that Bike hard while everyone else was off. I don’t know if Okam is still here, but if they get about 30 or 40 pounds off Okam, he might be a Nose Stuffer.

  61. drbinshore Says:

One of the main knocks on Brian Price coming out of college was that his frame was already “maxed out”……coming off of this injury he should probably play under 300lbs from now on- we are no longer the “Tampa 2” anymore, but more of a standard 4-3.

Most teams that run a standard 4-3 usually have bigger DT’s than a “tampa 2″ system would require, i.e the Giants, Vikings (Williams wall), Detriot, ect.
Brian Price is tailor made for the old front…..6’0 and 300lbs and would probably be ok at 3 technique in this front but that is McCoy’s spot @ 6’4” and 300lbs (much like Kevin Williams)……..Price is too small to play the nose in this system.

Roy Miller (3rd round pick) is durable, extremely coachable, and has already proven that he can play heavier up to 330lbs (Jim Bates 2 gap) his rookie year.
Gary Gibson will help make Miller into a better player…..just watch

  62. voice of reason Says:

funny that we all jump on dom for drafting him when he trades him. if price stinks, then this is a great move. see the PR report on how other NFC teams drafts graded out over the last few years? no better than the bucs. it’s a crap shoot and there are very few real stars.

  63. thomas two point two Says:

Chicago blog reporting 7th rounder for price.

Isn’t this the second time in a matter of weeks that Dom received a 7th rounder for a player he used a 2nd round pick to acquire?

    Winslow.

What a dunderhead? Apparently DomDom is confused – it’s BUY low and sell high.

  64. Eric Says:

I’ll say this much, Greg doesn’t give a damn where anyone was drafted or who drafted him, he’s making his team.

Good for him, refreshing to see after Rah was allowed as much authority as the laundry guy.

  65. thomas two point two Says:

    drbinshore gets it.

Nice to have another commenter who understands the nuances of the game. There aren’t too many around.

  66. Rush89 Says:

I’m starting to feel like buc’s fans, other than a few I know, will never be happy with anything this team does. We’re one day into training camp and it seems 50% of the fan base is already throwing in the towel. I think everyone just needs to calm the hell down, wait til camp is done, roster moves made and the depth chart finished before beginning to bash anyone. Shut up and enjoy the fact football is back. Good lord.

  67. jglazer Says:

I remember watching the Price draft. Player after player was up out of their chair hugging family and friends. The excitement shown by those selected was amazing and fun to watch. When the Price pick came in. I remember him sitting in a chair, big smile, people around him but no movement. No nervous energy. At the time was thinking we picked a guy who is lazy or doesn’t have that type A personality to crush people. That was my initial thought. Don’t know if it was exactly true but might be why a hard nosed coach tossed or agreed to toss him out of town.

  68. aj Says:

Roy Miller is terrible. I don’t get this move, a 7th rounder is almost much the same as cutting the guy. Why not hold him and hope someone else’s starter gets hurt during preseason?

But, anyone who was not at OTAs is gone. I just think the Bucs were waiting for camp to start to make it official. If they dump everyone right after the OTAs, then they have a problem with the union for dumping guys who didn’t show for a voluntary event.

  69. BucFan20 Says:

In an interview I saw( I Think it was on ABC 28 in Tampa) the coach said in so many words there were no favorites with him. Well except Freeman. Nobody was a guaranteed starter. There would be competition at all positions and after training things would shake out.

Well this move proves that point I think . And as for Miller. He better not get comfotable. I have a gut feeling there is more to come.

  70. Rrsrq Says:

Hate letting Briscoe go, leading td receiver last year, should’ve had more if Josh would’ve look up more often, from the games I saw. Hate the BP trade, he’s not a Buccaneer Man, then who is. D. Holland appeared to be a great gunner on special teams, just not sure now. I was cool with Winslow and Jackson release, but this one has me smh.

  71. thomas two point two Says:

Dom truly has an amazing gift of finding 7th round talent in the 2nd round ! Very few GMs could consistently find that hidden 7th round gem in the 2nd round.

Anyone think Regis Benn would command more than a 7th right now?

Now let’s see how Schiano’s 2nd round pick, David, performs.

  72. RastaMon Says:

Well then Ronde will have to start taking snaps with the DL……..

  73. teacherman777 Says:

Cold blooded move cutting Brian Price.

He shouldnt even have been on the field last year. We destroyed his career by forcing him to play too early.

Now we send him to Chicago? If he doesnt pass the physical then what?

We cut the guy who needs to support two orphan boys?

Yea. Schiano is a real saint my ass!

Mark Barron is a punk for being so cold to Brian when he was in pain.

