Jags Average 12.7 Points A Game

December 7th, 2011

"Olie, if just one of us could be our best selves, I bet we'd win this one."

On paper, the Bucs-Jags game on Sunday is one of the ugliest on the NFL schedule this season.

The Jags can’t score, putting up a mere 12.7 points a game. (Think about that.) But they’ve managed to win a few, thanks in large part to their defense, which is ranked fifh-best in the NFL.

The Bucs, well, they lead the league in anemic starts and self-implosion, and Raheem Morris’ defense is extraordinarily accommodating to opposing running backs.

Yeah, this one should be ugly, but Joe is expecting a fascinating game.

Maurice Jones-Drew leads the NFL in rushing and has to be salivating at the thought of the Bucs coming into his house. But Blaine Gabbert completes less than 50 percent of his passes and takes a ton of sacks.

Joe can’t imagine the Bucs moving the ball on a team with a defense that no doubt will punch them in the mouth.

Seriously, Joe can’t wait to watch this game. Joe suspects the Bucs’ expensive punter and lights-out field goal kicker might be the difference.

Why do I have a suspension we are going to help that Jags stat out?

  2. FLBoyInDallas Says:

The Bucs offense cannot move the ball against even average defenses, much less a top five defense. And since the Bucs defense cannot stop even the worse offenses I don’t have much hope of them pulling out a win here. Especially since the Jags are at home. I’m taking the Jags 20-13.

  3. OAR Says:

Was curious what our points per game was and low-and-behold we are at 18.1! Wow, we are the juggernaut!

  4. Oahubuc Says:

Olson will have to get creative. This is a test. We need to figure out how to score -21 or so to cover our usual spread.

  5. bucsalltheway Says:

Our defense can’t even stop a runny nose. When we didn’t sign RUUD back I knew we was doomed for the season. We took puzzle pieces and them em away…that’s why no one gets the picture…we totally suck right now

  6. RCH Says:

Joe thanks for the laugh under the picture I needed that. The problem I have when were shown nice stats like that and you think we have a break on something we make the other team look like super star and they somehow make franchise history on us.

  7. bucsalltheway Says:

At least RUUD got the defense to line up…no complaints too bad on foster but he has yet to post a double digit tackle game yet and I told everyone this would happen. Now would u rather have a BARRETT RUUD getting trucked but still make the stop or a lb who gets juked or constantly getting ran and passed on. I doubt he studies film like RUUD.

  8. Dave Says:

I look for MJD to have his best game of the season… unfortunately.

  9. Thomas Says:

I live here in st aug / jax and wanted to say anyone coming to the game be aware of your surroundings in the bud zone.
Last time I was here with my Buc gear on and someone pushed me real hard in the back and did not own up to it. The jag fans here are not that friendly to people with opposing jerseys especially in the bud zone where most are drunk (hence the name).
I lived here for a long time so I know. And I am NOT just saying this bc someone tried to start a fight. Ive seen and heard too many things so that’s why I’m looking out to my Tampa friends. I’m going to the game with my white Bucs polo shirt but not my jersey like I used to.
Anyways, let’s stop MJD, and we will win this game.
    Go Bucs!

  10. Hawaiian Buc Says:

That’s amazing that MJD is leading the team in rushing, yet they have the worst offense. I thought a running game is a QB’s best friend. That doesn’t look good for Gabbert.

I’m going to go out on a limb and predict we score an offensive TD in the first quarter. I have no facts to support this, but I’ve been predicting this for 8 straight games, so eventually it has to come true right? I mean, we can’t seriously go the entire season without scoring an offensive TD in the first quarter, can we? Also, we tend to play much better the week after receiving a beat down (even though we still lose). So after Carolina, we should play great.

  11. Bucnjim Says:

If the Jag’s fumble on the 5 yard line we may score in the first quarter

  12. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Bucnjim,

That’s kind of what I was thinking, but maybe more like the 2 yard line. However, after Zuttah’s holding penalty and the offsides, we will have to travel 17 yards. I think we can still pull it off.

