Bucs Missed On “Cheap Yardage Plays”
September 13th, 2011Listening to Jeff Faine chatter last night on The Jeff Faine Show on WYGM-AM in Orlando, Joe didn’t hear a guy talking like his team was “youngry” on Sunday.
Faine spoke of the Bucs’ offense failing on what he calls “cheap yardage plays,” those small chunks of real estate that help get the offense in a rhythm and move the chains early in a drive.
“Some of the key calls, I think they’re cheap yardage plays. Almost plays we take for granted,” Faine said. “Naked’s that we’ll get five, six yards on. We didn’t get them.”
Faine offered no real insight other than the usual playerspeak after a team starts slow and “didn’t execute” or “get it going.”
Faine did say the Bucs will come out with a similar gameplan Sunday in Minnesota and “not just jump into our two-minute offense.”
Other things Joe learned, Demar Dotson refers to the Bucs starting center as “Uncle Faine,” and Faine scoreboard watches during game. “It’s hard not to watch the scoreboard when it’s right there in front of your face. I was happy Chicago was beating Atlanta,” Faine said.

The way I look at is they are young and going to make mistakes and it was ONE game.
Not comparing the two, but last time I checked the Packers squeaked into the playoffs at 10-6 last year and were far from looking like a playoff team half the year.
Basically, people need to stop panicking. They have alot to improve on an I believe they will and I believe they will be a playoff team this year.

Faine was happy Chicago was beating Atlanta, while everyone in Raymond James was watching Faine being beaten by everyone in front of him.

Last year, Detroit barely beat us. This year they killed us. Have they got that much better, or has Tampa got that much worse ? One would think we would want revenge against a team that ended our playoff hopes at home last year ? I love Tampa no matter what, but I see problems. It is looking like we should have kept Ruud and Williams, and our O and D Line Coaches. This WAS a 10 win team with a 1000 yard rusher. We crushed the saints at home the final game last year, why mess with success ? Mark Dominick has balls of brass, I will give him that!

Tried those 3 – 5 yard plays for years and look where my offense went….you got it no where. Teams have watched the Bucs tape from last year. Our opponents are stacking the line for these short passes and runs. Freeman needs to progress to the point where he can throw a strike 15 – 30 yards consistently in non 2 minute drill action. In the 2 minute drill when teams are playing a soft zone, Freeman can make some plays. But I have yet to see him make consistent down the field passes which should loosen up the defense.

Faine gotta go. He’s constantly, physically abused from tha point of contact. With him starting, Free barely has a pocket 2 step up and throw in.

We are just not that good of a team. We have tons of excuses on both sides of the ball. When was the last time WE set the tone for a home game, and made a quality opponent like Detroit play our game?