Im not happy about all this. Very hypocritical on Schiano’s part.

I would have been happy to put him on PUP for half the season and let him heal. But no, we cut him like hes a lame horse.

    Cold blooded.

  74. Mike J Says:

Some interesting comments, thanks to all.
Couple players the Bucs could have had instead of Brian:Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham.
    ‘Nuff said.
    Dom who?

  75. NJBucsFan Says:

Teacherman….I think you’ve taken this more personal than Price. It’s business. I’m sure you can ask anyone that has gotten laid off if they were asked about their living situation first and the answer would be no. I admire Price for adopting the children but he’s still getting paid his contract just from the Bears. Nothing cold hearted about it. Wake up man.

  76. DallasBuc Says:

Agreed teacherman. Would have really liked to see price compete this preseason. If the 7th round reports are true then it’s not like we are getting some sort of deal for him before vs after preseason. This guy gutted it out last year at some 70% in a waste of a season on this horrible defense. He deserves more credit than given. I will be very surprised if price does not rip it up in this league once healthy. Too bad it will not be with the bucs. Funny that starting caliber NFL ballers (jackson and price, NOT winslow) are unceremoneously kicked out of town in the two weakest positions on this sh*tty defense.
I just can’t see why this guy isn’t allowed to compete for a spot on this team. Something smells here

  77. former Buc coach Says:

BP was a solid player and worked his ass off. He was well liked by his teammates and was good in meetings as well. Make no mistake, this was a terrible move.

  78. Paul Says:

    Don’t like either move.

  79. sharkcoasttactical.com Says:

This makes no sense to me. Price was my favorite player. He was a beast at times last year playing at 65%. The guy’s story was amazing. I dont know what they saw at One Buc but its above my paygrade. But, isn’t the move like throwing away your extra ammo when you only have two magazines left and the zombie Apocalypse is a month away?

  80. Paul Says:

An incident must’ve happened since the Barron thing. Schiano just got done talking about family and giving Price time etc. Why the 180. Maybe Price hit Schiano or another coach?

  81. BigMacAttack Says:

Too point blank blame Barron or Price is just ignorant. One can speculate one way or the other, but only those that were there know who did what. I feel for Price and his loss, but that doesn’t give him the right to provoke a team mate and punch him. I understand hazing, pecking order and comeuppance, but if these things aren’t established initially, a newbie may not know his place. I will say this, “As a Buc, Brian Price didn’t do Jack Squat, even when he was healthy”. He was a huge disappointment for a 2’nd round pick. I hoped for more from him, but it is what it is. Dom missed on that pick, time to move on. As for Price telling Barron to get out of a seat, I don’t believe Price earned that status based on his past performance. Maybe Brian nicely asked him to get up, maybe he didn’t, who knows, but Schiano’s actions say a lot. First he sent Price home to Cali, excusing him from MANDATORY mini camp. Tjat tells me Price was messed up in the head. Now, the day of reporting, Price is traded for a Chicago Janitor. This tells me that Price is probably still messed up in the head, and punching Barron in the face may have been a bigger deal than thought which Schiano would not tolerate. I think they made the right move.

  82. BigMacAttack Says:

    … but I am only speculating….

I don’t believe Barron or Price either one are Punks.

  83. Joe Says:

    Hate letting Briscoe go

Briscoe all but begged Schiano to cut him loose by his actions (or non-actions.

In the immortal words of Hawk Harrellson, “He gone!”

Safe to say Schiano is not a fan of low-rung reality shows.

  84. 941-Bucs Says:

We have GMC, Okoeye, Frank Okam, and Roy Miller and if i am not mistaken another person got picked up this year for DT.

Miller has a very high motor tho I’ve seen him get ran over but O linemen. I believe his problem is more technique which i believe will be corrected this off season. I liked him coming out of Texas i was shocked to see him under perform like he has!

Okam is my X-factor, He has all the physical tools to but a gap plug, even showed some dominant flashes at the end of 2010. AS did the whole team Okam severely under performed last year as well. But he is my dark horse in Training Camp i hope he can get back to his beasty style again he can be a great piece to the cog.

  85. aj Says:

941, you are missing Gibson, the Rutgers guy from the Rams. I still want to see how they want to use Okoye.

And did Schiano really want Price to go home, or was that some kind of test? Did Schiano say he could go home, but really just want him to say he wanted to stay and go to camp?

I don’t have much hope for Miller, he loses way too many one on one battles. I hope they can coach him up, but Millard was not a chump for a coach last year, even if the rest of the staff was.

  86. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

We still have 6 DTs and 7 DEs on the roster. Clearly either a quality gut has been found, a signing is coming…or a trade is coming.

