Stop Being Sloppy!

March 30th, 2012

Joe knows all about being sloppy. You should see him after a few beers on a steamy Friday night, gawking at Courtney the Bartender.

But it’s one thing to get sloppy at one of the great establishments of the Original Hooters chain, it’s quite another to be sloppy on a football field.

This seems to grate at new Bucs coach Greg Schiano who, while speaking with eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune at the NFL owners meetings in Palm Beach this week, all but hinted at a housecleaning because of the lack of discipline with the Bucs.

“We’re one of the sloppier teams with the football that I’ve ever seen, so we have to get that remedied from Day 1,” Greg Schiano said Wednesday at a media breakfast with NFC coaches. “That’ll take a lot because it’s a bad habit.”

The Bucs led the NFL with 40 giveaways last season, finishing last with a minus-16 turnover differential in the final year of the Raheem Morris regime.

It was almost as if Schiano is bracing Bucs fans for a honeymoon of sorts, not to expect too much too soon as he stated it takes a while to work the bad habits out of one’s system.

Hopefully with an extra OTA and a full offseason this spring and summer, Schiano will get a head start in exorcising these demons.

    List of Improvements:

    1) Tackling

    2) Gap Integrity & Containment (Bennett)

    3) Rallying to the ball

    4) Controlled professional pass rush moves and games (I’m looking at you GMC)

I gotta great feeling about Coach

  4. Bobby Says:

I like a coach who calls it like he sees it instead of making excuses.

  5. Bobby Says:

@Sensiblebuc…’controlled professional pass rush moves’ ??????? GMC does exactly what they ask him to do when he is in the game ‘wreak havoc’ and get into the backfield to get the QB off of his spot. They don’t care if he makes the tackle or not, they just don’t want the play going down as designed. I saw it over and over again last year when McCoy was healthy. He would immediately be in the opposing teams backfield and the play would get forced to the outside where Claiborne or Bennett would make the tackle (or miss it and get around the outside for a big gain). If you go back and look at the games McCoy played in you will see he is very disruptive and that is exactly what you want out of a DT. Look at Suh this past season. He was waaaaayyy down on tackles and sacks from the previous year but he was a disruptive force that allowed Avril and others to have a lot more tackles. That’s why it’s a ‘team’ sport and why DE’s get a lot more sacks than DT’s. It’s all about making the other team go away from where the play was designed to go.

That is way to friggin funny !!

Refreshing remarks from our new coach.

  9. OAR Says:

Yeah, our “gap intergrity” last year was like a prostitute nun!

Is Draft 2012 weekend here yet. It is going to be a longggggg 26 days. Joe, will you be at OBP next week when the players and coaches meet or at the OTA coming up in mid-April?

  11. SteveK Says:

    Bobby,

    GMC is soft.

    He needs to learn technique.

GMC only “wreaked havoc” on Twitter.

GMC is making too much damn money to be a “Pop Warner” tackler.

Any way you cut it, GMC needs to be healthy this year, or it is “bye bye”.

You would think Spfty should pay back half of his salary so far, as he can’t even play more than 6 games per season.

  12. Chris FWC Says:

    I miss the Rah verbiage.

Could Shiano please say we need fumble control or ‘fumtrol’?
    or ‘gap intergrity’, gaprity

  13. Snook Says:

Like I’ve said before, this season and next with Schiano will really prove how worthless Raheem was as a head coach and defensive coordinator in 2011.

  14. jvato24 Says:

Blaming GMC for being hurt is fair … But blaming him for his salary is just stupid … Eric Berry is the highest paid safety in the league, He missed all of last season. There was no option on what to pay GMC.

Just be happy the league actually fixed this or we would be paying even more this season. Its easy … DOnt suck and you dont have to pick in the top 5.

Curtis Lofton’s contract numbers are in. As we all know, the total numbers don’t really matter in today’s NFL contracts, rather how its structured.

