Report: Bucs Interested In Lumpkin Returning
March 12th, 2012A couple of days ago, Joe was sure Bucs fans had seen the last of Kregg Lumpkin in red and pewter.
However, veteran Bucs beat scribe Woody Cummings, of The Tampa Tribune, has unearthed word today that Lumpkin might return to Tampa Bay. It seems the Bucs didn’t give Lumpkin a restrticted free agent tender but aren’t ready to part ways.
Lumpkin’s agent, Hadley Engelhard, said the Bucs have expressed a desire to retain Lumpkin but decided against tendering him. Engelhard said Lumpkin will test the market but hopes to remain in Tampa.
Cummings also Tweeted the Bucs potentially would want Lumpkin to serve in a reserve back/third-down back role.
This tells Joe that Lumpkin’s play on special teams looks pretty good and Team Schiano/Dominik wouldn’t mind bringing Lumpkin back as quality training camp fodder. Joe will hope there are no higher hopes for Lumpkin.

AWE HELL NAH ! my day was going so good…
*FACEPALM*
March 12th, 2012 at 2:26 pm
NOOOOOOOOOO
March 12th, 2012 at 2:26 pm
This has rockhead’s fingerprints all over it, refusal to admit a mistake (allowing Caddy to walk and having only Lumpy as your third-down back/change of pace back).
If he is given a tender, Schiano will cut him training camp.
I don’t recall Lumpy doing anything on special teams.
March 12th, 2012 at 2:27 pm
Nothing wrong with Lumpkin in the correct role at the bottom of the roster. He’s not bad on ST.
March 12th, 2012 at 2:28 pm
Of course he wants to stay a Buc. It’s the only team out of 32 willing to even have him on the roster
March 12th, 2012 at 2:28 pm
The first and only time i agree with Tom tom!
March 12th, 2012 at 2:29 pm
As long as it’s ONLY for training camp fodder/tackle dummy and to provide water/bathroom breaks for the rest of the RB’s, I’m OK with it.
March 12th, 2012 at 2:29 pm
@ Dave D.
When exactly do you remember him being on the special teams?
March 12th, 2012 at 2:34 pm
and how long was it before “Mr August” got a shot at the field, granted they jumped the gun putting Lumpkin ahead of Caddy, but you never know who is going to excel and who isn’t.
March 12th, 2012 at 2:43 pm
Are they not watching film yet?
March 12th, 2012 at 2:46 pm
I don’t think Lumpkin ultimately gets a job with the Bucs, but if he does, wtf Dom.
March 12th, 2012 at 2:49 pm
Are you fu**ing kidding me???!? He must be blackmailing Dummynik because all Blumpkin is good at is the practice squad!!
March 12th, 2012 at 2:51 pm
WHY?!!?
Should’ve fired this dumb@ss Dominick.
This guy was a NOBODY from the scrap heap and played like one! Does this moron expect it to change?
Dom is no doubt involved in this.
March 12th, 2012 at 2:56 pm
Blount , Tolbert and a Speedy rb in the draft. Maybe Lumpkin lives on the practice squad.
March 12th, 2012 at 2:56 pm
Hence my ealier post. I really think us Bucs fans will be disappointed this week. We have NO idea what the coaches are seeing on film. And..oh yes….FILM DONT LIE.
March 12th, 2012 at 2:57 pm
If they keep him, but let Graham walk, I’ll be pissed. While he may old and fragile, Graham has talent! Pumpkin doesn’t!
March 12th, 2012 at 2:57 pm
Word just in the buds just signed lumpy to 4 years 20 mil with a signing bonus
March 12th, 2012 at 2:58 pm
Just hope this doesn’t mean they won’t go out there and get another RB
March 12th, 2012 at 2:59 pm
i just threw up in my mouth
March 12th, 2012 at 3:03 pm
At least Lumpkin isn’t blowing up teammates in Week 17 by running the wrong pass route like a certain overpaid tight end.
Yeah, I’m looking at YOU Sarge.
March 12th, 2012 at 3:05 pm
Sounds to me like an agent trying to draw interest. If they give him the minimum to be a part of the training camp fodder, so be it. IF he even makes the practice squad I’d be pissed.
They can draft a RB and get another undrafted RB to do a job as good as him and join special teams.
March 12th, 2012 at 3:05 pm
Don’t get all worked folks. If he was offered a restrticted free agent tender, then we’d be right in grabbing the pitchforks, but at this point, it’s just agent-speak. Doubtful he’ll be with team come opening day.
