“You Won’t See Me Blocking That Much”
May 3rd, 2012Luke Stocker is one guy Joe thought flashed strong blocking and solid route running in his limited action last season. (Of course, Greg Olson pretty much stopped calling his number, but that’s a song for a different day.)
The point is the Bucs must have a good feeling about Stocker’s blocking, as well, considering Kellen Winslow is a subpar blocker and they drafted a tight end in Drake Dunsmore, who has little experience playing smashmouth football at the line of scrimmage. Dunsmore explained to Buccaneers.com.
“If you turn on the tape of me, you won’t see me blocking that much over the last four years. But I’d say I’m an eager blocker. You’ll be able to tell that by the way I block as a receiver and a slot guy, and moving and going in motion. But I haven’t had the opportunity to block a lot in-line, and that’s something I’m really excited to learn from the coaches up there and the tight ends that are already in Tampa. I’m hoping to progress in that department.”
Joe, too, hopes the new tight end coach and offensive staff can really coach everything out of the Bucs’ young players.
Interestingly, ex-Bucs tight end Anthony Becht, a veteran of 11 seasons and a former first-round pick, said on WHBO-AM today that it took him three full seasons to learn how to block effectively at the professional level.

It seemed to me that Stocker basically stunk up the joint…when he wasn’t injured that is. I could be wrong…didn’t have NFL ticket last year and didn’t see as much.

If I remember right, he was injured early into training camp and had a late start on the playbook as it was, combined with the awful coaching… the guy really had no chance just like Foster.

Winslow is what a7 year pro and hasn’t touched anyone to block yet.
I also bet Dunsmore is willing to practice and not constantly cry over not getting the ball or the officiating.
I am comfortable with Stocker being the starter and Winslow DJing in Vegas next season.

Will should probably take a TE in the next draft in the first or second. Hopefully were picking in the top 5. I figure K2 got this year and mabey next year, don’t remember when his contract is up, but then we will release him and that will free up more cap room.

Hopefully were picking in the top 5? That would mean we had another horrible season. Personally I’m hoping for a much lower draft pick.

@Kujolw
What the hell is wrong with you? No way you can call yourself a fan talking like that. Panthers fan, Taints fan, Falcons fan? I hope the Bucs are drafting 32nd next year.
