Why Joe Is Geeked Over Lavonte David
April 27th, 2012Last year during football season Joe was hoping beyond hope that somehow, someway, the Bucs could land Nebraska linebacker Lavonte David.
Tonight was that night.
Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik traded up and got David in the second round.
Why is Joe, much less Dominik and new Bucs coach Greg Schiano, pumped over landing David? Joe will give you a snippet courtesy of ProFootballWeekly.com.
Positives:
Highly instinctive — moves before the snap and shows excellent ability to diagnose. Is around the ball a lot. Flies around and plays with intensity. Outstanding balance and body control — almost moves like a safety. Very dependable tackler in and outside the box — can string backs to the sideline and has outstanding playing range. Very alert eyes and zone awareness — covers ground and clings to receivers passing through his area. Superb football character — has tunnel vision, takes pride in his craft and breathes football. Coachable film junkie.
As Schiano said after the pick to the pen an mic club, “A lot of players love football. This kid lives football.”
Joe needs a beer (or five).

You left out the negatives and summary.
[Why do you think Joe added the link in the copy Thomas? — Joe]

Schiano finally showed us a bit of his personality in that interview, he was excited. David WIL, Foster MIC, Watson Sam. Great draft so far, Go Bucs!

Thomas…weakness…size. He is built almost exactly like DB was. And in fact is often compared to DB when one thinks of a guy he seems to be the most like. So in essence, we got a guy that might be the next Lynch and the next DB (if we are incredibly fortunate and these guys work incredibly hard). If you have to have a weakness, I guess that would be about as good as it could be.

Yeah, I’ll take a linebacker that sucks like Derrick Brooks. *LOL*

2.2 Seriously, what is wrong with you? What happened?
Something is not right. Get a job, talk to someone, find some friends.
There are a couple here you might like….a lot. Seek them out, go to Dallas. Get in a circle.
What a DRAFT!!!!

I was shocked at first pick as we all were. If some remember we wanted S Barry YEAR B4 last . So safety it is . Since we got Barber back and Biggers- WHO BY THE WAY IS NOT TO SHABBY(and Talib is a question mark-?-) we got corners Lewis also…with Shiano running the defense…these guys should show up. or till next season. Martin and David….simply geniuos….THANK YOU
ROCK STAR MARK DOMINIC … for a draft that wont be forgotten …lets hope they produce n stay healthy..for now excited like Tebow..LOL

The kid looks small, gets ran over alot, and seems to be out of postion on alot of plays, not hating the pick, just cautious and not to sure about this pick, still have a lot of concerns over losing the third and fourth.

Lived in Tampa for 10 years, but not a Bucs fan. However I am a huge Nebraska fan and you guys are going to love David! All he does is make plays and is a sure tackler, he can blitz, stop the run, fill a gap and cover. Great pick!

The size issue was the exact same Knocks they had on Derrick Brooks!
Don’t let them fool you. This kid reminds me so much of Mr.Brooks! – tremendous instincts, top rate cover skills. Great open field tackler
And speed! Man, this dude is fast!
Gonna improve our Lbs immediately- as a rookie, is ten times vetted than Hayes!
Now- we have to get Foster back to his natural position- Sam- where he may thrive
Still need a vet MLB
But the David pickup has me stoked . An “A” pick, like the Martin pick.