  13. Captain Stagger Says:

If we expect to win we need to play with a lead, and take the ball out of mjd’s hands. DB and AC could feast on Gabbert.

  14. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I just hope we run another end around to Benn. I don’t know what I would do if we don’t run that one.

  15. Bucnjim Says:

The Jag’s may just bring in another offensive lineman and run the option all day long. Time of posession Jags 38:00 Bucs 22:00. Final Score 10-9. Don’t get me wrong; I’m a Buc fan, but I’ve seen us play them and we just don’t match up with them well.

  16. Eric Says:

I think Weaver got almost a billion from some Sheik in Pakistan to buy the Jags.

Fans are clinging to that as an improvement, wearing weird mustaches.

Doesn’t seem like they are hitting on all cylinders. Im thinking something like 16-14 bucs win, with three field goals and a defensive touchdown.

  17. jvato24 Says:

Man oh Man will the wheels come off this ship if we lose in Jax … WOW

  18. knucknbuc Says:

Gotta say I don’t believe that were going to win this won. I love my bucs but this team is just bad. We definantly won’t win if jf isn’t playing. We can’t stop the run so were not going to be able to stop MJD. Jags should just run that tebow offense this week because their gonna rack up some yards on the ground. Our Offense has no creativity and struggle to move the ball if Blount isn’t a factor and the jags line is filled with powerful run stuffers. The only way we beat them is throwin the ball but the jags have a pretty good pass defense 2 so I doubt we beat the jags.

  19. K2theSoldier Says:

How many people would be REALLY surprised if we lost this game?

  20. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Tampa will not beat the Jags, at home.
There is renewed optimism in J Ville, new coach and owner.
I will be surprised if we win another game this season.
I love my team, but sometimes things need to get worse, much worse, before they can get better.
Maybe then the Glaciers will put an end to this ill fated experiment called the Raheem/Dominick era.

  21. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Apple Roof,

How did that “renewed optimism” work on Monday night against the Chargers? You know, that team that owned a 6 game losing streak before thrashing the Jaguars on national TV. Nothing gets a team up like a new owner! Nothing screams excitement like an interim head coach! What are you talking about???? Maybe you think we will be jet lagged from that long trip across the state to Jacksonville?

I wouldn’t be shocked if we lost, but that is about the lamest argument I have ever heard. If we lose, it’s not because of anything Jacksonville does, it will be because we are not a good team. There is no excuse for losing to them. I don’t care if Rudy Carpenter gets the start, anything less than a win is unacceptable.

  22. RCH Says:

I agree with you Hawaiian Buc. This season is already a disapoinment and at the very least we should be able to beat the Jags and split with Carolina and be competative in our other two games and not get blown out. Not saying I am happy with that scenario but thats where were at right now. IMO lossing those two games would be completely unacceptable.

  23. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“I think Weaver got almost a billion from some Sheik in Pakistan to buy the Jags.”

    ——

You might want to do a little more research on the new owner of the Jags.

  24. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

    Jags(MJD) 21 – Bucs (Connor Barth) 12.

  25. New Coach Says:

As much as I hate to say it, I hope we lose in a dramatic fashion. If we win this game and one other Raheem is probably safe, and that does not spell a good future for Buc fans.

  26. Captain Stagger Says:

    Suck for Fisher

  27. Tommy Boy Says:

    @ bucsalltheway

Please remove your nose from RUUD’s jock. He sucks, got a one year deal, and has been outplayed by another rookie MLB.

  28. BecklesHeartsRuud Says:

“Seriously, Joe can’t wait to watch this game.”- Really Joe??? Doesnt take much to get you excited does it?

  29. Miracle Says:

Odds of Raheem getting fired by next week if we get spanked by the Jaguars?

…. FYI, I am a Raheem supporter, but I see no argument for letting him stay if we get beat by 14 or more by the Jags.

  30. Hawaiian Buc Says:

They are not going to fire him in the middle of the season. I’m also a Raheem supporter, but I see no argument for letting him stay if we get beat, period (nevermind 14 points). Even if we win, it’s tough to defend him the way this season has gone.

