Anybody seen Gregg Rosenthal on T.V. with NBC Sports? This guy looks like he’s 12 years old. Pip squeak comes to mind when I see him.

  2. eric Says:

Bruce won the division twice in his tenure. Rockstar zero so far.

Any mistakes he made can surely be cured with four rockstar drafts……………………..McKay did it in four from ground zero.

    Lame excuse.

  3. Pete Dutcher Says:

    This cannot be true…

…I just heard that the Bucs are talking to Brian Billick to offer him a Coordinator position? I heard it from a neighbor who claims to have heard it from someone he knows. I would normally take this with a grain of salt…but my neighbor is a former Titans player…so he WOULD have connections.

  4. Pete Dutcher Says:

    @Eric
While I disagree with some claims that Dominick cannot draft well, I do feel his handling of coaches plain out sucks. I’m trying to give him benefit of the doubt, but it’s not easy.

  5. CrispyBuc Says:

Alex Marvez just tweeted the Bucs are interviewing John Shoop today. Anyboy know anything about him? Good, bad?

  6. Architek Says:

I thought this was a very good video because Florio clearly addressed every issue concisely and non-objectionably. First, the mere fact that Schiano did not have tremendous success against lesser teams and never reached a bowl game is something to watch. Also the blocking is normal but the Bucs should not have put themselves in this position when other coaches were out there. Meaning, their decision to hire a HC last and now fill their staff last is a microcosm of the bigger issue, PERECEPTION. You have to stop being last to do everything, get back in the race, and compete for everything as an organization.
I wish the Schiano family and coaching family the best success but they are at a severe disadvantage this season out the gates. The combine is soon, free agency, and installing a new system requires all of the coaches to be on the same page. That takes time and the Bucs are behind already. Florio pointed out something. The OC position is very intriguing because you need a guy that can come in and take some time to understand the personnel before the season. Let’s face the facts; the Bucs are already limited in explosive playmakers so they need someone that can configure an offense around whatever strengths they do possess. The clock is ticking and if the staff is not complete next week the Bucs may be looking at the #1 pick next year if I were a betting man, strictly on lack of preparation and talent.

“First, the mere fact that Schiano did not have tremendous success against lesser teams and never reached a bowl game is something to watch.”

What does this mean? Did he not win 6of 7 bowl games at Rutgers, including the last 5 in a row?

Take away his first 3 seasons and he had a tremendous record at Rutgers…. a program that came from NOTHING.

  8. CrispyBuc Says:

He also tweeted Jimmy Raye II has been hired as sr. offensive asst.

  9. Dave Says:

    @Pete Dutcher

If it is Billick, I would be great with that. The guy was always considered a great offensive guy. He was the TE coach and then OC with the Vikings most the 1990s when they were setting NFL scoring records.

Never fully got it going in Baltimore on offense, but they had the money tied up in defense and never had the QB.
He would have a QB here…. and money to spend (allegedly)

  10. SensibleBuc Says:

    @ CrispyBuc

We’re just digging a deeper hole at this point. First Ron Turner now John Shoop?

Creaky old Jimmy Raye to tell us how to play offense? C’mon man!

  11. CrispyBuc Says:

I just read about Jimmy Raye. Seriously?
    I hope it’s all rumor.

  12. ALSTOTTSMART! Says:

    DC – Butch Davis
    OC – Brian Billick

If this were to happen, I would enjoy my coke, smile, and STFU.

  13. Patrick Says:

Why do the Glazers and Dom have to take this f**king long to hire a coach? You don’t have to interview so many damn candidates….interview the ones that are actually GOOD candidates! Time is actually an issue here Dumbinik……why does every other team have their coaches in place and ready to go for the offseason…..but we’re still dragging ass?

And just like they did with Raheem, they’re setting Schiano up for failure too. Our division rivals got better (like always) by hiring Spags and Nolan. Doesnt seem like we’re going to end up with a decent staff from the way it’s looking. Another thing Schiano will have to worry about……bad enough he has little NFL experience as it is.

  14. jvato24 Says:

John SHoop is the OC for UNC right now. He was the guy Butch Davis hired.

  15. stevek Says:

    Well put ASTOTTSMART,

I would partake in the same, and keep my fingers crossed that the Bucs will start using some CAP SPACE on WORTHY FA’s.

  16. Patrick Says:

Comment directed towards Dominick for taking a long time to hire Schiano……but also towards Schiano because lack of time we now have and his desire to bring in college coaches or just bad candidates

  17. ALSTOTTSMART! Says:

Ron Turner actually replaced John Shoop as OC in Chicago.

  18. Ian P. Says:

I think Florio misses a greater point though. The Bucs job is just not very appealing to a college coach who is in a comfortable place making decent money. For the past few years the Glazers have shown that they are not interested in spending the money it takes to win – whether it be on a coaching staff or players. Now, whether that’s technically true or not doesn’t matter. It’s the perception that this is a “cheap” franchise. College head coaches make VERY good money, and have pretty good job security. I think that among coaches, Mark Dominik has a terrible reputation. People who know football know that Dominik should have been fired as well, and at best he won’t be around much longer. It’s not a pretty situation.

  19. stimpy Says:

    Patrick,

You cant blame Chiano. He was brought in late. This is on ‘Rock Star” and da boyz.

  20. lightningbuc Says:

    @petedutcher,

Are you sure it wasn’t Apple Roof Cleaning that told you that about Billick?

  21. Dave Says:

I don’t get them being blocked.

I know they blocked the LB coach one year but that was because most their staff was just gutted, they wanted to have some stability.

Kiffin was never blocked for a HC coach as far as I remember, plus I didn’t think you could do that.

McNulty I understand, unfortunately. Alot of people have him pegged as the next good OC, so AZ wanted to keep him.

Anyway, if they end up with Shoop… so be it. I don’t know him.
I hope they got Butch Davis lined up at DC, that tie in would make sense.

Besides, it is looking like they are going towards a pound the rock offense with short passes and trying to get strong on defense.
Fine with me as long as they take their shots downfield.

If you watch NE, they are a short passing team who tries to run some and then takes the occasional shot.

  22. Pete Dutcher Says:

    @lightningbuc
Not unless Apple is my neighbor and is a huge black man…and I mean HUGE. Dude looks like he could bench press a truck. Got a gut too.

  23. Daniel Says:

    Peter Dutcher,

I hope thats true, Billick has a ton of experience. I think he would be a great offesive cordinator for our young team.

  24. bucfat Says:

i lost faith in my bucs, i cant see us ever winning.

butch Davis as DC? bad idea. he’s not that good.

Brian Billick, doesn’t want to coach at this time and why would he come to Tampa? be realistic.

  25. mike Says:

    wow.. 0-11 to west va!!!

  26. Commentator Says:

Pickings are mighty slim. Glazers/Dominick need to reach deep.
