Raheem Morris: Football Coach, Linguist
July 31st, 2011Oh that Raheem Morris, he’s at it again!
Never boring, always entertaining, Morris is now making a bid as the Bucs official linguist in addition to his coaching duties.
Morris was discussing in his post-practice press conference the loss of his “close friend,” middle linebacker Barrett Ruud who signed with the Titans last night. Morris then turned to the subject of his young linebackers who are hungry to make their mark on the NFL and Morris used the term “youngry,” as documented by Rick Brown of the Lakeland Ledger on Twitter.
@LedgeronBucs Morris: made up a new word. Yungry (young, hungry). Copyright time.
Indeed! Copyright time! This is the word of the season thus far for the Bucs in Joe’s eyes.
Last year Morris coined the phrase “Race to 10.” This year, it’s “yungry” Bucs. The team is loaded with young talent and hungry.
Yungry. Get used to it.
July 31st, 2011 at 1:04 pm
Yeah, the race to 10 slogan worked out real well, they attained that goal and accomplished nothing. You guys slobber over the most ridiculous stuff. I guess merging two words together is a sign of greatness. Lol
July 31st, 2011 at 1:06 pm
moroniac.
July 31st, 2011 at 1:06 pm
No Thomas, but it was a short fun read.
July 31st, 2011 at 1:07 pm
How about this word “mediocrity” resulting from failure to adequately upgrade roster through these words “free agency”.
July 31st, 2011 at 1:13 pm
I suppose we have a jackalope to play middle linebacker, since were into cutsy sayings now like a High School Team.
July 31st, 2011 at 1:14 pm
Jake:
Joe believes there is already a term for that.
It’s called “Dan Snyder.”
July 31st, 2011 at 1:15 pm
Raheem, once again proves his intelligence and witt. I love this guy and all the intellectual elitist, Raheem haters are about to go back into hibernation as Raheem’s “youngry” dream team heads to their first Division Title. Suck it boys, you’re about to get again owned again by Raheem the Dream and his Lemonade Making Ability.
The Kids are Alright.
July 31st, 2011 at 1:16 pm
Awww, did the mean ole coach make you mad.
July 31st, 2011 at 1:17 pm
I think we soundly defeated Snyder’s team with a missed extra point last year. But, were chuck fulla talent………………
Gonna be a fun year.
July 31st, 2011 at 1:20 pm
Weak argument Joe. Snyder carries it to the other extreme. Free agency seems to work well for other teams as a supplement, not a cure all.
July 31st, 2011 at 1:23 pm
You mean like the Pats? Oh, thats right they got that idiot Bellichick actually engaging in FA to help his team make a run…………..
July 31st, 2011 at 1:23 pm
Which is what Dominik said he would do when he believes it is time.
Name a big-named free agent the Packers signed? Yeah, Rod Woodson. How many years did it take for him to get the team over the hump? A starting quarterback ago, that’s how long. And Woodson wasn’t even on the field for half of their Super Bowl win.
How bout those Steelers? Who was name big-named free agent they signed to get them to three Super Bowls in six years, Flozell Adams?
July 31st, 2011 at 1:24 pm
And we soundly missed the playoffs by a bad call.Maybe Snyder should have bought a chuck kicker with all that money…………… Gonna be a great year!
July 31st, 2011 at 1:27 pm
Rah! Rah! Rahrah! Rah! Rah! Rahrah! (In the tune of Lady Gaga)
July 31st, 2011 at 1:31 pm
ROTFLMAO!!! Good one Eric!!!
July 31st, 2011 at 1:32 pm
My slogan would be:
Putcha finga in the PIE and tase’ it!
July 31st, 2011 at 1:32 pm
everyone was is missing the RACE part. it wasnt hey if we get ten wins that’d be cool. it was “we want to be the FIRST to ten wins”. they didnt achieve their goal, they have some hunger to acheive that this year
July 31st, 2011 at 1:32 pm
I agree and think this may be the best year ever, or very close.
July 31st, 2011 at 1:34 pm
You guys notice how Raheem worked into his presser the fact that Quincy Black was brought in as a MLB but moved to Sam because Barrett Ruud was there. I’m still thinking Black will eventually end up there this season. They spent too much money on him to keep him as a two down Sam LB.
July 31st, 2011 at 1:40 pm
good to see the slow squad joining up forces again. they’ll bitch and bitch and bitch until the team wins and then they’ll hide under a rock. same lame bs, different season.