Drew Says: July 26th, 2012 at 5:59 pm

Amobi Okoye was re-activated today and there were also a couple of offseason DT moves.

    .

I said the other day not to believe anything Rick Stroud says. He claimed Okoye would be on PUP for the start of training camp…I said otherwise. Once again making up news backfires in Strouds face…all in the name of trying to predict the news.

  87. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

I never felt Price was any good. At least GMC is a natural leader.

  88. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

I think Miller has a healthy record and if he makes final foster it is because any of his faults are viewed as correctable.

Anyone who gives up on this teamat all is not a real fan and is welcome to exit stage right. ‘Nuff said!

  89. Warrior Price Says:

Price is a warrior. Just ask Joe , lol.

  90. NJBuc Says:

This is terrible. Wow. We just blew a 35th (there about) pick. It’s hard to be good blowing a pick like that.

  91. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

Blame the Saints bounty system…just for kickc :p

  92. Dano Says:

Good Lord! I would take Price @ 50% over Miller’s sorry butt anyday!

  93. chimichango07 Says:

    Fat Albert anyone??
Jk. Maybe after GMC goes down again…

  94. Joe Says:

    NJ:

This is terrible. Wow. We just blew a 35th (there about) pick. It’s hard to be good blowing a pick like that.

Just a hunch, but you never saw Price play prior to his injury?

  95. Nate Says:

I hope the best for Brian Price.. Marky D draft is starting to suck!

  96. Bucfan Says:

I liked price but the coaches saw it differently. For those of you jumping ship already, good we don’t need you.

  97. HFXBUC Says:

Any word on if Price and Briscoe were in the group that failed the conditioning test yesterday?

  98. BucNeckid Says:

Notice that the two guys cut were not at OTA’s
Maybe the reasons given for Price going to Cali were not the whole truth.
By saying that Price needed to “deal with personal matters” may have been only part of the reason that he was possibly sent away from OTA’s. The reasons that were given may have only been smoke screens to keep things quiet. Schiano does not need any type of off season turmoil.
We may never know how Price really acted behind closed locker room doors. Do we even really know why Rah sent him off of the field last year? Really? Maybe Price was just a total head case. Maybe it is due to his personal experiences. Maybe bad memories linger from the “disrespect” Rah gave him. Maybe too many bridges were burned. Maybe the truth lies in all of the reasons somewhere.
But we can not just herald him as an ultimate Buc for him just being a professional and coming back after an injury, regardless of how intense of an injury that it was. Remember he is not just for playing for the team, but for personal reasons as well, Million$$$ of them. He is a young man in a new “career” and one that he is only at the beginning of. One in which he has God given talent to make Millions of Dollars if he can stay on the field. One in which he has no long term documented success in. The NFL is a MultiMillion Dollar BUSINESS. Excuses whether actual truths or just excuses are still excuses. Look at his stats His injury may have ended his career and still may. We don’t know if he is football ready due to injury or weight. He still has to pass a Physical in Chicago and he still may not have his head just right enough to play football again. There are a lot of ifs ands and buts associated with Price. Potential never means anyting unless it is realized (GMC are you hearing this?). Price just has not produced any consistant results except in very brief flashes. Good luck to him and God Bless him and his family but I don’t think that us fans have the Whole story.
As far as cutting Briscoe goes…
Did anybody think that any head coach trying to change the culture around would put up with Briscoe’s crap anywhere? He was gone before you could say baby mama drama.

  99. Macabee Says:

Yes, Briscoe failed his conditioning test during OTAs and Price failed the test yesterday completing only 4 of 16 reps before sustaining some kind of injury. Note: I’m quoting Rick Stroud on Price so beware!

  100. k_bassuka Says:

Well talk about family, the kid had a freak injury, lost family member and this super bowl winning coaching staff gets rid of him before they even see him perform with pads on… The great Schiano BS has begun…

  101. Bobby Says:

Only the clueless are stunned by this. Brian has been unable to cope with his sister’s death and I’m sure he hasn’t been studying the playbook and working out like he should. If you blame Dom for this you are an absolute moron. It is hilarious to see the opinions change on this board like hormonal teenagers. After this year’s draft everyone was loving Dom. We trade Price and suddenly he’s the worst GM in football. I remember when we traded Antonio Bryant reading the same whining comments. I think Dom and Schiano know what they are doing.

  102. Nick Says:

I hope this doesn’t come back to bite us…

this guy played through injuries and worked hard. Seems the Buc’s could’ve been a little sympathetic given the situation. I hope he did something really bad besides not pass a conditioning test
