Team Glazer “Sold” On Mark Dominik
January 7th, 2012Joe finds it amusing in a scary way that since Raheem Morris was jettisoned by Team Glazer suddenly Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik has somehow become evil incarnate to Bucs fans.
Bucs fans, it seems, will either have to deal with Dominik or find something else to hate, so NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas wrote in an ESPN chat yesterday.
Charles (San Francisco)
Hey Pat, Happy New Year. Pat are you surprised Mark Dominik survived? And though the coaches took the fall, how much did the players immaturity and lack of veteran leadership resulted in the inability to stop the bleeding?Pat Yasinskas
Not surprised at all. Remember, Bucs gave Dominik a four-year contract extension last offseason. All they did with Raheem was pick up his two-year option. That right there tells me that, even after 10-6, they were sold on Dominik, but still weren’t sure about Raheem.
The fact Team Glazer reupped Dominik for four years tells Joe he is doing what Team Glazer wants him to do.
Sorry, but Joe just doesn’t get the vile that is all of a sudden built up for Dominik. But it seems Bucs fans just have to hate someone. First it was Barrett Ruud (who was unjustly crucified in this town) and once he was gone it turned to Morris (justly) and now that Morris is out of town the hate is now targeted for Dominik.
January 7th, 2012 at 10:29 am
That is because Dominik is viewed as being nothing more than a puppet for the Glazers, a good soldier so to say, there to maintain control of their tight budget. He and is bosses are evil incarnate in many fans minds!

I agree with joe.i really dont have a problem with Dom.he has a pretty good hit miss record on talent.some of the guys coached up the right way may turn out to be studs.the one question i would ask was whos descision was it to part with tyrone mckenzie?dude was$$$ and should have got his shot.i actually think dom does a solid job balancing long term cap affect with win now/build for later strategy.imo
January 7th, 2012 at 10:37 am
@joe.. You don’t get the vile? Have you seen the comments. The guy is a massive failure as a GM. The Glazers are only proving their cheap and are not doing whatever it takes to put a winner on the field. The fans know that Dominik deserved blame as much as Raheem. Not to mention the coaching search will be limited cause he is the GM. There are at least two GM’s out there that give the Bucs a better chance at building a winner. The Bears ex GM (Angelo) and the Colts ex GM (Polin . If the Bucs cared they would have hired either one that would improve a 100% over anything Mark can do. The route the Glazers are taking is only going to turn more fans against them and demand them to sell the team to someone that really cares.
January 7th, 2012 at 10:42 am
being gm on a team that loses ten straight in your third year at the helm will do that.
glazers endorsement isnt so soothing as they hired raheem too.
vile would subside with the hiring of a good coach.
and some results on the field rather than good drafter fantasies.

“The fact Team Glazer reupped Dominik for four years tells Joe he is doing what Team Glazer wants him to do.”
Joe, I totally agree. Glazer went cheap, no big money for FAs. But remeber, they gave him lattitude at first. He threw over $20 million at Downfield Blocker Clayton. He did offer huge money to Haynesworth. Then they reigned Dominick in.
I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone is angry about ‘this and that’, meanwhile the Glazers are calling Cowher’s agent making big overtures. They did the same with Chucky. We all thought the Chuck deal was dead, then they said we have an announcement at 1pm. Refreshed my screen and there was Chuckie. I know it is a longshot, but these guys have thrown Hail Mary passes before. If they can get Cowher, Dominick is either gone or neutered and locked in a cage.

