“I’m Not Buying”
January 17th, 2012Is the buzz around Mike Sherman as the frontrunner for the Bucs’ head coaching gig the biggest Bay area smokescreen since Byron Leftwich?
NBC Sports mogul Mike Florio, creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com, seems to think so. During an on-air chat today with the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig of WDAE-AM 620, Florio said he’s sure Sherman is not the Bucs’ main man in the race.
“I’m not buying,” Florio said.
Joe hardly drove off U.S. Hwy. 19 into a ditch when he heard this. Sherman is hardly inspiring, though Joe doesn’t consider him too old — Sherman’s only 17 months older than Mike Zimmer — and he’d probably come to Tampa with a solid staff.
With the Colts joining the head coaching search today, Joe’s interested to see if Sherman is on their radar.

Can’t see why anyone would be interested in this guy.

This coaching search is pathetic. From the looks of it I think were going to hire our coach 2 days before the draft in APRIL!! OH the glazers wont rush…..Great were going to get the cream of the crop right? NOPE were going to get the guy that nobody else looks at and the cheapest guy. And if Indy looks at Sherman look for him to drop of the bucs radar because we dont want to hve to offer him more if indy really wants him. Just like the season this is a joke! We were all so exited RAHEEMS GONE!!!! Now we can get a coach within a couple weeks a start fresh!! but no!! Top guys gone (Jeff Fisher) Zimmers getting a 2nd interview with miami! We all want Marty but nobodys listening. Ok now were going to interview Clements great but lets not get exited its only January we dont need a coach until well……I guess April?

I don’t understand the Sherman hatred. I want Schottenheimer, but would be ok with Sherman.

Meanwhile all the good coordinators are being gobbled up.
January 17th, 2012 at 10:01 pm
One thing that may be occurring is some of the interviewees-like chilly and clements may be coordinator candidates after hc is hired.
Even Sherman could be a coordinator like he did for Texans.
It is a most interesting way to proceed.
Joe its been opined on here that the bucs couldn’t hire elements as their oc. Is that true? I understood teams can only block a lateral hire.
January 17th, 2012 at 10:02 pm
Clements not elements..
January 17th, 2012 at 10:40 pm
The Glazers need a CEO to run the team.
January 17th, 2012 at 10:46 pm
Jim Bates is still availible cheap too!!!
January 17th, 2012 at 11:20 pm
The Glazers are just waiting for all the high priced quality coaches to be taken. Then they will be all in on the last resort HC. Not buying the Glazers bs.
January 17th, 2012 at 11:45 pm
Sherman isn’t on anybodies radar. Nobody even remembered he coached in the nfl till the glazers interviewed him.
January 17th, 2012 at 11:58 pm
Jim bates wtf hell no

The Glazers don’t have the time, nor the goodwill, to convince the people of Tampa to trust them with someone with a poor track record – they MUST hire a legitimate head coach prospect.
Marty Schottenheimer could be that guy – but his name doesn’t inspire fans (i.e. ticket sales – which is what this is ALL about). He knows how to build a winner – sometimes heavy handidly: rebuilding when it doesn’t really have to, it’s just that Marty wants it that way. It COULD be Schotty.
Zimmer – excellent defensive football coach would generate excitement in a traditionally defensive minded football town. Factor in the first and second rounders all over the key spots of the defense over the past several years – and you have a desirous coach, matched to a desirous team…ipso facto It SHOULD be Zimmer.
I could really make a case for Perry Fewell (I rank him just above Zimmer), but that might take another couple of weeks and “canadianbuc” might have a stroke…
God forbid we take a little time getting it RIGHT this time…

Clements definitely would have to have a contract that considers Assistant HC as a promotion or the Pack could elevate his status in order to block the semi-lateral move. Isn’t that how Chucky got Muir by making him AHC/ Oline? The Glazerhouses just need to get on the ball and make something happen before it becomes a detriment to our off season. Sans my friggen nerves.
January 18th, 2012 at 7:41 am
Clements is a qb coach right??? So hire him as oc is not a lateral move.hiring him as a qb coach would be.so zimmer hc and clements oc would work.it is a step up not lateral.

Fyi-yahoo sports is reporting that we have already spoke with philbin and denver oc mccoy.that name for our job is a new one that slipped by all of the reporting.please let miami hire them both.

Some of you people just love to bitch with no real reasoning behind your rants. “The Glazers are just waiting till all the good coordinators are taken and we get the cheap one.” Brilliant line of thought there….lets just rush through the process and pick the coordinator YOU think is the best one because we all know…YOU are the best at judging talent. “We all want Marty but nobody’s listening!!” How do you know nobody’s listening??? Do you see anybody else interviewing Marty??? Well then, I guess there’s no rush to sign Marty now is there…… Just relax and take your medication dude. I would much rather see them take their time and get the thing right this time. They missed on Morris but they did fine with Dungy and Gruden so I believe they’ll find a quality coach.
