Gerald McCoy Out For The Year

November 6th, 2011

The ugly loss to the Saints just got worse.

Far, far worse.

Per Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times, he has Twittered that the Bucs’ disruptive defensive tackle is lost for the year.

@NFLSTROUD: Bucs DT Gerald McCoy is out for the year with a right arm injury, players say.

This is the second year in a row that GMC has been lost for the season. This being GMC’s second season, it appeared he was going to be a force for the Bucs and did make an impact on the opponents’ rushing attack when he was in the game.

This is just terrible news, and the way the Saints gutted the Bucs on the ground, in particular freight-training Quincy Black more than once, imagine what Adrian Foster will do?

UPDATE: Per Stephen Holder of the St. Petersburg Times, GMC has torn biceps in his right arm.

McCoy, the NFL’s No. 3 overall draft pick in 2010, suffered a torn biceps in his left arm last season, but now is said to have torn the right biceps.

“Hey, stuff like that happens, man,” DT Brian Price said. “I feel bad for him because he had the same injury last year, just on the other arm. My heart goes out to him because I know how hard it is being on I.R. I just hope he gets better.

    ARE YOU F****** Serious?!

  2. KD Says:

I’m really not exagerrating…there goes the season. Without McCoy we can’t push the pocket. Without McCoy Clayborn is double teamed. Without McCoy this defense is fu-well, we saw what the defense is without McCoy the past 2 games.

  3. KD Says:

And without McCoy, Roy Miller plays more. Miller is one of the worst 3rd round draft picks I’ve ever seen. For as big as he is he can’t hold his ground for s%$#.

  4. RED MAN Says:

You mean Arian Foster. Doesnt really matter at this point tho, anyone off the street could run through this pathetic defense. This injury is going to kill what’s left of our D.

  5. raphael Says:

BUST !!!!!!! but the guy is a all pro TALKER

  6. canadianbuc Says:

if we cant stop corey ivory how the hell are we supposed to stop Arian foster????????????

  7. Nick Says:

We should call him Gerald “fine china” McCoy,

He has missed more games in two years then Warren Sapp did in his entire time with the Bucs.

    *BUST*

  8. SteveK Says:

    This is not good.

McCoy should man up and reconstructure his contract. Getting paid WWWAAAAYY too much for not even playing.

Trade him for peanuts and move on Bucs. His salary would look good with DeSean Jackson and rogers-cromartie getting paid instead.

  9. Buc Neckid Says:

Here is to hoping that it is not TOO serious.
Year Ending Injuries are definitely serious,
But this guy needs a chance next year.
This season has not been good to him (health wise)
He needs to re-hab his injury and his mouth,
and come back next year with a chip on his shoulder to lead by example.
His mentor Sapp learned to shut up and Kick ass on the field and THEN
    when he talked people listened.
Well wishes to him for a speedy recovery…

  10. Patrick Says:

McCoy may have improved a little this year, but he still wasn’t playing that great. And the fact that his season has ended early for the 2nd year in a row is a major red flag.

Should we really be confident that he can comeback next year, un-injury prone, and play like the pro bowler that we wanted him to be? Raheem and Dom. could be fighting for their jobs if they miss the playoffs again this year

  11. Sam Says:

When exactly did we stop the Saints running game? It wasn’t until the 4th quarter that I was even aware we were actually putting defensive players on the field.

I tell you what, not making a play for Sproles really looks stupid right now…

  12. Patrick Says:

    @SteveK

Quincy Black is robbing the Bucs of money that should’ve gone to Sproles

  13. thomas 2.2 Says:

I hope that he has a complete recovery. He seems like a nice young man and I mean that. My opinion of him as a football player is beside the point.

GMC got his money, if he is done for good he should never have to work again. I hope Okam comes back soon bc he and Price are our best 2. There is no doubt that Miller is horrible.

  14. FLBoyInDallas Says:

    Patrick…playoffs?! You talkin’ ’bout playoffs?!

Seriously, this team should be shooting to finish at or just above .500 as a reasonable goal the rest of the way. Playoffs are not even a remote possibility at this point.

Not with the way this team is playing. No damn way.

  15. d clark Says:

wow well this sucks. If miller is starting next game mine as well not even watch it because he’s so bad. id rather us sign booger mcfarland off the street. He was getting b**** slapped all game and had his manhood taken away from him. Literally he could have a lamp post in front of him and still not get to the qb. And 2.2 you finally get your wish of okam and miller.