July 31st, 2011 at 1:45 pm
brandon, i think if that was thier plan you’d see black at mlb right now in training camp. this isn’t exactly the traing camp to be messing around with position changes on such a short window.
July 31st, 2011 at 1:51 pm
for those upset about not signing a big name free agent get over it… i’ve question Dom’s moves the last 2+ years and each time he has proved me wrong. i’m sitting back and trusting they are doing the right thing..so far they haven’t let me down.. how many people out their were complaining about the freeman pick???i know i wasn’t the only one!! thats worked out pretty good i think
and to Thomas i’ll take the 10 wins and a young team improving their record by 7 wins and miss the playoffs then go 7-9 and make the playoffs in some $h!tty division like the NFC West
July 31st, 2011 at 2:06 pm
Some people would whine and complain if Raheem Morris said he had a ham sandwich for lunch. OH, MAN!!! If he’d have had a turkey sandwich they woulda signed Asomugha…. DANG!!! If he woulda had roast beef, we could been first in the division instead of third. How STUPID having a HAM sandwich, just goes to show he’s still a DB coach pretending to be a head coach, a HEAD coach woulda had a Reuben….
Silly really… Personally, I kinda like this coach, and his “youngry” team.
July 31st, 2011 at 2:16 pm
Not trying to rain on Barrett Ruud’s parade of hate, but you guys do realize that the Bucs could end up 4-12 right?

You could just as easy flip that to 11-5…There is no easy game in the NFL anymore have Faith in #5. I understand that we have never had a true franchise QB. We will have a chance to win every game we play this year. Welcome to the NFL with a Franchise QB it will probably take a few years for all the Bucs fan to get it.

I agree Brandon, Quincy Black will be the MLB opening day. And Gotbbucs, Black isn’t in camp because he was a FA. Can’t practice until Thursday. Then I bet you see him at MLB.
July 31st, 2011 at 2:31 pm
Unlike last year, this year we play a much tougher schedule with teams that have nasty defenses and solid quarterbacks.
Gonna make for an interesting year to see how the young Bucs, Raheem and the fans deal with this adversity… especially when a lot of it may end up in some tough losses.
July 31st, 2011 at 2:32 pm
Eric: That made LOL.
Moraniac. I consider reading some of Thomas’s posts idiotherapy.
July 31st, 2011 at 2:35 pm
I agree, HolyBuc…I have been around long enough to know we sort of have ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ when it comes to winning.
In the old days, we used to remind ourselves that on any given Sunday, the Bucs were capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory…And while there were some lapses, last year, there was not a single game where I felt the Bucs were definitely going to lose.
July 31st, 2011 at 2:38 pm
except the pitsburg game quarter 2
July 31st, 2011 at 2:38 pm
We win atleast 1 out of playing the saints and falcons. That’s 2, plus Jax and lions. That’s 8-8 and still many games we should win.
July 31st, 2011 at 3:03 pm
Tampa—>Baaaaaaayyyy…By your same logic NO and ATL should have the sme type of record, and I guess we can count on CAR to roll over and play dead with 0 wins. The schedule is slightly tougher based on last years records. There really is no true easy schedule in the NFL. You are right there with Thomas, a jack ass.
July 31st, 2011 at 3:09 pm
The Bucs went from 25th to 18th for the SOS, hardly a huge difference. You should feel for the Panthers, who are listed in the number 1 spot.
July 31st, 2011 at 3:26 pm
because they have to play their division.
we had a harder strength of schedule than the colts (going on win loss at the end of the season) and freeman put up better numbers than manning.
i say we have a pretty thing going forward
July 31st, 2011 at 3:38 pm
We have a nice young team. I am excited about the future. But keeping all the same guys, even though they are growing into another season (which is a positive thing continuity wise), and even if they get better, that doesn’t equal more wins.
The Bucs can get better than they were last year and go 8-8. This is very true. Everyone knows the Bucs barely won against some horrid teams last year with 2nd rate backup QBs. This year, the team itself can get better and still not win as many games.
So, to curb expectations, 8-8 with this schedule is still on pace with the plan of building through the draft.
July 31st, 2011 at 3:46 pm
OK, I can buy that Tampa bayyyy…<aybe you are not one of the jack asses…sorry about that. I can also see them going 9-7 though.
July 31st, 2011 at 3:50 pm
Free agency has been terrible for rex ryan, bill bellichick, sean payton, philly etc etc. Charles Woodson was integral part of that D along with one or 2 d and O linemen.
