Micheal Spurlock Will Return To The Bucs

July 27th, 2011

Aside from the hole apparently created at middle linebacker, Joe was next most concerned about who would be the Bucs’ go-to guy as a return man.

No more worries. Per Anwar Richardson of the Tampa Tribune, Twittering on the TBO Bucs Twitter feed, it seems arguably the best return man in Bucs history will be waiting for kickoffs and punts to fall in his hands again this fall.

Run Micheal Run Spurlock will return.

WR Micheal Spurlock told me he will sign his tender on Friday. He looks forward to being in Tampa.

As Dominik has stated, he wanted to take care of his own first. And Spurlock is his own.

Joe hopes to hear many spastic Gene Deckerhoff calls of Spurlock’s returns.

Glad to see, but probably means we’re out of the Reggie Bush race…

  2. Joe Says:

    HGO:

Joe never got the impression Mark Dominik was in the Reggie Bush race.

  3. Capt.Tim Says:

Good move. This guy has been productive.

  4. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

Dominik doesn’t tip his hand either way.

Did you think we were in the Doug Free race before last night??

  5. K2theSoldier Says:

What the hell are we actually in the race for? I haven’t heard one guy outside of Doug Free, who we didn’t get, that we’re pursuing actively. We haven’t even resigned Davin yet for christs sake. I know it’s early, but god damn this is frustrating. I need to just shut off my phone and computer for the next 2 weeks.

  6. Garv Says:

    Great news!
Solid move. Michael is an improving WO and a damn good instinctive kick returner with nads.

    Welcome back Michael!

  7. Joe Says:

    HGO:

Reggie Bush just doesn’t seem like a Dominik kind of a signing. That’s what one would call a “splash” signing.

  8. Oahubuc Says:

Sign him for life, whether he sees the field or not.

  9. CanadaBuc Says:

    This is great news.
Is it just me or is anyone else not getting work done this week.
Between Joebucsfan.com and nfl.com I seem to be checking every 20-25 mins for news.

  10. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

Kellen Winslow (trade) and the Derrick Ward signing were splash pickups. Just because we didn’t utilize Ward correctly, doesn’t mean he wasn’t the top FA RB available out there when we signed him.

  11. K2theSoldier Says:

God forbid we make a splash. damn that’d just be retarded….

  12. sunrisejeff Says:

Gotta agree with Joe here. Bush seems to be a great fit for the Phins honestly imo.

  13. Dave Says:

    K2theSoldier

So how often does a “SPLASH” signing actually work? My guess is it is a pretty low percentage.

You wonder what Mark D is doing? He has Spurlock and 3 rookies signed already. He also has Black ready to sign and you know the offer to Joseph is coming.

  14. Dave Says:

Great to see Spurlock back… especially after a bogus report the other day that he might be heading out of town

  15. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

    @Dave

Joe’s not gonna like being accused of writing a “bogus report”. You should probably go back and read the post before putting him on blast…

He said it was a possibility, evidenced by only putting a right of first refusal tag on him…

  16. OAR Says:

Only thing I’d splash on Bush is miracle grow, he’s a shrub!

  17. K2theSoldier Says:

A splash for us would just be signing a freaking player to fill a need.
I understand that they’re almost certainly working behind the scenes and it’s only day 2, but it’s extremely frustrating how you STILL get the feeling that we’re afraid to splurge a little bit even with 50 million to spend.
Patience is a virtue, but I suck at it.

  18. OAR Says:

Glad to hear Spurlock will be returning(no pun intended)! Hopefully he continues to excel at WR, too!

  19. K2theSoldier Says:

Good to see Spurlock back though, very good to hear.

  20. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

    I feel ya, K2.

I didn’t expect us to go kill it in FA, but I’d have expected Joseph and the rest of the vets, the front office wants to keep, to be signed already.

There is another layer to this. All these “agreeing to terms” announcements on ESPN carry as much weight as an 18 year old’s verbal commitment to a college. Seems like a lot of teams are laying back and waiting until they can get pen to paper, before they “seal a deal.”

  21. D-Rome Says:

Great move. I’m glad the Bucs are bringing him back. He’ll help the Bucs win.

  22. BOb Says:

@hiregregolson= exactly! i said this on a previous post, it would be pretty stupid to stop listening to offers from teams just because you have “agreed to terms” with another one. you people actually think the agents would let that happen? yeah right!

just like the cba, nothing is done until the ink hits the paper. doug free or whoever else could definitely still become a buccaneer.

  23. Steve Graves Says:

GREAT news!!! Run Michael Run,,,,,and he can catch too. I too am getting no work done waiting on the “big” signings or agreements or just plain anything!!!! Alas…good things come to those who wait. (I hope)

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Patrick Says:

    @Bob

I live in Texas so I’m very informed about the Cowboys just as much as the Bucs. I’ll tell you right now that the Cowboys aren’t letting Doug Free go.

  25. BOb Says:

i wouldnt doubt it for one second, im just saying anything can happen and in some of these cases of “agreed terms” i wouldnt be surprised if another team comes in and makes a late play and snatches somebody away from someone else

  26. McBuc Says:

HGO…Davin and Co cannot sign until Friday, what’s the panic about? The rookies are the focus right now.

  27. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

    Keep up McBuc,

Yeah, but we haven’t “agreed to terms” with any of our vets, like the rest of the league has.

  28. Espo Says:

HGO, how would you suggest utilizing Derrick Ward correctly? Releasing him seemed to work wonders.

  29. Espo Says:

    This is great news.

I’ve been to a ton of Bucs games and there will be a few memories that will stick out. I will never forget not being able to see Spurlock’s first return because my uncle tackled me in celebration as soon as he broke through the hole. I was thinking, there has got to be a flag. There is always a flag.

  30. OAR Says:

    Hire
Quincy Black just signed 5 yr 29 mill deal, 11.5 mill guaranteed. I hope Joesph Davin is next(cant believe he wasnt before Black but..), and etc, and etc.

  31. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Black just agreed to a deal with the Bucs. 5 years, $29 million with $11.5 million guaranteed. Big contract. Bigger than most expected, that’s for sure.

  32. OAR Says:

    meant agreed, not signed

  33. BigMacAttack Says:

Yes this is good news. Clutch receiver that returns kicks effectively. Glad he’s back.

  34. Mauha Deeb Says:

@OAR Quincy didn’t sign anything. It is just an agreement to sign when free agency opens Friday.

  35. Mauha Deeb Says:

Woops! Didn’t see your correction. My bad, brother.

  36. JakeBucsFan Says:

    lol Oar, Joseph Davin?

I’m hoping that was a brain lapse and that you know his name is backwards there

  37. Danny Says:

I’m really glad Spurlock is coming back! He made alot of clutch catches last season as a WR & we need him as a returner. Now what I’m
wondering when they’re going to sign a punter! Our punter last yr
    was awful!

  38. OAR Says:

    Jake
Yes, I do. Sorry I spent the morning at the DMV! 3 1/2 hours and $48 later, I have new drivers license!

  39. OAR Says:

    Mauha
No worries, bro! See above. my brain was fried after that morning!