  16. d clark Says:

    I mean okam and price

  17. K2theSoldier Says:

Miller is awful. With him getting play time we’re in big trouble. We saw how much we missed Mccoy today. This sucks.

  18. Just Frank Says:

At least we will get another high draft pick. Hopefully we can get someone next to clayborne cause he is a beast.

  19. Patrick Says:

Look, I’m pretty pissed right now like ya’ll are, but here’s to hoping the Bucs can make the playoffs still. The NFL is not as strong as it was last year, so I think 9-7 could still get us in. Even though that’s still unacceptable and mediocre.

But our schedule is pretty brutal. Houston next week, and then we have undefeated Green Bay. We also face Cam Newton twice.

  20. thomas 2.2 Says:

Maybe they will spend 50 million on a weak D Tackle again in the 2012 draft?

  21. Joe Says:

    Patrick:

For the Bucs to make the playoffs at 9-7 that means both Detroit and Chicago are going to have to have a major collapse. Joe doesn’t see that happening.

Winning the NFC South at this point is a pipe dream.

  22. Big Marlon B Says:

That is terrible news. I feel really bad for the kid. Sounds like he is a really hard worker, and someone his teammates love being around. I hope he makes a full recovery and can find a way to stay healthy….healthy enough to disrupt and be productive.

On a side note, can you people please stop beating the Darren Sproles horse?? It’s clearly dead. Of course we all wish we could have him on this squad. What u morons fail to realize is that a free agent has the option to choose where HE WANTS to go. It has been documented that Mark Dominik made an offer. It is also well documented that Sproles has a great friendship with Drew Brees, dating back to their time together in San Diego. Dominik may have made a larger offer, we will never know. The fact remains that Sproles CHOSE to sign with the Saints because He WANTED to….for whatever reasons there may have been. Leave it alone.

  23. Big Marlon B Says:

He could’ve chosen less money for a great opportunity to play for a perennial contender and with one of his good friends. Maybe he just likes the food and culture in New Orleans. He’s not here, so its time to just get over it.

  24. macabee Says:

Someone said we’re probably a .500 team. I am seriously trying to think of the 4 remaining teams that I think we will defiinitely beat, and I’m having difficulty. At one time, I thought we would surely beat Carolina twice, but you’re going to have to score points to beat them, looking at the way they have played so far. Dazed and bewildered in Buc Land!!

  25. UK_Buc Says:

    @Big Marlon D

Spot on, sir. It’s getting so boring hearing the Madden players on here talking about how we JUST need to sign Desean Jackson, Matt Forte, Peyton Hillis, and Cromartie.

The Glazers wont spend the money, and even if they did, with respect, Tampa isn’t as desirable a place to go as some of the bigger markets with genuine playoff prospects.

  26. Patrick Says:

I always want the Bucs to win, but this is how I’m seeing it realistically

    Houston-loss

    Green Bay-loss

    Tennessee-win

    Jacksonville-win

    Dallas-loss

    Carolina- 1 win, 1 loss

    Atlanta- loss

    7-9

  27. thomas 2.2 Says:

BTW: have they disclosed which fingernail it was?

  28. Oahubuc Says:

Terrible news. Miller looks like a giantbaby learning to walk.

  29. Tommy Boy Says:

    Oahubuc

Your comment was the best part of the game today. LMAO!!!

  30. Blubber Price Says:

If the team’s policy is to completely ignore free agency , you can’t keep missing on these high draft picks. At this point you can chalk McCoy up as another miss.

Are any of our high draft picks really that great ? Are any of them huge difference makers , besides maybe Freeman ? Hell no.

  31. Thomas 2.2 Says:

Blubber, you are absolutely correct. Imagine the Saints without Drew Brees (free agent). Imagine the Packers defense and secondary without Woodson (free agent). The Patriots offense without Welker (free agent), the Jets without Scott, Leonhard, Cromartie, Plaxico, Holmes (trade but still a vet) etc. Even the Steelers paid Farrior and Ryan Clark vet contracts.
Those players are all expensive but add so much to the young core.

However, so long as rah is the coach these players will not be fully developed anyway. We will never be consistently good until he is gone.

  32. Plbuc Says:

Bad players, bad coaches, no discipline, pride or smarts =5-11 season. The bucs could easily be 1-7. Ask yourself how many quarters of good football the bucs have played this year.I’ve been a fan since 1976 and I can’t remember a bucs team with so little will. Scoring a few points during trash time in the 4th quarter does not mean they are competitive or play hard. The fans deserve better. We don’t need coaches that are part of the hood and player friendly. We need competent coaches and an owner who actually cares about building a winning culture. So called pros should know how to tackle, block, run and pass although I don’t think the glazer boys care anyway.