I lack the mental dexterity to conclude that a really good GM assembled the team i saw play the last ten games.
I also have difficulty absolving him entirely from the horrific coaching as the allegedly good GM seleted much of that staff.
I do concede he selected some young players that showed a lot in 2010. Last years draft appears to be a good one.
Joe could be right here. a bit flippant but possibly right. I gotta see way more results to conclude the guy is a good GM and I think bucs fans have every right to be highly skeptical.
If I see mike Sherman at the podium at one bucs place soon i will be extremely dissapointed.
Im rooting for the Hail Mary too.
January 7th, 2012 at 11:45 am
Don’t forget, it was only a year ago that we were all pissed he lost out on the Exec. of the year award. If Freeman/Williams/Blount can return to 2010 form under a new coach everyone will be all over Dom again. Make up your minds, people.
January 7th, 2012 at 11:57 am
Joe you refuse to acknowledge the vast sea of options between hate anx rock star.
Most of dont hate Dom just object to your nonsensical portrayal of him.
The team he has presided over is in total disarray, an abject failure – yet you and the Glazers expect us to celebrate him and have confidence in him. Senseless.
I dont hate him, dont even want him fired but do want truth and not spin when it comes to him. I have no doubt that he is acting glazerlike – prioritizing saving money – but if a gm is 17-31, no playoffs, no pro bowl draft picks, that can never equal rockstar.
January 7th, 2012 at 11:57 am
We can be skeptical, rant and rave and the like…..it’s part of the deal.
But if the Glazers like, respect and trust Mark Dominik he stays and I can’t blame them for that.
I believe Mark can do better and will, working with a qualified HC and more CAP money.
There are some positives in term of the draft, namely #5.
Let’s wait and see.
IF it is Mike Sherman, I can assure you I won’t be cancelling my season tickets over it. And to the few that really have them and do? Thanks! Upgrades are always appreciated by those in it for the long haul.
These are exciting times, a time for optimism IMO. Those who choose to remain negative without even giving a new HC a chance if they don’t “like” him are 2.2’s all over again and royal PITS’s IMO
Hop aboard and fasten your seat belts folks, it’s going to be a fun and bumpy ride!

RD 7 Sammie Stroughter: ZERO production
2010:
RD 1 Gerald McCoy: injured more than he plays…looks like a bust at this point
RD 2 Brian Price: Decent starter but nothing special, injury prone

RD 3 Myron Lewis: ZERO production
RD 4 Mike Williams: no. 2 WR at best…not a number TRUE number 1 option
RD 6 Brent Bowden: ZERO production
RD 7 Cody Grimm: Decent starter, would be a backup on most teams
RD 7 Dakota Watson: ok backup nothing special
RD 7 Eric Lorig: backup FB at best
2011:
RD 1: Adrian Clayborne: quality starter
RD 2: DaQuan Bowers: quality starter