  31. gotbbucs Says:

no win from this point forward will change my perception of this coach. i’ve seen plenty this year to make my decision, another sloppy win over a poor opponent wont change my mind.

  32. Adam Says:

Race to 10 (losses in a row!)

  33. Patrick Says:

Actually, our offense moves the ball well at times. But the two things that always KILL it are:

    1. Our dreadful redzone failures

    2. Olsen’s f’ks it up with his playcalling.

But our offense is also not very good either. I enjoyed seeing Garcia to Galloway a lot more than this crap.

  34. frige bob Says:

Don’t forget the penalties, Patrick. Oh god, the penalties…

  35. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

@HawaiianBuc, Jacksonville was playing the Chargers tough for awhile, and we are NOT the Chargers, not even close.
The Chargers are, and have been, an underachieving, playoff caliber team.
Tampa was an overachieving 10 and 6 team last year, and will be a last place team this year. After facing the far superior San Diego Chargers, Tampa will be a cakewalk for Jacksonville, at home.

RCH, you are dreaming if you think we beat the Jags at home, and also beat Carolina at home, when they spanked us here in Tampa.

Get used to last place in the NFC South for years to come, thanks to the Glaciers turning our team over to a couple of untested, and unproven Kids called Mark Dominick and Raheem Morris.

How totally disrespectful of the Glaciers, after the people of Tampa passed a tax to support them.

It is going to take years to fix the plague that Mark Dominick has brought on us, even with a new head coach.

  36. Joe Says:

    Miracle:

If the Bucs lose to the Jags and if Team Glazer believes a change is neccesary — hardly a slam dunk — a change won’t happen before January.

  37. Patrick Says:

    @Joe

It’d be disgusting if Raheem and Dom stay here, especially if they finish 4-12 ( a strong possibility). By doing that, they’re saying “yes” to more blackouts and more attendance problems.

  38. Joe Says:

    Patrick:

Joe is growing wearing of repeating this to you, but there just is no “name” coordinator to come in and work for one year under Raheem. First off, said coach will already have a nice job and job security. Second, Raheem’s contract runs through the 2012 season. No coach unless he is desperate or a college guy wanting to add “NFL” to his resume will uproot his family for one year and work under a lame duck coach with no job security. Please grasp this piece of reality.

  39. Patrick Says:

    Joe:

Believe me, I read your posts and pay attention to them.

Read my post again. I mentioned nothing about coordinators. I basically answered your last post. Raheem’s contract is a factor (like you said), therefore maybe it’d be better just to fire him and get a HC that won’t be lame duck and one that coordinators would like to coach under.

I’ve read your responses and have payed attention to what you said. No one will want to work under Raheem with only 1 yr left on his contract. So we have to extend it one year in order for that to happen, when he doesn’t even deserve it. 4-12 or 5-11 never gets a coach a contract extension. I’ve NEVER heard of that.

If we got a “name” HC, then the chances of a “name” OC or DC would be greater. Just saying “if”.

You’re judged by wins and losses in this league. But there’s also more than that. This is a fanbase who’s had a great amount of patience over the years and is really angry about the direction of this team. You can’t blame them at all. You think fans of other teams would be settling for this? If this were Philly, Raheem would need bodyguards.

  40. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Apple Roof,

Are you serious? Did you realize the Chargers had a 6 game losing streak with a far easier schedule than us? We played the Packers and Titans tough for the entire game, why then are we so terrible? Because you have to put together a full game. We don’t, and neither does Jax. But please stop pretending that they are in any better of a situation than us. That is ridiculous.

  41. BigMacAttack Says:

I get jet lag every time I drive to Jacksonville too, takes me about 3 days to recover. I seem to remember Chucky having a couple of 4-12, 5-11 seasons without getting the axe. He also had more control over who the players were on the team. I still don’t think they will fire Raheem, but may bolster him with some new coaches, maybe even FA’s if we’re lucky, but he needs more time.

I think maybe Raheem should strap up and get on the field to prove his worthiness. I’m sure he could play Mike as well as Ruud did.
