Greg Schiano Gives His First Impressions
April 2nd, 2012Players were back at One Buc Palace today and able to work with coaches for the first time and talk football. Greg Schiano talked to the media at 12:30 p.m. and here are Joe’s highlights:
*Greg Schiano said he was “flying out of bed” this morning raring to go.
*Schiano said some guys were not there and reminded media this was voluntary attendance for players today. Schiano did not get into specifics on who was there and who wasn’t other than saying Josh Freeman was front and center.
*Coaches can not be on the field with players but can do everything else. Strength and conditioning staff can work with players on all kinds of thing.
“Good to have those eyes looking back at you,” Schiano said of being in front of his team. Schiano didn’t get too specific about his messaging. “What I took from it was a group of guys that are willing and want to,” Schiano said. Now it’s about leadership, Schiano said.
*Overall, Schiano said he was encouraged by the “attentiveness” he saw from players today.
*Schiano said establishing his staff took longer than he wanted. Schiano said philosophically he’s on the same page with his staff yet he’s still learning to work together with them. Schiano said he will not micromanage but he will have non-negotiable points mandated by the head coach.
*Asked about how he will instill discipline, Schiano said we have to regain [fans] trust — on the field and in the community. … An interesting response.
*Goal is to implement all schemes two times through offseason.
*Schiano said there were “no red flags” regarding players coming back from injuries. He was asked specifically about Michael Bennett, Cody Grimm and Aqib Talib.

Well…that was a short one, wasn’t it?
I swear, right now I could watch the guy speak for an hour or more and not get enough.
April 2nd, 2012 at 12:43 pm
Just finished watching. I really like Schiano and I think he will do great things with this football team. Can’t wait.
April 2nd, 2012 at 12:53 pm
Just imagine…if he is this inspiring to fans…imagine how inspiring he is to the players.
I know it’s early and all…but this guy sure inspires a lot of hope for this season. More than I expected quickly.

Any word on whether Blount and Williams showed up, on time and stayed awake?
I assume Winslow wasn’t in attendance since he believes he isn’t required to participate in even mandatory practices.
I also assume that THC Jax was nowhere to be found for fear that he might be subjected to a drug test. THC gets nowhere near a NFL facility when not required. However he is easy to find just follow the large plume of smoke. Lol
Just kidding boys, great to have a real coach who will eliminate the problems – in due time. Even Tim’s ‘leading receiver.”. Just think if he practiced – he might get to a 5 catch 50 yard per game average. Lmao

Can’t we get a picture of the Coach…In “BUC” gear
April 2nd, 2012 at 1:26 pm
Don’t think Schiano isn’t taking serious notes on who didn’t feel it was important enough to attend the voluntary meeting.
April 2nd, 2012 at 1:28 pm
Was GMC there or did he get hurt on the flight over?
April 2nd, 2012 at 1:29 pm
jfgobucs fan has a good point, Joe. Lets make that the last pic of Schiano in college gear. Hes moved up now
April 2nd, 2012 at 1:31 pm
I’m officially buying what Schiano is selling. He has a ton of work ahead of him but I’m finally starting to believe he’s the right man for the job.
April 2nd, 2012 at 1:42 pm
I want to know who was not there.
IMO, other than sickness or a death in the family
there should be no excuse for not attending.
I want to know.
April 2nd, 2012 at 1:53 pm
@Jarrett….lmao!
What the hell could the other players not in attendance be doing?!?! How could this (with all things factored in new) NOT BE the largest priority for players to all attend!? They’ve had almost 6 months with their families, and they chose to be a professional athlete for a living.
Unacceptable.
April 2nd, 2012 at 2:09 pm
Amazing how completely routine coach speak looks so good compared to rah.
April 2nd, 2012 at 2:09 pm
Would be curious to hear who was MIA as well and what their reasons were. Do like the fact Schiano was measured in his response as to how quickly he and the staff can get this thing turned around. Lived in Jersey from 2002-2010 and followed Rutgers closely. Tampa has a coach that’s going to get it done, and one they can be proud of. Lots of work to do, excited for the season to get started. Joe, does the media have any access to the OTA coming up in a few weeks?
