Schiano Also Close To Tom Coughlin

January 27th, 2012

Popcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingbeer-chugging Peter King of Sports Illustrated, and some exotic looking babe named Maggie Gray talk about the Greg Schiano hire in the SI.com video.

King seems to think Bill Belicheat’s endorsement weighed very heavily on the Bucs’ heirarchy. King also tries offer sage-like wisdom on this year’s coaching hires across the NFL.

    Good stuff!
I happen to respect King and am certainly glad he’s on board with the Schiano hire here.

  2. Cmurda Says:

I want Maggie Gray as our Offensive Coordinator.

  3. Thomas 2.2 Says:

    Stop making the association argument.

I remember how foolish it was when Joe and others were arguing that Rah was a legitimate coaching hire, in part, bc he vacations with Mike Tomlin. That was actually the subject of an article – as if being buddies with Tomlin somehow made him the equivalent of Tomlin.

All anyone has to do is listen to Tomlin and RahRah speak and it becomes very obvious that one is brilliant and one, well, isnt.

The same goes for Schiano: it doesnt matter if King or Bellichick like or approve him – all that matters is that he has the competency and talent. If schiano is in charge of talent, he will be fine. If the Glazers allow the glorified mail clerk to make decisions or if they continue to tighten the purse strings – we may struggle.

  4. Fear The Glow Says:

Live Schiano press conference on Buccaneers.com right now. FYI

I like what he’s selling so far. Talib should be worried. This guy seems to take trust and accountability pretty damn serious.

  5. Cmurda Says:

Well 2.2 if you are listening to the press conference, it should be obvious that Schiano Paisano is the real deal. I like him more and more in each passing minute. I heart Schiano.

  6. flmike Says:

I’m sold, until I’m not…if he came into my living room to recruit my kid, I wouldn’t hesitate.

  7. Garv Says:

Nice press conference, liked hat I heard. IMO this man is the real deal and no more nonsense will be tolerated.
he wants to be here and most of us want him here. Some players had better get their act together and “associate” with the new Head Coach.

This a the start of something special and I am thrilled.

  8. gotbbucs Says:

The morons on the team that can’t stay out of trouble and can’t wake up in time to get to meetings in time may as well head down right now and clean their lockers out.

No more bullsh!t. I love it.

  9. Thomas 2.2 Says:

Watched the Presser, very impressed! This guy is a football coach.

No mentions of bulldogs, grandmas or attempts to insert Y in front of his words.

You wont see Schiano “hanging out” with the players. He will be “carving out” undisciplined players.

I also liked how he was nice with regard to Freeman but he didnt start out by attempting to kiss his a– like Rah and Dom always did. Free will be treated like any other employee.

Look out kids – there is a Man in the house again!

  10. eric Says:

Excellent first impression, very well done.

And, as a refreshing bonus, I fully understood what he was talking about!

    Been a long time!

  11. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Schiano will do fine in Tampa, but it may take a couple years to get the team where he wants it. Instead of getting the least out of his players, like Raheem, he will get the most out of them…or they won’t be here. It’s obvious from his press conference that he has the mental makeup and capacity to do this the right way.

  12. Joe Says:

    Thomas 2.2:

No mentions of bulldogs, grandmas or attempts to insert Y in front of his words.

LOL Thomas, are you the notorious @sternfan10 on Twitter? Badgering Jenna Laine, nearly provoking the girl to block you?

  13. gotbbucs Says:

I would expect Talib and Jackson to be called to the office rather soon to have a little coming to Jesus talk. Either get with the program or get the hell out of the way.

I don’t expect there to be a ton of retreads or big names for assistant coaches. They are going to get alot of guys that Schiano is comfortable and familiar with so there’s no chances for misunderstandings.
It’s a new culture now and I couldn’t be happier with that. Honesty, Trust, and Accountability. Imagine those three things being part of a successful organization. Who woulda thunk it?

  14. jimmy Says:

You wonder if that chickenspit K2 who was running wrong routes in the final game of the season (!) is out the door after crying to Adam Schein about not getting the coach he wanted?

That’s another disease that needs to be cleansed from the locker room.

  15. Jampersands Says:

Joe, I think you and I have a different definition of exotic.

I’d say she qualifies as exotic in…Iowa?

  16. Aceofaerospace Says:

Well, I’m cautiously excited about this hire and can’t wait to see the staff he puts together. But I do have a question, if by some miracle, and I do mean miracle, the Bucs win the Super Bowl next year, do we have to hear, yeah but he did it with Raheem’s team?

  17. Capt.Tim Says:

He was spewing the company line about-” draft and improve” when questioned about Free agency!

Either Dom got to him already, or he’s reviewed Dim’s piss poor record at Signing Veterans

Either way, he’s selling the company

That sucks. Was hoping for a coach with the freedom to aquire plays thru all available means. Sounds like more if the same

Other than that, he sounded like he has a plan. Hope it works. Big transition from lil Rutgers to The NFL

  18. sandbagrudy Says:

I hope this solves the problem with stopping the run and creating a consistant pressure package from the D line. only one player on the present roster showed up for the press conference Freeman. He didn’t respond to free agency question got kind of joe cooperate. what ever the case the filtering out process is going to be interesting who going and who’s coming. The business transaction should be quite interesting

  19. big007hed Says:

Freeman, Blount, Benn, and Grimm were there plus Mike Alstott…. he just got there what did you want him to say in regards to free agency? “We are going after this player and that player” …. Man some of you guys need to slow down

  20. Capt.Tim Says:

No, I expect him to say” Free agency is an avenue we intend to explore”. Not the same failed retoric I’ve been listening to for 3 yearsp

  21. Cmurda Says:

    Capt Tim,

The Glazers have already said they will be exploring free agency. The guy hasn’t even had his first taste of Tampa Poon. Gotta let him breathe before we know exactly how we will proceed.