RD: 7: Gaitor: Zero production
RD 7: Hardy: Zero Production
Dom has been terrible as I don’t see ONE pro bowl player drafted
January 7th, 2012 at 12:21 pm
Hey Joe isn’t the “Rockstar” moniker just a smartassed Pun or tongue-n-cheek joke? Or are the haters right that you love this guy? Thought it was a Pun.
January 7th, 2012 at 12:23 pm
Besides a poor overall draft record, he let Caddy go, replaced him with Lumpkin, Let Ruud walk with no ready replacement, make stupid free agent choices, and awarded huge contracts to below average players. Both Bates and Jagodzinski were mistakes (he hired them), and then he fired and replaced the O Line Coach from a 10 and 6 team.
He worked under 3 different General Managers who left Tampa for better jobs, and NONE chose to take him along with them. That alone should tell you something ?
Raheem has had plenty of Interest from other NFL Teams, despite his record.
The rest of the NFL realizes that even Vince Lombardi could not win with the players Mark Dominik has assembled here.
I just wish Raheem would speak up, instead of being such a gentleman, and put the blame on Mark Dominik, where it belongs.
The REAL bad thing is that there are 2 PROVEN General Managers out there, Jerry Angelo, and Bill Poilan, who are proven builders of competitive NFL Teams.
But the Glazer kids and Mark Dominik basically grew up together, and are close friends, so we are stuck with him, until and unless they sell the team.
But still, if we get a coach that has final say on player choices, and the Glazers open their wallets and minds to wisely chosen free agents, we will get better. Heck, we can’t get any worse!
January 7th, 2012 at 12:30 pm
Apple…will you stop cutting and pasting that stupid post….we get it…you think there is not talent on this team. Go root for the Falcons. Half the guys you mentioned have had such limited playing time that no one knows whether they are good or bad. Many that you did mention might turn out to be quality players with the proper coaching and the right system. Ever seen guys get traded to another team and turn out to be studs in a different environment. No….you probably haven’t… but it happens. Evaluating talent is not your strong suit. Let’s see what a good coach can do with some of these guys before you write them all off.
January 7th, 2012 at 12:39 pm
And Joe proves once again that he has a massive man crush on Duminik.
January 7th, 2012 at 12:47 pm
Nobody is perfect in this business and MD has had his share of mistakes but he must prove his mettle and bring in a solid coaching staff and quality free agents. That is the mark of a good GM and during his tenure, the bucs have been a revolving door for players and coaches.
He didn’t handle the firing of Rah well IMO. I wanted to see him give an honest assessment of the state of the franchise and shouldered more blame for the meltdown.
Go do your job MD. The next hire will tell everyone what kind of character this organization has.
January 7th, 2012 at 12:50 pm
I do not agree with Apples assessment above. This team has talent, but zero leadership (see Hardy Nickerson’s comments)
January 7th, 2012 at 12:53 pm
The Glazers were also “sold” on Rah and we see what that got us – WAY behind Carolina in the division.
Look, i am fine with giving Dom a shot without Rah ruining the team. But to say that there is any proof that he is competent requires a creative imagination. A coach with a backbone would help.
January 7th, 2012 at 1:13 pm
MD is not going anywhere…what don,t you folks get about that. He is on solid footing with the Owners and is their guy going forward. Rah was a mistake for sure…but MD had little or no say in that move. Just here is your coach go get em.
January 7th, 2012 at 2:01 pm
Bobby, the teams record supports my assessment of the Talent and lack of depth Mark Dominik has provided.
Neither Jim Bates ( a proven defensive coordinator) or Raheem could do much with what they had to work with.
IMHO, it is not just a “coaching problem”. Game Films reveals us being dominated physically on both sides of the ball.
I saw this right away when New England manhandled us in preseason, but was told to “shut up” since it was only preseason.
The FEW games we did win were just barely, and the losses (blowouts) revealed us to be non competitive.
I love my team, but I see a lot wrong with us.
Quick, tell me Bobby, wouldn’t you rather have Jerry Angelo or Bill Poilan vs Mark Dominik ?
PROVEN GM’s with a track record of building winning teams.
WTF has Mark Dominik ever done to deserve to be GM of the Bucs or any NFL team, except brown nose the Glazers.
After all the good people of Tampa did to keep the Bucs here, I think the Glazers owe us something better then this charade.
January 7th, 2012 at 2:21 pm
I’m fine with Dominik. I think he is brilliant at getting talent out of late rounds. The problem was absolutely coaching. It took me a long time to truly see how bad the schemes were on defense…(I knew offensively it was bad since last year) and when I saw Sean Jones stay on the field instead of trying Agmad Black and Biggers stayed in instead of getting Gaitor in there who I still think is going to be very good. No ability to adjust. Our LB’s are atrocious outside of Foster who should be playing OLB not MLB. I’m not saying we don’t have needs because we do but but what you don’t seem to grasp is that when you build through the draft it takes 3-4 years to get the players in place and then you fill in the gaps with FA. We didn’t just build through the draft….we started from scratch doing it. Still, there’s no denying we have talent. We had the talent to beat the Saints and the Falcons so the talent is there. With proper coaching I think we’ll see a much improved team even without personnel changes but with an influx of FA’s and a good draft I think we’ll be competitive next year. I don’t think we’ll see the blowouts when we do lose.
January 7th, 2012 at 2:22 pm
That’s ‘Ahmad’ Black…..
January 7th, 2012 at 3:46 pm
Satchel Paige, a baseball pitcher, from an era gone by once said “Don’t look back because the SOBs may be gaining on you!” Look forward and reality will tell the story. There are only the Glazers and Mark Dominik sitting alone at One Buc Palace. There is sagebrush and tumbleweeds rolling through the coaches quarters over there. We are soon to get a new coach and staff looking at a 2012 schedule that includes the NFC-East, NFC-West, and the tough and getting tougher NFC-South. Morris is long gone and there will be no doubt about who put the product we see on the field and the win/loss record that ensues. Be patient my friends, and don’t look back! Every opinion, doubt, belief, question will be answered in the proverbial twinkling of an eye!

