“That’s Up To Raheem And Mark”
October 1st, 2011Joe can’t resist tossing some Saturday afternoon fodder out here to feed the conspiracy theorists among Bucs fans.
In the latest “Buccaneers Insider” video on Buccaneers.com, Larry Asante is interviewed about possibly starting at free safety Monday, and Asante responded by saying the usual team-first stuff but also said about the starting call, “That’s up to Raheem and Mark.”
While it’s probably just a stray comment from Asante, it was a little odd to hear a Mark Dominik reference there, and some might surely wonder whether rockstar general manager Dominik is involved in who starts for the Buccaneers.
Of course, GMs around the league have a heavy hand in preseason games, when talent evaluation is paramount. But in a regular season game?
Joe’s not buying it, but look what happened to Joe Maddon last night.

Classic 90’s reference there with CSM – the cigarette smoking man…
My guess is that it was a “stray comment”, but who really knows…

The truth is out there.

I wouldn’t say that its some kind of conspiracy if Mark watches practice and game film and helps Raheem decide who should be starting. This isn’t a GruAllen situation where the GM is just a glorified accountant. “The Rock Star” has proven himself as an expert talent evaluator and if he holds a vote in such situations then it is well deserved. Furthermore I think its not so much Dominik forcing his will on Raheem so much as Raheem soliciting Dominik’s advice. From everything I’ve seen so far these two are as tight a coach\GM combo as their is in the league. It’s inevitable. Young owners\Young GM\young coach\young team. This team is young from ownership down to this years rookies and it has created an incredible synergy that I have never seen before on an NFL team.

The Bucs are engineering the future of the NFL right now. I truly believe that. This teams success will prompt future teams to stop relying so much on old men in the front office, coaching ranks and on 30+ year olds in the clubhouse.

HaHa- Your hilarious 2.2 . Their the owners. They don’t need a mole. If they want to make a call. They make a call. They OWN the team. Its that simple. Your thinking of the Cowgirls and Jerrah Jones. Our owners don’t involve themselves in decisions about who starts.

Mark watches a lot of film and knows talent. Raheem is wise to get his input, to field the best team Tampa possibly can.