July 31st, 2011 at 3:51 pm
The Bucs did get better this offseason. By losing a player. It’s called addition by subtraction.
July 31st, 2011 at 3:51 pm
Tampa bay,you are right so give two victories that was close to Wash. and Ari.But on the other hand give us the two we lost to Atlanta wasnt they close?
July 31st, 2011 at 3:54 pm
Sure Thomas,no one is biting on that. This is Sunday,no time to amuse you, you are right, bye!!!!
July 31st, 2011 at 5:27 pm
Here we go. The sheep are already making excuses for rah rah missing the playoffs again. No playoffs 3 straight years = new coach. Period.
I know the Glazers wont stroke that check but the fan base will keep eroding. Yes, we have a cheap coach but at what total cost?
July 31st, 2011 at 5:31 pm
No way Detroit beats us the 1st game.
July 31st, 2011 at 5:36 pm
I remember that same comment 10 months ago when the Lions came to town starting their 3rd string qb. Sackman Suh will dominate, unfortunately.
July 31st, 2011 at 5:45 pm
That was in December, not this time, this game will show the true Bucs home field advantage…Lots of Fans in the stands?…NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO it’s the LOVELY FLORIDA HEAT!!!!!
July 31st, 2011 at 5:55 pm
I don’t rem, ember Suh doing much in the game last year…Thomas, please go to the Lion’s boards and cheer for a team you like.
July 31st, 2011 at 6:36 pm
I have a few questions for Thomas and Eric: Are you two going to continue to criticize our team the entire year? At what point are you going to get tired of repeating yourself and just stop? If we make the playoffs this year will you just go away forever? I’ve never heard of a “fan” that hates a coach so much that he is hoping for failure of the team. What a miserable, lonely old man you must be. Only someone who has major issues with himself would wish failure upon someone else. If we go 0-3, then I would expect you to b!tch and moan, but last I checked we have the same record as everyone else. Just because we haven’t signed any big name players doesn’t mean we won’t be successful this year. You mention Philly and NE and all their acquisitions, but you fail to mention the two teams that played in the Super Bowl. What exactly have they done this offseason? Besides, did you really want Haynesworth or Ochocinco on this team? If we did, I can only imagine all the b!Tching you would do. Remember last year when you campaigned for Brandon “personality disorder” Marshall? If only Dominik listened to you!!! You know nothing about nothing, so why don’t you just cheer for the team or go away (at least until week 3). But I know you won’t, because you are so pathetic you would have nothing else to do with your miserable little life. Twist the facts however you want, we ALL know it’s true. Every single player on this team should be greatly improved, and I expect major contributions from our rookies (as we have gotten the last 2 years). You two go ahead and continue to do what you do, but I look forward to the day when you eat a huge plate of crow (of course, neither one of you are man enough to admit you are idiots).
July 31st, 2011 at 7:09 pm
Hawaiian Buc– So well said. Those two had a whole army of minion haters back in 2009- people too thick headed to learn,or too young to know anything.
Only back then they had an excuse. They didn’t know Raheem Morris. But now they have no excuse. The Bucs went 10-6 is only year 2 of the rebuilding project, and in all the key areas…QB, WR, OL, RB, DL, LB, and secondary, the team is either loaded with young quality upcoming talent, oh wait..thats just about every position.
And remember people, if your not supporting your team, your not a fan. Go somewhere else, bash the Falcons or something. ISnt there a JoePanthersFan.com out there for you guys to join?
July 31st, 2011 at 7:25 pm
Niko:
Calling out ownership for failing to competitively fund this team is supporting it. I want the org to use ALL means and resources to make this roster as talented as possible. That cant be done evenly through never acquiring the top free agents to fill needs. Charles Woodson was a key ufa when the pack signed him.
I, and I am sure Eric also, root for the team on Sundays.
I do NOT support what the Glazers have done to this org since MANU. Rah is a nice man, good db coach, but he was only hired bc he took this job cheap bc the Glazers were on the hook for Gru.
50% of the fanbase has left in boycott of this cheap product. Last year, i believe, was an aberration due to a soft schedule and great year by Free.
July 31st, 2011 at 7:27 pm
If this team steps backward I expect all of you to eat your crow and hold the Glazers and Rah Rah accountable.
July 31st, 2011 at 7:34 pm
Hawaiian:
Let me cover everything you say:
I hate thomas and eric. The bucs are great, the glazers are great, rah rah is great, building through the draft is the plan in no way due to saving Glazer money. 3-13 was okay, third place isnt last. 5 years to make the playoffs isnt too long . . . yada yada yada.