April 2nd, 2012 at 2:11 pm
@eric,
It’s all in the delivery and sincerity.
April 2nd, 2012 at 2:25 pm
Yes! Get Coach in a Buc polo please.
April 2nd, 2012 at 2:45 pm
Just listened to the PC and have to admit that I like this Coach. Not once did I here any reference to something as ridiculous as YOUNGRY. All I heard was reference to we’ll be men on and off the field.
Loving it!!!
April 2nd, 2012 at 2:46 pm
Man I hope we draft Mo Claiborne over T-Rich…
April 2nd, 2012 at 2:53 pm
So does this mean everytime he talks noboby gets credit for anything? Only our bright and shining Star. ” Freeman was front and center”. WHO CARES??? There were more there!!
April 2nd, 2012 at 3:10 pm
This just in:
Greg Schiano successfully tied his shoes today.
Swoooooooooon
April 2nd, 2012 at 3:14 pm
When this young team takes on the personality of it’s new coach and leader, THEN it will be a proffessional football team.
April 2nd, 2012 at 3:16 pm
Not buying it at all, Schiano will fail misserably in the NFL just like the most of them…
Can we get a real coach here for once?
April 2nd, 2012 at 3:18 pm
Eric- lol
I like the guy, but gonna wait til he does something before I start an assessment
But, boy It’s spring time for some of them around here!
Just listening to Schiano- all starred eyed, hanging in his every sylibil!
Man, somebody que a Tom Jones record!
I hope he can keep the love!!Buuut, They keep that Same glazed look when they are carrying touches, on their way to burn yer castle down!!
April 2nd, 2012 at 3:23 pm
Buuut- their “new coach and leader” has never been a PROFFESIONAL player or Coach!!!
If they take on his personality- they’ll go .500 against Connecticut!
Oh, the inhumanity!
April 2nd, 2012 at 3:34 pm
Buuuuutt Head…..just because some people tend to take a positive outlook on Schiano doesn’t mean we think the Bucs are going to the super bowl this year. It just means we think he has all the tools needed to right the ship. Buuuut continue to be a negative ass hole if you want. You’re making us all look forward to your next lame post….
April 2nd, 2012 at 3:35 pm
Captain… Would it be possible for you to just once lighten up and/or ease up on the negativity. In your post you stated you’ll wait and see before doing an assessment and in the very next paragraph you’re throwing Schiano under the bus.
Is this due to having a split personality?
April 2nd, 2012 at 4:00 pm
Sleazy Joe media. Should find out who’s not at One buc palace. Write something worth reading.
April 2nd, 2012 at 4:09 pm
i really hope we draft luck.
April 2nd, 2012 at 4:31 pm
he looked in the players eyes, and they looked back.
wow!!!!!!
of course for all i know rah was staring at his feet or maybe in the restroom during team meeting.
bar is pretty low here!
April 2nd, 2012 at 4:41 pm
Eric…are you in the running w/Capt for ‘most negative lame poster’ because you’re neck and neck with him right now.
April 2nd, 2012 at 5:25 pm
is there a age requirement for posting because some of you seem to be about 13 yrs old ! GO BUCS !!
April 2nd, 2012 at 5:26 pm
It is the offseason and like most of you, I to suffer from Post Football Season Depression or P.F.S.D. It’s good that we can admit this and move on. Breing cranky about every article printed is one of the many symptoms which goes hand in hand with
-Secretly mancrushing on former Head Coaches
-Openly bashing everything you read
-Frequently checking comments to see if they include a response to yours
-Griping about how horrible you team will probably be next year
-Saggy man tits
-and yes gentleman getting upset with the writer when he includes an old picture of your new head coach
Remember, its not your fault, its a condition, and it even has a name!
