Mystified By The Mark Barron Pick
April 27th, 2012Interesting back forth below between WDAE-AM 620 host Bobby Fenton and Senior NFL writer Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports. Cole thinks the Bucs thoroughly blew it by taking a safety over a cornerback, especially one in Morris Claiborne that’s widely considered can’t miss.
Take a listen.

That’s because Jason Cole doesn’t have any knowledge of who any of these college players unless they’re one of the top 5 picks. He’s awful and you should feel ashamed for even giving him a plug.

“Its a passing league”…except against the Bucs. Where teams go to work on the running game. This is better. He’ll shadow Newton. I don’t see Claiborne stopping any runs. And remember Dallas picked “our guy” 4 years ago in Jenkins. Now they don’t want him. Dallas is about flash not guts.

I was on this board yesterday pleading for the Bucs to move up for TR b/c I think he and Richardson are the truely “special” players in this draft. I have come to grips with that not happening and just in a couple of years we are talking about what could have been like Bucs fans do with Calvin Johnson and not moving up for him.
Martin might be special and I really like what he showed but he did play against lesser competition and in an non pro style offense. I am going to be his biggest fan hoping he will become a Ray Rice type player.
I think Barron is a good pick and while that is high on safety I never liked the Mo C pick b/c he is so one demensional as a DB. He cannot tackle and is not physical at the line. He will have a tough time with big tough WR IMO.

I liked the trade back from 5, but I would have liked to have seen them trade back again and pick up another 2nd. They could have picked up a good linebacker instead of Barron and taken a flyer with Jenkins in the 2nd round.

Jason Cole? I’m sorry, who?

You can only get what a team is willing to give.

Also the more I saw Keuchly the less I liked him. He really seems like a Ruud or Kieth Brooking kind of player that has tons of tackles at the end of the season but as a fan you realize how many of those are 4-6 yards past the line. I like the physical nature of a guy like Barron that meets people HARD. I think Kuechly makes tackles but is not that nasty and tough ILB like Ray Lewis and Patrick Willis.
That said the Bucs still need help at LB and I am not sold on anyone in the draft that could impact next season. Hopefully they are still looking to acquire a veteran via waiver, FA, or trade. Even if you stay with Foster who is his back up?

Well, to be fair, Barron is just as much a “cant miss” player as Claiborne. By all accounts, the best Safety in the draft by far.

After reading on PFT what Claiborne said last night about the Wonderlic, I feel even better about the Bucs’ choice of Barron. It was one thing to be mentally challenged. Its another thing to be arrogant and cocky about it. Claiborne is not smart and someone that says stupid things will also do stupid things. I’d be surprised if Claiborne doesn’t get arrested before the first game when the checks start rolling in. I’m really glad Dominick saw through the hype and passed on a good player severely lacking brains and enough common sense to keep his mouth shut about it.

Jason Cole has always been a Bucs hating scumbag, for years. Nothin else needs to be said. I’ll take the assessments of Cosell and Mayock over this clown.

AND THAT’S WHY COLE ISN’T A COACH OR GM. What a bone head. Keep with your little girlfriends at yahoo sports…WHO? Cmon you all are a freaking search engine. who are you? NOTHING. Keep your opinion to yourself. I’m happier without Claiborne. Only one I would’ve possibly wanted over Barron was Kuechly to sure up the middle. BUCNATION BABY got us a GREAT SAFETY. Very excited

I’m mystified that Jason Cole is a ‘Senior’ Writer for Yahoo. Doesn’t say much about their sports department.

Jason Cole is a douchebag.
Let’s see… who knows better? Casserly or Cole?
The guy who took Mario Williams over Reggie Bush or the guy who works for Yahoo Sports?

claiborne is as dumb as box of rocks . barron will run our d great pick

I would love to here what our current DB coach (Claiborne’s former DB coach) said to the Bucs Brass about Claiborne before the draft. Obviously, he knew something about Claiborne that turned them off. Or maybe it was as simple as the “Wonderlic” don’t lie.

If you think about it drafting Mark Barron makes loads more sense than drafting Claiborne. Barron can make splash plays in the run defense, pass defense, and can blitz. Claiborne is more of a one dimensional player. Great pick up.

Wow I think I’ll get away from this pro-Dominik propaganda page. Cole isn’t the only one who thinks this was a total “meh” pick, not to mention they let the Jags move up for next to nothing- a 4th round pick that Roadie-star will inevitably take a backup FB or TE. Whoopie.