March 12th, 2012 at 3:06 pm
Joe likes to throw these little nuggets out there to rile the masses and keep the hits coming. 😉
March 12th, 2012 at 3:06 pm
Great to see that Dominik has a sense of humor. Who knew that underneath that stoic and almost expressionless personna was a comedian waiting to get out! The only way I can explain it!
March 12th, 2012 at 3:08 pm
So let me get this right. They didn’t tender him, so as of tomorrow afternoon he’s not a Buc, but since his agent says “blah, blah, blah……” poeple are mad at Dominik?
Give it a rest guys.
March 12th, 2012 at 3:10 pm
Dom – “Alright coach, Ill get you Nicks, Jackson, Finnegan, Carr and Tullock if you let me keep Lumpkin, because he’s my diamond in the rough and he will be a star even though nobody thinks so but me and it will prove how smart I are. PLEASE, PLEASE , PRETTY PLEASE!!!”
March 12th, 2012 at 3:18 pm
I believe FLBoy84 said before that this is likely. No big deal. I doubt he’ll make the cut.
March 12th, 2012 at 3:21 pm
Ya no… Let him ‘test’ the free agency
March 12th, 2012 at 3:24 pm
“Coming from his agent” Not buying it coming from his agent, just trying to make his client sound like hes important
March 12th, 2012 at 3:25 pm
Macabee, come to think of it, I have NEVER seen Mark Dominick Smile.
Perhaps he will now, with the great job he is doing lately.
Lumpkin is just a small cog in the wheel, and he can be forgiven for that, as long as he brings Tampa a winner with good free agents, and a great draft class.
March 12th, 2012 at 3:29 pm
@Macabee Says re Dom: “that stoic and almost expressionless personna”
Textbook rockstar qualities! lol
March 12th, 2012 at 3:32 pm
This is hopefully just agent talk. His client looks more desirous to other teams if his current team still wants him. Bucs won’t waste the roster spot for crap. Can’t wait till this site has news about actual new FA that the Bucs signed.
March 12th, 2012 at 3:39 pm
A bit early for April Fools!!!
March 12th, 2012 at 3:39 pm
LOL!!!
March 12th, 2012 at 3:39 pm
Did everyone see that the NFL just bitch slapped the Cowboys and Redskins for trying to “dump” salary in the uncapped 2009 year? Penalizing the cowboys $10 million in cap space, and the Redskins $36 million in Cap space. To make in fair for the players union, 28 other teams will get an additional $1.9 million in cap space this year. New Orleans and Raiders will not get the bonus for similar (but apparently not as blatant) tactics.
Yikes
March 12th, 2012 at 3:43 pm
According to PFF Tolbert has been “chatting away ,he would like to land with Bucs or Steelers”
Blount/tolbert bulldozing road grating power attack behind nicks may be for real..

March 12th, 2012 at 3:45 pm
T,i saw that and those are 2 teams that will push us for dbs and wry
March 12th, 2012 at 3:55 pm
good news for the bucs and their attempt to sign v jax. the money will probably go down now plus weve added another 1 plus million in our own cap space. win win win
March 12th, 2012 at 4:12 pm
look at all you guys jumping to conclusions. We “want Lumpkins back” and yet won’t tender him. Color me skeptical..if we really wanted Lumpkin we’d tender him. RFA/UDFA contracts are dirt cheap and prevent other teams from making a bid without giving up draft picks. Seems to me like the Bucs staff is just telling Lumpkin’s agent what he wants to hear to keep him as a backup plan.
March 12th, 2012 at 4:16 pm
Sike…
March 12th, 2012 at 5:15 pm
my only question is… WHY?
March 12th, 2012 at 5:21 pm
I don’t have an issue with this. Lumpkin was a rookie last year, wasn’t he? Let him battle for a job in camp. He did start getting the knack of things toward the end of the season…at least a little. Maybe Schiano has something specific in mind for him.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:43 pm
@ Pete
Lumpkin was no rookie.
March 12th, 2012 at 5:48 pm
I just threw up in my mouth
March 12th, 2012 at 5:50 pm
Yeah Pete, I luv ya man, but you’ve got to do a lil research sometime. This is a minor oversight, But Lumpkin has been in the league 3 years and this will be his 4th if he makes it and 3rd with the Bucs if he makes it with them. The Bucs got him from Greenbay.
March 12th, 2012 at 6:16 pm
At least bad news is before FA and not during.
It could be lip service too.
March 12th, 2012 at 6:36 pm
I was asking if he was, people. sheesh lol
March 12th, 2012 at 11:39 pm
HELL. NO.
March 13th, 2012 at 3:54 am
What a waste of money…