While these # are far from Canton they are not all “Zero Production” as you so kindly put it. We all look at the world with “our” own rose colored glasses, but to not say that these guys contributed something is just wrong, with the exception of Fulton who blew his knee out in training camp. I won’t do the next two seasons because I can see where your coming from, but only to a point. I am 6’4 240lbs and I KNOW I cant get out there and play with these guys good or “Zero Production” players. Get over it
January 7th, 2012 at 5:35 pm
THIS JUICE BOX HERO GM SIGNED QLBERT HAYNESWORTH.
JOE QUIT CALLING THIS JOKER A “Rockstar”.
GMC IS 8th highest paid player in the game.
He resigned Quincy.
He is a mere puppet of these CHEAP @SS OWNERS.
CAROLINA IS BETTER THEN US BC THEY SPENT ON FA.
January 7th, 2012 at 6:58 pm
Rusty, I guess it amounts to what circles you run in. In my circle of sports fans, we see Mark Dominik as a problem, and some of us see him as THE problem.
It’s all good, we all love the Bucs, and want to see our team improve, and be competitive. Of course, all of us will never agree on the best way to do it.
Thomas 2.2 has pointed out that we hear very little negative here on JBF about Mark Dominik from Joe. Yet, the sports journalism world is awash with stories like this about Mediocre Mark http://tampa.cbslocal.com/2012/01/06/bucs-gm-dominik-should-be-marked-man/
Though I do not agree with Joe about the Mark Dominik situation, I do agree with him about plenty of other things. Actually, I hope Joe is right about the players Mark Dominik acquired just needing better coaching, for that would mean a faster return to competitiveness for Tampa Football.
I need for the Bucs to start winning again, much more then I need to be “right”.
I hope I am wrong about Mark Dominik, but this is how I see things.
January 7th, 2012 at 8:08 pm
Glazer coaching interview:
Mark: “{Coach} How much money are you looking for?”
{Coach}: “2.5 million a year”
Joel: “Pesos?”
{Coach}: “No, dollars.”
Brian: “Thanks, {coach}, we will get back with you.”
January 7th, 2012 at 8:42 pm
Glazer coaching interview:
“Who do you run with, respect and go to for sound advice when it comes to running a professional football team?”
(Coach) “Why I go to the guy who cleans my roof! He’s got his ears in the chimney and hears all KINDS of relevant things I can use.”
(Joel…….or Bryan) “Chimney’s…………..here in Tampa?”
(Coach) “I think so……..I’ll ask Apple. He’ll know and tell me. Again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.”
January 7th, 2012 at 8:57 pm
I wish the Bucs were sold to the DeBartalo’s. Dominick sucks at evaluating talent. Domicks presence at the GM position is pushing legitimate HC candidates from interviewing for the position.
January 7th, 2012 at 9:02 pm
Joe is madly in love with Dom. Which is good, because none of the rest of us are.
January 8th, 2012 at 1:37 am
I find it extremely funny that we all make statements on the Buccaneers (and Mark Dominik) based on assumptions. Do we know for sure if Dominik even wanted to hire Morris? Do we know the Glazers don’t want to spend money (how much money did they spend on the new OBP)? How do we “know” Dominik hired Bates and Jags? If you read a comment by another poster stating a “fact” – do you question the poster’s credibility before adding to the drama and/or creating childish nicknames? Just questions I ask sometimes while I read these comments.
