The Other Wounded: Foster And Talib

Listening to Raheem Morris’ radio show Monday, there was one point when Joe rewound the tape.
It was when Raheem was talking about the heart — and presumably the knee — of Aqib Talib.
“I don’t know how he played, but he did for his team,” said of Talib’s performance at less than full strength against the 49ers.
It was a pretty dramatic comment from the head coach, so Joe was looking to see whether Talib hit the practice field at full-go Wednesday and Thursday. He did, but he is on the official injured list. Though given Raheem’s comment, how healthy is Talib?
LeGarrette Blount and Gerald McCoy have gotten plenty of attention for their injuries what will knock them out of Sunday’s game against New Orleans, but another guy banged up is Mason Foster, who came out of the 49ers game with a messed up ankle. He’s been limited in practice and there’s still no word on whether he’ll play Sunday.
Quincy Black seems to be just fine, though, a fact not very soothing to Joe.

Hmmm, Aqib, who has played like crap all season, played injured and even crappier Sunday. Why? When I was bitching , back in March, that the secondary desperately needed depth- I was told the secondary was a “team Strenght”. A dozen different posters claimed Talib was Elite, Biggers was a future all Pro, and Gaitor was a Shutdown Corner. And Lewis was the best of the bunch.
So far, none of these Hall of famers can Stop the pass. And a CB who is playing terrible has to play injured.
That’s ok, I was also bitching we needed depth at RB,and new OLBs.
We all have figured out together that our CBs and OLBer suck.
Really nervous to see what we find out about our depth at Rb Sunday. Graham is about done. He plays hard, and is a great guy- but he’s about over. I hope Lumpkin surprises us all Sunday .
But I don’t expect him to.

Talib allowed one catch for 15 yards and a pass deflection but people only focused on his dropped INT and penalty. He covered solidly again this week. Ronde allowed 37 yards and two touchdowns(same exact yardage and TDs that Talib allowed to Megatron week 1) to Vernon Davis and no one is complaining about that.
I wonder if Talib’s penalties have to do with some injury issues.(tugging and pulling to make up for a lack of cut and burst). I know Talib isn’t the “cleanest” corner when it comes to jersey pulling, but he has never been penalized so much before. Perhaps the refs are really paying attention to it now after years of hearing the opposing WRs complain about it. Either way, his 5 penalties are ridiculous.

The biggest problem for the defense is our offense. Joe wrote early and often about the defense not being ready to hold off other teams if the offense did not click…I guess Joe was foreshadowing. I for one am not ready to jump ship on a 3-2 team. In fact, I will not jump ship if they lose to the Saints Sunday. Of course I have been a Bucs fan since I was a little kid in the 70’s, so I have seen much worse than this. Some Bucs fans are on ly happy if the Bucs pull off a perfect season.

Our LBs allowed 102 passing yards(90 between Geno Hayes and Watson). Our corners allowed 103 passing yards spread out among 5 CBs. It is clear to me the pass coverage weakness in this game was more our LBs than CBs. Then you look at the 3 penalties between Talib, Barber, and Jones and can see no one played well overall. If it wasn’t bad coverage, it was penalties or missed tackles.
This team is lacking basic football discipline. That is directly related to coaching.

I think the offense if largely responsible for what is happening on the defense. I don’t know why everyone seems to overlook this. It’s unfair to judge the defense this way. The D can’t help it if #5 keeps giving the ball to the other team. Thinking back even to our elite defense under Monte the defense would sometimes struggle when the offense would keep turning the ball over
Freeman needs to do the defense a favor and let the big guys rest. Poor Price needs enough breaks as it is!

People need to lighten up on Talib. He hasn’t played his best and has dropped easy picks, but he has played head and shoulders above everyone else in that horrific secondary this year. After week one where he covered the best receiver in the league he really hasn’t been thrown to that much. People see him on a tackle in the endzone but don’t realize that the man who scored wasn’t even his man, Aqib just came over to help. He hasn’t been playing poorly.