April 2nd, 2012 at 5:56 pm
@ColoradoBuc… LMAO !
April 2nd, 2012 at 6:20 pm
Get the fu-k off of this site with all this bullsh-t about are players and new head coach.
Why would you even come on here if all some of you do is bash the team.I bet if the bucs won the superbowl u would still bitch about something like they diden’t score that much or they got lucky so once again get the fu-k off here you saint lover ya maybe thats it some of you jerks are saints fans.
Tampaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
April 2nd, 2012 at 6:27 pm
Breaking news capt.negative ,eric, and that dumba–thomasss 2.2 are all saints fans.
April 2nd, 2012 at 7:42 pm
Cowher has the chin, Chucky has the scowl, Schiano has ” the neck”, that guy is thick, I like it, can’t wait til the veins start popping out when the D misses tackles
April 2nd, 2012 at 10:25 pm
“I want to know who was not there.
IMO, other than sickness or a death in the family
there should be no excuse for not attending.
I want to know.”
Since when is it the Bucs responsibility to feed you, or anyone else (including the media) every detail possible about the organization ? In the same light, who cares if you ‘appropve’ of the absentee team members, or not. Presumably, coach knows who & why, & will form his own opinion, independant of anything you have to say. For me, I don’t care what he says, or how he says it, as long as the results show up on the field, & we’re a looooong ways from seeing anything ‘on the field’.
BTW, you ARE aware, right, that these meetings are “Voluntary”, RIGHT? That they are mandated to be ‘Voluntary’ by the NFL, RIGHT? I find it funny that people find it to be of vast importance that a player doesn’t attend a “voluntary” meeting.
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:16 pm
4-12 . People. Try to contain yet man crushes and idolization just a bit, shall we?
We all want the team to succeed.
A little realism, with a touch of skepticism, might be of more use to your team, rather than denial and unrated optimism
After all, so far we have done exactly WHAT to correct the worst defensive back 7 in the league??
You can remember- the guys losing by 40 points every game? The ones that quit?
So far- nothing. Nada! We did way overpay for a pretty bad Cb.
Which figures! That’s one thing we were well stocked on!
We need a pretty good one!
When they start fixing that horrible Defensive back 7, my option will just go off the charts!
But for the second straight spring- so far- Nuthin!
Lotta LBers been signed . .
April 2nd, 2012 at 11:44 pm
Oh, by the way- not really worried about some of whinning ” negative”- so save yer breathe!!
It’s because I know most of the ” cheer squad” by now.
You are like small children.
You were the same last year. I told all of you- if we lose Ruud and Caddy, don’t get a couple CBs and LBers- we will have a losing season
That’s when the lil homers started parading around- bragging about having 10 wins- sure we were winning the NFC south, telling me I was just some clueless hater!!
Lmao!!
Same lil happy Homers started crying their eyeliner off!!
Went from” Tim is a hater” tO” worst team ever !!
Yet- here you lil cymbal banging monkeys are again!
It’s ok to hope for the best. It’s great to be positive
To be blind and clueless two years in a row??
Come on- even a goldfish has a longer memory!
Stop acting like 15 year old girls chasing the Beatles, over Schiano.
It’s kinda embarrassing for the rest of us!
Let’s give the man a chance to Coach- and then we’ll see if he’s got the stuff or not. I hope he does!
Otherwise, I’ll have to listen to you “Fairweather fans” talk crap about him here 24 -7
April 3rd, 2012 at 1:08 pm
My God Capt…are you an adult or are you a teenage girl posting during your bathroom breaks at school?? You are nothing short of pathetic. If you actually believe that having Caddy and Ruud would have made us a winning team last year then you are beyond delusional.
Everybody knows that we haven’t done anything yet little timmy, but that doesn’t mean we have to hug the nuts of last year’s losing season like you seem to want to do. Last year is OVER. It’s a new day and I like the direction we are going. Continue your ridiculous Bucs bashing if you want to and I’ll just continue to point out how childish you are after each post. We’ll both be happy.