5 years, 33.5 million, (7.8million guaranteed)! Of guaranteed money, 5 million signing bonus, 2012 salary $700,000, 2013 salary 1.1 million, end of year 2013 roster bonus of $5million, 2014 salary 1 million. More and more, really doesn’t matter.

What matters, IMO, is Saints can cut him after 2013, will have given him 7.8 million for 2 years of work, as a starting MLB, a pretty darn obvious and good bargain, that clearly DOMINIK’S EGO AND NEGOTIATING TACTICS, DEFIANCE were again evident.

Any Lofton naysayers, like him or not, to see the contract details that Lofton agreed to, and NOT AGREE that 7.8 milllion dollars for at least 2 years for a veteran starting MLB???!!!

    Dominik.

  16. 941-Bucs Says:

Everytime he talks i like what he has to say more and more. Go get Schiano!

  17. 941-Bucs Says:

    @bucbelevr

Main Factor? – it was Lofton’s CHOICE! Not ours. We gave him an offer. but he made it clear NO was the place he really wanted to go. Not to mention he prolly took a pay cut to play there.

If u look at all 3 of the FA’s we signed. Not one got a signing bonues. I don’t know how much that played in but that is another part of it.

    JVato,

Eric Berry suffered a torn ACL this past season, he didn’t tear his other ACL the season prior. Instead, Eric Berry went to a Pro Bowl.

    GMC #3 pick:

2 torn biceps in 2 years

    Eric Berry #5 pick:

Rookie pro bowler, and then a torn ACL this year.

My point is this, McCoy’s injuries are due to lacking upper body strength coupled with poor tackling technique.

Eric Berry was stout and a difference maker, he just tore his knee bc Buffalo’s Stevie Johnson blocked him low.

GMC needs to cut out all of the social media crap. He’s a nice dude, but before you can be “King of Tampa” you need to start puttin up #’s.

    Rock Star= Dom
    King of Tampa= GMC

  19. Capt. Tim Says:

All true. But still just coach speak.
I think the coach will be faced with a lot of early problems. But one of the worst, is fan base’s perception of this team

Usually, coming off a 4-12 season, you’d expect the fans to think the team is worse than it is.

Not here!! Read the post on this site!
“Quincy is a good LBer, just needs better coaching!
“Talib is an Elite talent, he gave up all those TDs, and then quit, because of the System!”

It goes on and on! Nobody here seems to think we have any bad players!!

That’s nothing but undeserved pressure, on a coach with enough on his plate already!!

  20. eric Says:

Captain u need to engage in the willing suspension of disbelief.

    Were talented damn it.

  21. jvato24 Says:

Quincy Black is the next Greg Lloyd !!

  22. jvato24 Says:

I have no issues with GMC .. He has played fairly well IMO when healthy … But if hes not healthy this season … That will probably be the end of the story

  23. tonytwocents Says:

Schiano’s just stating the obvious. I’m cracking up at the pic with the assistant coach mean muggin Sciano in the background. Doesn’t seem to be down with the “Rutgers Way”.

  24. OAR Says:

    Hey Capt
Last time I checked, quitting and not having talent are two different things.
BTW what’s with the Negative Nancy attitude lately?

  25. Bobby Says:

@Stevek….spoken like a guy who never watched film on GMC. I understand your opinion on GMC because of your love affair with Thomas 2.2 but you could try being rational sometime and actually go back and watch the guy on film. If you do that and still believe he’s missing tackles because of poor technique then we’ll just need to get you an appointment at Bausch & Lomb.

  26. Thomas2.2 Says:

    Bobby:

You are whacked out of your mind on your GMC analysis.

He didnt always get into the backfield and reroute plays to clay or bennett for the tackle – obviously you didnt watch the games.

Teams had their way with us defensively all year. Jahvid best had a big first three quarters in game 1 until they went to virtually all pass. The vikes were gashing us in the first half.

Get over your propaganda program for Gerald – everyone knows he has been a bust so far – if he doesnt wake up this year – bye bye!
