“The Glazers Are Great Folks”
January 19th, 2012Joe caught up with Bucs coaching candidate Brad Childress this afternoon. Childress is in town and was coaching his squad in the East-West Shrine Game at practice at St. Petersburg High School.
Childress suggested that the long process the Bucs have taken in their search to replace jettisoned head coach Raheem Morris is exactly what he expected.
Why? Because Team Glazer told him so.
Here are just a couple of questions Childress was asked:
Some have said the Bucs job is not an enviable one given how many holes the team needs to fill and the tough division that the NFC South is. What’s your reaction?
There is only 32 head coaching jobs in the National Football League. I have always said it’s important to work with good people. All indications are the Glazers are great folks, so it’s a good job.
Have you heard from the Bucs in last 48 hours?
I haven’t. Just trying to get [players in the East-West Shrine Game] up for Saturday.
If you weren’t [occupied with coaching the East-West Shrine Game], would you be frustrated with the wait?
[The Glazers] advertised their process. I mean, they were completely candid and accurate in what they said and they said it would be a while.

And we are “waiting” for what?
The Glazers are CHEAP Folks, Joe.

I’m tired of the crap that this isn’t a desirable job. There’s only 75 people living in the world right now that can say they’ve coached in the NFL. There are hundreds of coaches that would want this job.
Ron and Ian even mentioned the Cowboys job as being better job; while that might be true for brand name, no sensible coach would want to be Jerry’s puppet. Spare me the hysteria and hyperbole.

@kh Well said! As for Chilly, thanks, but no thanks.

January 19th, 2012 at 11:28 pm
Off course Childress would say that.. can’t you tell from his bald head and his glasses he’s related to the glazers? Duhhh….
January 19th, 2012 at 11:34 pm
I think the Glazers are big jokes!
January 19th, 2012 at 11:34 pm
No chilly, full of beans, not enough meat, needs more spice
January 19th, 2012 at 11:38 pm
I wonder if the glazer boys realize just how poorly the bucs are looked at in this community. My lifelong bucs friends don’t even wanna talk about em. I went to lunch
today and the table next to me was laughing hysterically about the bucs.
The public perception is as bad as I’ve seen it since 76.
They better do SOMETHING and chilly or Sherman damn sure aint it!
January 19th, 2012 at 11:56 pm
The Buc organization has become the laughing stock of the NFL. No more Ozzy for their intro’s. Its yakati saks from here on out. Hey maybe Chilli could run around the field while it plays.

Little off subject but. Olsen hired by Jags as QB coach and ASST. HC ?? Did they watch this team this year? Oh that’s right . That was a disaster!! Glad you got a job coach.

An acquaintence of Joe’s was one of if not the biggest Bucs fans Joe had ever met. Owned season tickets, wouldn’t dare think of missing a game. Even went to road games. Grew up in St. Petersburg a diehard. Dude was hardcore.
Last year, he admitted to me he didn’t watch half of the Bucs TV games. He no longer owns season tickets. Dude told me if Mike Sherman is hired, he will wash his hands of the team.
January 20th, 2012 at 1:12 am
That wouldn’t have anything to do with any negative direction you might steer such conversations, would it?
Everyone who is freaking out….shut up. It takes as long as it takes. When all is said and done, you”ll find yourself eating crow over your current behavior.
January 20th, 2012 at 1:27 am
Gods help us if Chilly is the hire.
January 20th, 2012 at 3:24 am
“Dude told me if Mike Sherman is hired, he will wash his hands of the team.”
Then let him! You call that guy a fan Joe?
I don’t understand why everyone is so afraid of Sherman! What does everybody hate this guy?? I don’t think he’s really great either, but the guy WAS a successful coach in Green Bay and won a lot of games. Quit pulling the “he had Favre” crap too. Holmgren did too. Does anyone bash him?
Oh, but he didn’t get to a conference championship with Favre.
Yeah, because of a miracle 4th and 26 conversion by Donovan McNabb! The Eagles got lucky that night.
January 20th, 2012 at 5:59 am
@Joe
Sounds to me like he already has washed his hands. Though…even going to away games would be hard.
January 20th, 2012 at 6:27 am
The problem is he let Favre run the team. He publicly went down to Mississippi in the team jet and begged him to QB his championship-ready team. They were ready, Favre brought them to the brink, and Favre-d it up.
He does hire great coordinators.
January 20th, 2012 at 6:30 am
Patrick,
Sherman took Holmgrens good team and turned them in to 4-12 within 5 years. No thanks, we need the francise turned the right direction, Hire Marty and let him get started fixing this mess.
January 20th, 2012 at 7:58 am
Marty damn it!
January 20th, 2012 at 8:42 am
is that tony kornheiser’s brother ?
January 20th, 2012 at 9:32 am
Jim Fassel, like Marty, is/was head coaching the Vegas UFL team. Marty won the UFL championship last year, as head coach of the Virginia team.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:59 am
Joe did his warmth and charisma come across in person as well as it does through the media?
January 20th, 2012 at 12:15 pm
eric:
Pretty stiff but Joe was able to dig out a good sarcastic sense of humor deeply buried behind his brick wall. We actually had a few laughs. Really.
