Warren Sapp Axed From “Inside The NFL”

May 25th, 2012

The year of discontent for former Bucs great Warren Sapp continues with news this morning that Sapp will no longer be a regular panelist on Showtime’s “Inside the NFL,” so reports Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

We’re told Showtime has decided to drop former UM and NFL star Warren Sapp from Inside the NFL. The network confirmed that to us. The other cast members – James Brown, Phil Simms, Cris Collinsworth – are expected back. NFL Network hasn’t said whether it will renew Sapp’s contract this summer. Sapp drew criticism for accusing Jeremy Shockey of telling the league about the Saints’ bounty program – a claim that Shockey and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell have denied.

The past few months haven’t been so pleasant for Sapp. First, there was his fingering of Jeremy Shockey as the Saints’ snitch, but Shockey turned out not to be the whistleblower in the Saints scandal.

Then there was the realization that Sapp squandered all of his tens of millions of dollars when he filed for bankruptcy.

Add to that, Sapp, who has yet to re-up his contract with NFL Network that expires in August, is starring in a YouTube-only TV reality series where he portrays a judge.

    sad really..

  2. Orlandobucfan Says:

Amazing how someone can fall so fast because of his own actions.

  3. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

    What actons?

So he accused Shockey…although Joe said it isn’t true, and although there was a statement made regarding it…we won’t really KNOW if Sapp was right unless the NFL reveals the “snitch”.

But even if it was true, who gives a rip??? So Sapp said something about Shockey. True or not, Shockey has said MANY things about other players, past and formal. It’s not reason to fire Sapp.

And so he filed for bankruptsy? Big deal. It’s not a crime or even close to it. Many, many, many people are filing for bankruptsy these days, even our government (who actually requested a payment plan to pay ME money owed).

Sapp is Sapp. There’s no denying that. But he’ll be fine. The truth is he doesn’t need the NFL anymore. He doesn’t NEED showtime. He can do more Roasts. The Fox Sports network will take him. Heck…I’d love to see him become an offensive line coach.

  4. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

Let me add…does anyone here really think Sapp’s mouth wasn’t the reason he was hired in the first place? The Network welcomes controversy…it brings ratings.

  5. GenocideD Says:

What a disappointment he’s becoming. A judge? Pffft. Pretty soon he’ll be a pro wrestler.
He was the sole reason I became a Bucs fan and now I’m embarrassed for him.

  6. j lynch Says:

The fat ass was already a judge on bbq pitt masters he just needs to go away!!

  7. espo Says:

Without that man, we wouldn’t have a championship. Plain and simple. Get off his back.

He can come live on my couch. Its extra wide.

  8. ALSTOTTSMART! Says:

Warrick Dunn just donated his 115th home to a needy family.

Says everything about two former Bucs.

  9. GenocideD Says:

I bet Warrick doesn’t have a lion skin rug though…

  10. Fear The Glow Says:

What the hell is going on in that picture? Did he just see a cheeseburger get dropped on the ground? Someone offered him a salad? Mike Sherman stole his parking spot? Im dying to know!

  11. BigMacAttack Says:

Sapp is okay as an analyst, but I could really care less if he is there or not. It was nice to see Derrick Brooks on the NFL Network last night. There’s a guy you can count on. I like Inside the NFL somewhat, but Phil Simms is a D-Bag and Sapp is just a loudmouth that tries to drowned everyone else out. He is about as big a Buc hater anymore as there is, so seeya. I also believe that Warren got his personality in a car wreck.

  12. Ashamed Says:

Couldn’t happened to a nicer guy…a few years ago my grandfather said we were actually related to that POS

  13. Have A Nice Day Says:

And there goes another reason not to pay for the NFL network.

  14. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

Sapp is not a Bucs hater, BigMac…lol. He has made it clear…once a Buc, always a Buc. Just because he doesn’t think the Bucs will make the playoffs THIS YEAR doesn’t mean he’s a hater.

  15. Have A Nice Day Says:

Right, Pete? Sapp has been pro Buccaneers since he joined the NFL Network. That was a fairly big gripe of fans of the other teams in the NFCS. In Sapp’s own 2011 words about Freeman’s upcoming 2011 season – “The one thing this team has that I never had is a franchise quarterback…. They have a franchise quarterback and I see the kid as an MVP candidate this year.”

Why would a Buc hater drop a Buc’s name for MVP?

  16. Orlandobucsfan Says:

By actions I was referring to clearly the way he spent millions of dollars and just because “many, many” people have filed for bankruptcy doesn’t mean it’s not a big deal. Getting let go of your current jobs while filing for bankruptcy is a big deal. I’m not saying he wasn’t an amazing player by any means because he was awesome to watch and cheer for, but things have gone down hill dramatically for him this year.
Also to say he doesn’t need the NFL and then turn around and say you want him to be an offensive line coach seems a bit contradicting? Of course he needs the nfl to do any job he has no experience in anything else( except being a judge on YouTube or BBQ ).

  17. Hectic Buc Says:

I love SAPP the only reason why I am a bucs fan is cause of him and BROOKS. We wouldnt have anything if it wasnt for those 2. He isnt the first and sure as hell wont be the last. All this talk about him being a hater r u serious no way come on. He would love nothing more 2 SCREAM OUT LOUD THE BUCS ARE THE SUPERBOWL CHAMPS !! After that 4- 2 start. Then 10 straight no heart, no soul and then no FIGHT what the hell. You would have thought the whole team quit and they did every one quit except free and it shows on the game. Honestly what i think it is that sapp isnt in the camps to see what is going on and what changes have been done. I think simply put he is only underestimating Schaino college coach and all probably thinks the game is to big for him. What Sapp does not realize that schiano has alot of eyes, ears and help around him. I think if any new coach that has come to the nfl not only this year but in many years that even looks like he can be the new BELICHICK is that man. NFC SOUTH BEWARE THE BUCS SHALL RISE AGAIN !! GO BUCS BABY!!

  18. Have A Nice Day Says:

Hectic Buc gave me chills at the end of that post. GO BUCS BABY!!!!!

  19. Lion Says:

“But Shockey turned out not to be the whistleblower in the Saints scandal”

Where is the proof of that?

  20. pewterC Says:

    – He gave us an identity when we had none.
    – He left everything on the field.
    – He pushed everyone on the team.

Say what you want, but I don’t care how screwed up his life gets. Sapp will ALWAYS be one of my favorite Bucs.

  21. Mcnabb to Barber for 6 Says:

    @pewterC

    Amen.

  22. Garv Says:

Sapp is a Ring of Honor Buccaneer and Hall of Fame NFL player.
    That matters too………a lot.

  23. Pete 422 Says:

A great football player & that’s about it.

  24. Brown Bag Says:

It’s time for Sapp to stop making money in football and start making money after football. Many veterans have successful careers after the NFL. He isn;t going to make millions each year, but he has a name and a story. He can start tugging heart strings
