Warren Sapp Files For Bankruptcy
April 7th, 2012Former Bucs great and future Hall of Fame defensive tackle Warren Sapp is not doing so well these days.
Per TMZ.com, Sapp has filed for bankruptcy in Florida. In short, Sapp owes a boatload of cash to a lot of people, and his assets won’t cover the costs.
According to the docs, Sapp owes more than $6.7 million to various creditors … including hundreds of thousands of dollars in child support payments and alimony to at least 4 different baby mamas.
Among the debts, Sapp says he owes $853k to the IRS for 2006 and another $89k for 2010. Sapp says he also owes $2,858 in medical bills for “Corrective Speech and Language Therapy.”
Well, the speech therapy can likely be written off as a business expense so long as Sapp keeps his NFL Network gig that pays him just over $500,000 a year.
However, Sapp’s contract with NFL Network runs out this summer. Given the fracas over Sapp incorrectly outing Jeremy Shockey as a whistleblower, which could be against federal statutes, Sapp may not be back with NFL Network.
Some of the assets Sapp listed in the court papers include:
- 240 pairs of Jordan sneakers and sandals
- Large Nude women painting
- Lion skin rug (female – lioness)
Also, Sapp claims he has lost his Super Bowl ring as well as the championship ring he earned with the Hurricanes.
This is just sad all around, especially the kids who are not getting their financial support.

Not cool at all
April 7th, 2012 at 8:24 am
Karma is a bitch!!!
April 7th, 2012 at 8:28 am
That sucks for him. He will always have a job in football. He’s a FHOFer.
April 7th, 2012 at 8:31 am
Bucs should hire him to be McCoy’s personal coach/shadow.
April 7th, 2012 at 8:38 am
So sad.
When will these yong athletes learn to stop wasting their money?
April 7th, 2012 at 8:44 am
“lost his rings” really. He could t just have hidden them so they will not be liquidated…
He’ll be fine. America loves a comeback story. Put him on a reality tv show and I’m sure people will watch.
April 7th, 2012 at 8:46 am
@ATLBuc…. Why? So McCoy can start to populate Tampa?
April 7th, 2012 at 8:47 am
Sapp’s issues all come down to poor decision making. First stop having kids all over the place, don’t invest in business you know anything about, stop running your mouth and start filtering your comments. Don’t retire early and spend like you still playing.
Loved having Sapp in a Bucs uni but man this guy has made an arse of himself over years out of the league.
April 7th, 2012 at 8:52 am
@Bobby…Populate Tampa and accumulate sacks.
April 7th, 2012 at 8:54 am
It’s a shame for the kids, but Sapp never strikes me as being anything other than a real arse.
April 7th, 2012 at 8:57 am
Sapp as an under-tackle in Duny’s defense, was a beast. Sapp as a broadcaster is funny…
…but Sapp in real life is a tool.
April 7th, 2012 at 9:09 am
It’s really too bad.
But, one of the more difficult things in life , is to go from poverty- to having huge financial assests. I wish the NFL would futher educate theses guys. It ha
April 7th, 2012 at 9:13 am
Damn it!
“it happens far to often. ”
But the NFL offers a lot of Finacial help, and damn near 24 hour a day advisors
A lot of these guys don’t think they need advice.
Which, sadly is how you end up with 200 pairs of shoes, lion rugs, and Bankrupt
Good luck Warren. Hope you get thru this okay.

I agree with Jersey, no way he lost those rings, not Sapp. 100% BS on that. It is sad to see athletes that make so much money broke in such a short time. He still makes the salary from the TV gig. I liked Sapp as a player, he was great, but I have no respect for guys that allow this to happen. I guess Shockey gets the last laugh this time.
Hey dummy, don’t live beyond your means, and wear a condom.
I hear Keith McCants is looking for a new partner.
April 7th, 2012 at 9:17 am
Any who has ever met Sapp or knows the real him should not feel bad for this guy. Sapp is the biggest fake around, a total Delta Bravo, who is getting what he deserves. My only hope is that he just rides off into the sunset never to be heard from again.
April 7th, 2012 at 9:35 am
I was shocked he would target a fellow U of Miami alumni like Jeremy Shockey.
But I have to say I enjoy Warren Sapp on TV.
April 7th, 2012 at 9:48 am
sapp was a great player but a HOF jerk…karma is a bitch.
i was introduced to him at a charity event and he wouldnt even do the normal thing and shake my hand.
stop having kids and be a man…loser
April 7th, 2012 at 10:04 am
Anyone want to bet that he sold those rings?
April 7th, 2012 at 10:08 am
I always had to keep a close eye on the newspaper’s bankruptcy filings because of my job. It always mad me sad to see someone file who had $100 in assets and $2,000 in debt. I would always be amused when someone stuck it to the banksters for million of dollars.
Good one, Warren, pay for your kids but screw the banksters. In a few years, you can locate the missing rings and keep them for eternity. In fact, you can wear them in your coffin, just remember to be buried face down so everybody can kiss your ass.

