The Bucs Have A New Coach!

Stop the Super Bowl hype! The Bucs have a wide receivers coach. Joe is giddy with excitement.
Actually, Joe isn’t that excited, but it’s at least a morsel of coaching news to gulp down as Greg Schiano continues to work alone at One Buc Palace.
Per BSPN, former 49ers wide receiver and Rutgers receivers coach P.J. Fleck will be the new mentor for Mike Williams, Arrelious Benn and friends.
Just 31 years old, is Fleck a good hire? Geez, Joe has no clue — and neither do you.
Here’s what Raheem Morris said about the last receivers coach, Eric Yarber, who joined the team before the 2010 season. It’s a classic Raheem quote, including a take on Chucky’s old receivers coach, Richard Mann, so Joe wanted to share.
“He’s got a nice bounce about him on the practice field. He’s got a nice bounce about him in the meeting rooms. His meeting rooms are very entertaining,” Raheem said of Yarber. “He brings back, for me being a head coach, when you walk in that room it kind of gets you back into that feel when you’re a [defensive backs] coach. You get to that room and the guys are there and they’re joking around and they’re working. You’re able to talk to the guys and they’re able to communicate back with you. You’re able to communicate with those guys. You’re able to learn from some of the older guys in that room. He’s able to comment. He’s talking about his experience from his playing days. It’s real nice. It’s a breath fresh air, you know, from what we had. Richard Mann was kind of the opposite. He was a set old back, laid back teacher, a fundamentalist core. You know, and he had a lot of great attributes, as well. But it’s a nice vibe when you go into that room and you see the guys really vibing, and really having that kind of energy chasing them down.”
All that “vibing” and “entertaining” was just great in 2010, and then 2011 was, well, a different story.
Joe suspects Fleck wasn’t hired by Schiano to vibe and entertain, though maybe he will. Joe can only hope the new guy is a great teacher who can command respect instantly.

I like the neither do you comment Joe, but I’m sure capt.Tim does! He doesn’t seem to understand good coaches can coach, period! No matter what level.

I have posted this before, and it seems appropriate again.
I cleaned the roof of the friend of a former high school coach of Regis Benn.
This Man lives up in Pasco County, and is a retired high school coach himself from the DC Area.
He told me Tampa has a real Gem in Regis Benn, we just need a better scheme, to get him more involved.
I am excited by what I read about Coach Schiano.
I could care less about the Super Bowl Game tomorrow, wish I could go into suspended animation, and wake up when it is football season again.
Of course, you could wake me up for the NFL Draft …..

Something tells me I should be cheering for this, but it just seems so oddly out of place given we have not named a DC or OC. Maybe there will be a delayed emotional response like that joke you hear and don’t start laughing until you’re in the car driving home!

Guess wait and see….just hope the OC and DC don’t come from Rutgers. Hope they give Al Saunders an interview but doubt it. Running out of quailty coordinators it seems like, but what do I know. I’m thinking if Davis was going to be our DC he woulf of by now. A couple names from out of no where, Dennis Green OC, Jim Fassel OC and if 49ers would allow us to interview D line coach Jim Tomsula for a DC. Again what do I know just some ideas?? Any comments, thoughts???

Let’s see. Fleck- went to Northern Illinios u. Not drafted. One year on IR with Forty Niners. Cut the next. Unpaid asst. at Niu. Paid asst at Niu. Receivers coach for one year at Rutgers. Offered job as O.C at NIU. Accepted, then quit the next day
32 years old.
And he will teach our young receivers to be pros. Something he has never been or ever coached before

I love the fleck hire. Yarber was Just like RahRah, no discipline whatsoever, complete hack.
The problem: we have 6 #3 receivers who are all equally pedestrian.

NFL offenses were complex enough that your hero coach allowed 42 points in 1.5 quarters. Want to bet that will never happen under Schiano?
I will go 100 to 1 that a Schiano team will never be down 42-0 after 3 quarters.

Schiano and his tiny little school only punked RahRah 38-10 last time they faced each other – I agree typically RahRah gets embarrassed worse than that. Mike smith, Jim Harbaugh, Del Rio all spanked RahRah worse but Schiano pulled starters and lifted off the reigns since it was a bowl game.

It is so obvious that Tim’s Schiano hate is fueled by his RahRah love.
Just let it go buddy, say three times – RahRah was the worst coach ever. We are much better off.

I agree with Capt. Tim. The guy didn’t even start coaching until 2007.
Eric Yarber was much more qualified than this guy was and we saw how that went.
They just better not f’k up the OC and DC hires.

I always thought Ike Hilliard would make a good coach, he was so clutch when he played here.
I see he was with the fins last year and now WR coach for skins.
As to the new guy, im with Joe- who the heck knows. I hope rock gets him more to work with.

I’m sorry guys but as much as I believe in good coaches, (HC, Coordinators, etc.) I think it’s all overated. Give me good players that execute the plays drawn and you have a winner. Period! We are spending too much time worrying about who the offense and defensive coordinators are. How much coaching do you think that peyton manning, drew brees, or even Brett Favre needed in his prime. I know we don’t have those guys but the emphasis should be placed on getting the best players we can on this roster.

So what, everyone going to start putting a 2.2 at the end of their name now? Come on Captain, you are better than that! I don’t give a damn if we hire Mickey Mouse to be our OC, I will never be as negative as that guy. If I did, I would find another team, or jump off a bridge, but I damn sure wouldn’t add a 2.2 (essentially making him your brother). I am completely sick to my stomach now.

Rod Merinelli and Mike Tomlin had a wealth of pro experience before joining the Bucs, actually they had none!
Can he teach? Can he motivate? That’s all I care about and none of y’all no either way
Also, about schemes, I bet you see more fronts in college week in and week out than the NFL. Especially in the smaller conferences you’ll see teams run a 5-2-4 or 4-4-3 as opposed to just 3-4 / 4-3. And on offense, forget about it! You could see true option one week, spread the next, pro style and hybrid no huttle. Don’t sell these college coaches short, the times are a changin’

Rod and Mike coached under Monte Kiffin, one of the best DC’s in history.
Whom Dungy made damn sure was on his staff along with Herm Edwards. They invented the Tampa 2.

None of this matters…..not at all.
What matters is getting assistants the Coach Schiano is comfortable with, Coordinators he can work with, that are on the same page and know who the boss is.
What matters is the players the Buccaneers decide to keep, who they successfully go after and sign in FA and who they draft.
I could care less if a 2.whatever approves or not. It’s amazing to me that anyone does. Coach Morris is gone, Coach Schiano is just getting started and I look forward to seeing what happens. High hopes based on being a fan of the Buccaneers and not negative fears based on the “opinions” of self proclaimed “experts” and totally out of the loop message board posters.
Actually, I think most fans are with me. It’s those who cry the loudest that make the most noise as always. They also matter the least as few of them ever set foot at the stadium anyway.

Ray Perkins was the worst coach ever. Stupidest human being I ever spoke to. He tried to turn Steve young into a Fullback, said he wouldn’t make it as a QB