  33. Bucnnole Says:

I haven’t seen any improvement with the addition of Keith Millard or Grady Sturtz. This line is soft. This defense can’t tackle. This team is being run by an inexpierenced inept dumb ass who has let the inmates run the asylum. Please bring in a veteren coach like Cowher or Fisher. Penalties, thug players cheap shooting opponents, and poor coaching all need to go

  34. Greg Says:

For once, I agree with Thomass, McCoy is a bust for the simple fact he can’t stay healthy. I’m on OU alum as well, so it kills me to say it, but McCoy will not be a constant force on this team, he’s the boxer with a glass jaw.

  35. Capt.Tim Says:

Damn! Yup, that about did it. Well, at least we will be competing for CB Dre Kirkpatrick. ( don’t believe it, Bucs are drafting Alphonso Dennard in the First!)

  36. USMC Says:

    BOHICA

  37. FIRE THE CANNONS!! Says:

Is Adrian Foster the love child of AP and Arian Foster?

  38. Dan Says:

not refering to anything to do with recovery here, but isnt this cadilac esque? maybe its genetic in mccoy a weakness in the bicep, either that or its horrible form that he didnt learn from, and no thomas as much as youd like to say so, i doubt that.

its odd, i wonder if theres any studies on the same injuries on different sides in players and whether its a conditioning, or body strength thing, or if its a genitic weakness,

i dont think anyone claimed cadi was weak when he had the same injury twice.

  39. Mauha Deeb Says:

Thomas 2.2 is comment fishing for anger. funny….

If McCoy can’t stay healthy we need to find another DT.

Foster should never be man up against a “scat back”.(Im looking at you, Raheem)

Barber needs to quit before he sullies his good name.

Biggers is not a starting NFL CB.

T-Jack needs to learn how to tackle.

RT and LG need immediate upgrades.(if Zuttah stays healthy he can fill either C or LG).

Olsen needs to go to a place where people don’t have to rely on his football smarts.

    Black needs a new home.

  40. Mauha Deeb Says:

    Now for the good:

    Clayborn will get better.

    Bennett over Bowers.

    Bowers over most other LDEs.

    Foster = anti-Ruud

    Penn is solid.

Good routes run(though I also saw ishy effort a lot)(WINSLOW)

Freeman threw well when he didn’t have a 300+lbs sweaty man ass hogging his front pocket.(doesn’t sound right)

Lorig blocked as good as any FB.

Blount is a 3rd down back.

  41. Mauha Deeb Says:

I am disgusted by this game though. Regardless of the vomitorial corpulence John Lynch was spewing time and time again, this was a winnable game.

When your QB hits Parker for a 30 yard gain after a pass interference penalty by Benn, only to be strapped with the weight of another pass interference penalty Winslow, what is your QB to do?

I saw some awesome effort out there tonight. I also saw some scumbag effort. That scumbag effort was way too prevalent. If I see that lack of effort again I will discontinue watching these games or participating in this teams games.

  42. Mauha Deeb Says:

ANyone talking about “We should have went for Sproles”……..You are not being realistic at all.

Name one play in which Sproles’ would have made the integral difference on the Buc’s offense…….

  43. Blubber Price Says:

The pass to Lumpkin down the sideline , where Lumpkin stopped running and jumped to early would have been a Touchdown with Sproles on the field.

Pretty much every single screen pass we’ve thrown all season would have made an intregal difference also…

    That was easy.

  44. flmike Says:

    @Mauha Deeb
Why do I always agree with you, must be the common sense factor?

Please stop with the Sproles stuff, he made it clear to his agent, only talk to two teams, New Orleans and Philly, he was not interested in going anywhere else. Period.

    Now to my points:
GMC, this is congenital, both arms the same injury a year apart.
Greg Olsen has to go. Period.
Where the hell was Blount on 3rd down?
Not blaming the refs, but com’on it’s football, if you are going to call contact at least be consistant across the league, a slight push off in one game is PI, while in another it’s a TD? can someone explain that to me.
Greg Olsen has to go. Period.
Where was Blount from the 2nd qtr to the 4th qtr?
Did I mention Greg Olsen has to go.
The game plan Offensively and Defensively for this game was amateurism at best negligent at worst, I knew what to expect from NO on both sides of the ball, why didn’t Raheem or Olsen?
It took exactly 61 seconds for us to abandon our run game, exactly 61 seconds.
    Greg Olsen must go.
