Bucs Cuts Are Happening

August 29th, 2011

Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik is in the process of trimming the Bucs roster.

Joe just learned via really good guy, Bucs offensive guard Brandon Carter, via Twitter, that he was just cut.

bcarter60: Just got released from TB buccaneers.

Joe is really bummed to learn this. Brandon (and his dad) have always been way cool to Joe and damnit, Joe thought Carter played really well Saturday night.

Carter had an angry streak that Joe loved in offensive linemen.

Brandon, you are a good guy. Keep your chin up dude. You will get another NFL gig man.

UPDATE: More cuts have taken place. Here’s the full list from Buccaneers.com:

  • WR Aundrae Allison
  • CB Vince Anderson
  • G Brandon Carter (waived/injured)
  • TE Collin Franklin
  • DE Brandon Gilbeaux
  • WR Detron Lewis
  • P Robert Malone
  • WR Jock Sanders
  • FB Rendrick Taylor
  • CB Ashton Youboty

Sanders, who played high school ball at St. Petersburg Catholic, showed Joe enough that he will likely get a look from another team.

Not surprised though, with Jospeh, Larsen, Hardman, and Zuttah.

  2. FLBoyInDallas Says:

On a team hungry for competent depth at guard, and considering he was one of the very first cuts, it’s obvious he just couldn’t cut it at this point. Good luck to him.

  3. Kryq Says:

Hopefully Jock Sanders will be put on practice squad before getting signed by another team.

  4. Chris FWC :) Says:

I knew Jock wasn’t gunna make it. He looked like a midget out there.
    Ashton ‘Cup of Coffee’ Youboty.

  5. Wienaman Says:

Sorry FLBoy, i can’t agree…I think he was just the odd man out on an offensive line full of guys that at various times have shown a lot of talent in the regular season (see all four of the guys that Dave mentioned). Pretty sad to see him go, probably partially b/c of Joe he was one of my favorite players ><

  6. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Not saying I didn’t like him. Living in Dallas I actually saw quite a bit of him when TT played on television. I liked his intensity and toughness. Just saying his technique wasn’t up to par at this stage of his development. He’s still eligible for the PS like he was last year, so hopefully that’s where he ends up.

  7. Matt Says:

Carter > Hardman, sad to see him go.

  8. Architek Says:

I get it and I wish him the best. Our O-Line just flat out stinks of mediocrity, imo. I feel that there is no punch or anchor to the line. It’s no excuse for a unit that is highly paid and has been together for years. I hope Dominik comes for some of these players. Joseph is solid but not great run blocking and subpar in pass-pro. I look at the Saints interior and think of wow now that’s and interior. The Oline will either hurt or makes us decent with no run game.

Joe have you heard anything about the Bucs wanting to look at speed back Locke who was cut by Philly? We could use the help on offense

  9. Mauha Deeb Says:

Honestly, how good could Brandon be if he got cut from a line up of perennial underachievers? I don’t get it personally. I thought he played better than any of the other guys, but I must be wrong.

  10. Macabee Says:

Architek, Derrick Locke has a congential spine defect, he will never make it in the NFL. The Rams had him in, then passed, Then the Vikings actually signed him and released him the next day as he couldn’t clear the physical, then the Eagles signed him for camp fodder knowing they were going to release him. I am repeating news feeds from Rotoworld.com.

  11. Macabee Says:

Bucs are reporting Brandon Carter as waived/injured, which is what usually happens when someone is going to IR. I’m a little confused because I didn’t know about an injury and his tweet was pretty clear about being cut.

  12. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

I am sorry to see Carter leave Tampa.

  13. Last Don of Tampa Says:

    B. Carter released in an injury settlement

  14. Jrock Says:

Rendrick Taylor gone too. Sure hope Lorig gets this fullback thing figured out..

  15. Four Fingered Fisherman Says:

Sad to see Brandon go as well, but from my perspective, he was really trying to beat out Hardman for a spot and with what Hardman showed against Suh last year, I guess it wasn’t enough.

I hate to see Jock go as well. He will end up being another Brandon Banks (who we let go) somewhere in the NFL. I guess he only showed promise in the return game and everyone knows we like versatility with our players, especially on special teams. He didn’t show that yet and just needs more time to prove his worth and develop (specifically at the WR position) before we would give him a spot on the 53-man roster. Here’s to hoping he does!

  16. WeNeedADefensiveCoordinator Says:

    Bunch of no-names.

  17. Macabee Says:

This is powder puff stuff. The 53 man cut down is going to be brutal. Get ready for it!!

  18. Four Fingered Fisherman Says:

@ Macabee – It truly will be! I shall have my fridge packed full of Sierra Nevada Pale Ales…

  19. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Jock Sanders is also probably a casualty of the new NFL kickoff rule. A kick returner just isn’t very valuable, because half the time they are going to be touchbacks. It’s just not worth saving a roster spot for a punt returner, especially when we have Spurlock.

  20. Garv Says:

Thee were all players who never really had a chance making this team going in. We are too talented and too deep at ALL of the positions cut.
As has been typed, MUCH touher cuts are to come.

  21. Brandon Says:

Getting cut waived/injured is usually a precursor to being stashed on IR, hopefully this is the case here because there is no way he wasn’t a lot better than Larsen. Did he piss somebody off or what? There’s no way from the game tape that he wasn’t better.

  22. Capt.Tim Says:

    Bummer!! Liked Carter and Taylor!

Wish they could find someone to breathe life into that sad O-line of ours.

  23. Hawaiian Buc Says:

As for Carter, I’d be lying if I said I was really watching him in the games, so (unlike Thomas always does) I can’t give an honest opinion on how he played. Most have said he played well, so I will take that as the truth. However, from what I have been reading on that other site (I won’t say the name, but the one that does daily training camp analysis), Carter struggled nearly every day. If true, I would imagine that had a lot to do with the decision to let him go. I’m pretty sure if he was tearing it up in practice, he would at least make it to the final cuts (assuming his injury is not season-ending).

  24. Brandon Says:

According to Carter, he has a big announcement to make tomorrow. Whether that be he is put on IR for the season or is giving professional wrestling a try I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

  25. Pete Dutcher Says:

On a different note but still related to the roster:

I get the feeling that Dominick and Morris are looking at the backup QB position as investment areas. For example, they have been pushing Johnson’s name out there.

Are there any young QBs out there that could become such an investment for the 3rd string spot? I’m not happy with Carpenter at all, and I would rather have a battle for backup than just Johnson there.

  26. Pete Dutcher Says:

    Maybe carter got an offer?

  27. Dave Says:

Most of these guys will never do anything in the NFL so for those of you pining for one player or another, get over it.

As for Rendrick Taylor, alot of you were sold on this guy because he is a body builder type. Last I checked that means absolutely nothing when it comes to knowing how to play football and apparantly he can’t. His college career, or lack thereof, showed that too.

  28. Heather Lynn Says:

I know Carter blew his knee out so I am sure that had a lot to do with it, but he is looking to maybe try professional wrestling. As a fan of both, I am happy to hopefully be able to see him in something, he’s a good kid! Hoping for good things to come for Brandon!