Smoke screen people just a smoke screen!!!!!
April 7th, 2012 at 10:59 am
@Miquel Grande I love it!
April 7th, 2012 at 11:12 am
I loved watching him play football for the Buccaneers.
I don’t ask people for autographs, unless it’s on a check written out to me!
I don’t understand losing that much money. Think it might be about hiding assets from a Shockey lawsuit.
I do not feel sorry for Warren Sapp. He’s an adult and will land on his feet. This “problem” is of his own doing.
April 7th, 2012 at 11:27 am
Sapp was always one of my favorite Bucs. Sure he can be full of himself sometimes, but it comes from being told how great you are from the time you are a kid. He does need to take his part in taking care of his kiddies though as he is the father. My favorite Sapp story was when my ex-wife started irritating a group of us at a golf outing Sapp was also at and he blasted her for even being there and disrupting our (his) fun!!! It was GREAT!!! I will always be a SAPP fan after that!!!!
April 7th, 2012 at 11:30 am
Fat,loudmouth who is too full of himself. His kids will suffer with a lack of $$$ coming each month. Going bankrupt still will not teach him anything. Just a dummy !!!
April 7th, 2012 at 11:55 am
Typical. Not surprising.
April 7th, 2012 at 12:05 pm
God, I hope one of his debtors is a vasectomy clinic!
April 7th, 2012 at 12:42 pm
@L.J.
Sapp is not a father. He is a sprem donor.
April 7th, 2012 at 12:56 pm
Anyone think this will hurt his chances of being first ballot?
April 7th, 2012 at 1:10 pm
I hope he does lose his the NFL network gig and becomes the bucs next d-line coach.
April 7th, 2012 at 1:46 pm
I saw Sapp on video a couple of weeks ago bragging to Irvin, and Holt that he has a ring also, He didn’t have it on his finger, but definitely stated “I have a ring too”. Not a Sapp hater, appreciated all he did on the field in Tampa, but will have to question his “losing” a ring that expensive.
Hiding assets will get him a some time in the pokey.
April 7th, 2012 at 2:11 pm
Man, they really need to require these athletes to take money management courses while they are in college.
April 7th, 2012 at 3:23 pm
Another case of American Materialism.
April 7th, 2012 at 3:25 pm
Bad money management – He will be one of the few Buc’s HOF players and I like his takes on NFL network. Hopefully he can get it together and make right with his kids. I’m sure his baby’s mama’s are all cooperating… lol
April 7th, 2012 at 5:19 pm
Bet Brooks or Barber wouldn’t have this problem. That’s because there is a big difference in first class and dumb a##.
April 7th, 2012 at 5:44 pm
He was a great football player, terrible person. I’ve heard too many stories of how he was an arse in public to Bucs fans and the general public. He has tasted urine in his food by being a jerk to servers. “Take my order so I don’t have to talk to your kind”. The dude was white.
April 7th, 2012 at 11:58 pm
You do know he didn’t really lose those rings, right? He just does not want to be forced to sell them.
April 8th, 2012 at 10:24 am
Pretty typical…The majority of athletes thrive on instant gratification. Bottom line. Many of them never had a father figure, and that not only precipitates into their lives but into the way they raise their offspring. Pathetic. Where is the outrage from Jesse Jackson regarding the fact that in the black community it is normal to have numerous children out of wedlock. They then blame society instead of looking inward. Pathetic. What’s even more of a disgrace is the way in which many of you put these losers on a pedestal.
April 8th, 2012 at 5:55 pm
Forget about the uniform Warren, put a Trojan on.