Ok hawaiian, no need for you to comment anymore, see you next year. Enjoy alln16 games since we cant bc rah has us blackedout for the foreseeable future.
July 31st, 2011 at 7:41 pm
See there HAWAIIAN AND Niko,I told you if you feed it ,it will only come back dont feed it it will go away!
July 31st, 2011 at 8:29 pm
i apologize to brandon, i had totally forgot that black wasnt allowed to practice till the 4th.
July 31st, 2011 at 8:29 pm
There is big difference here in reasoning and rationale. We know what side I’m on, it’s the Bucs, unconditionally. I hated Raheem at first, and thought he was an idiot when I first heard him speak. At that time I predicted on the Times’ site that the Bucs would go 3-13 and lose their first 7 games. I looked it up the other day and like an idiot, I nailed it. Now it makes me sick because I prejudged Raheem without giving him a fair chance. The last 4 games of that season I became a Raheem Morris fan, because he fired Bates, took over the defense and turned the team around. Because of this turnaround I was very optimistic last season and predicted 10-6. Any reasonable person could see early on in camp that Dom hit on some major players in the Draft and Raheem’s players love him. They play hard for him and if it’s broken, Raheem will fix it fast. Most of us realize we have a good young promising Coach and GM, but there are a few that can’t see it because their head is buried so far up their A$$ they can’t even see where they are going. As many have pointed out, misery loves company and they will do anything in their power to drag you into their pity party of hate and puke. So the rest of us will enjoy the season and these fools will bask in their abyss of ignorance, darkness and depression.
July 31st, 2011 at 8:46 pm
i love the players and the people and i will have fun and enjoy as long as they are competitive in games (even with losing record) and are pushing hard and enjoying it. I will turn into thomas when they arent trying and this core doesnt appear to be building or competing.
July 31st, 2011 at 10:42 pm
@ Thomas…
You continuing to blame the coach for blackouts is unbelievable. I actually can’t believe you’d say something so stupid. In fact, I’d bet that you would never say something so dumb in person in fear that you’d be slapped.
The plan is to build through the draft, and it got us 10 wins and very nearly a playoff berth. 10 wins almost always gets you into the playoffs.
We’ve built and are continuing to add on to a lasting competitor. Your overly negative attitude won’t allow you to have a positive outlook on any season for the Bucs.
August 1st, 2011 at 2:41 am
Thomas,
First of all, I don’t hate you or Eric. I hate taxes, my mortgage, and veggie burgers. I do, however, feel very sorry for people like yourself who are so miserable that you don’t even know how to be happy.
Also, it’s pretty sad that you have to put words in my mouth to try to justify your behavior. That’s what people do who have no valid argument. Notice how I don’t have to do that. And as for you not being able to see the games because they are blacked out, I have a perfect solution for you: Why don’t you put your Mike Alstott jersey in the closet, buy a Josh Freeman jersey, hop your arse in your car and drive to Raymond James Stadium. I would give anything to be able to do that every Sunday, and it really pisses me off that people like you take that for granted (those of you who can afford it). You don’t deserve a team, and if they ever move, look no further than people like yourself as to why.
One last thing, I got some breaking news for you: Nothing is going to change anytime soon in Tampa. The Glazers are not selling this team. Now since you know that, you have a decision to make: You can either support the team or you can find a new team that loves to spend on free agents (Go ‘skins). Otherwise, you are just wasting your time. I don’t really care what you do, but I would suggest you do something soon before you bust a blood vessel.
August 1st, 2011 at 8:11 am
BMAttack, Like you, I didn’t like Morris at first either. Unlike you, I still think he is an amateur playing at head coach. In fact, I chuckled the other day when it was reported that “With all the incentives”, Raheem could make 3.5 mil. on his 2 year contract. Seems that the Glazers don’t think he’s worth too much either. I wonder what his “Base” salary is, 1 mil? What you failed to relize too, was that when Bates was fired Morris simply allowed the D to play the T-2 defense that they were trained to play under Kiffin and they were bound to be better than they were under Bates. But the Defense, (under Morris), allows the same yardage and only won last year because Freeman & company suprised the NFL with their offense that Olsen designed for Freeman. There will not be any suprises by Freeman/Olsen this year. And Morris’s defense will be mediocre at best. The only improvement will be on the line (much needed) where Millard is coaching. We still need an experienced head coach & DC.
I would imagine that these young players love Raheem because he is one of them & not an authoritive figure at all. (see Talib).
