Dixie Chicks Better Watch Their Backsides

July 21st, 2011

The Bucs were a horribly blown call away from the playoffs last year, losing out to the eventual Super Bowl champions on a tiebreakers.

While he doesn’t compare his team to the Packers, Josh Freeman is fond of pointing out the Bucs were tied with the champs at the end of the regular season.

Despite the blown call, others could point to two losses that shouldn’t have been to the Dixie Chicks last season. Per Eliot Harrison of NFL.com, the Dixie Chicks had better watch out this season.

Bucs fans have had to live all offseason with the memory of two very-hard-to-swallow home losses: Week 13 against the Falcons and Week 15 against the Lions. Both games should have belonged to Tampa Bay. This team could have finished 12-4, or at least 11-5, and bounced the Packers out of playoff contention. Much of the success was due to the Tampa triplets — second-year quarterback Josh Freeman (25 touchdowns, six interceptions), rookie running back LeGarrette Blount (1,007 yards, 5.0 yards per carry) and rookie wideout Mike Williams (964 yards, 11 touchdowns).

Harrison goes on to dare any NFL fan to name three better young triples on any team than Freeman, Williams and Blount.

Joe sure can’t come up with any.

Joe, you can’t name any, because there aren’t any.

  2. Garv Says:

Freeman, Williams and Blount? Joe, I’ve been a Buccaneer’s fan for a long long time and there no better three. Doug Williams, Kevin House and Ricky Bell? Brad Johnson, Key and Alstott/Dunn? Well, the triplets we have now could be better than those and IMO are right now, today.

Future looks good, very good, as there are many other players, young players to feel good about here as well.

Just reading the names is torture…I want the season to start NOW!!!!

  4. OB Says:

I just got through watching Super Bowl XXXVII and the 2002 season for my football fix and to remember when….

This is now and I can’t wait to see them go all the way.

  5. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Freeman, Williams & Blount are definitely the most exciting young Big 3 in the league. Now if Stafford can stay healthy they’ll also have a hell of a Big 3 with him, Best & Megatron (not to mention Leshoure & Young who they just drafted) but that’s a big if. The Bucs’ future is so bright I’m at my desk wearing shades, baby.

  6. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Actually, in 1982 the combinations would more likely have been Williams, House and Wilder, though Wilder was a rookie and didn’t play much. In 87-88, Testaverde, nobody and Carrier. Nothing in our history can hold a candle to the potential we have today.

  7. Capt.Tim Says:

Best young three in the league!! No matter how much we argue over Ruud, Talib, Nnamdi, etc, the truth is- it doesn’t really matter. As long as we have Freeman and the other young guns- everything gonna be allright! I think we can all agree on that !! Exciting times to be a Buc fan!

  8. Nate Says:

We deserved to lose those games we could not stop the run against the falcons! And coulnt against the lions at the end of the game either! Not to mention Calvin Johnson showing up against our DBS! I know the winslow catch was not fair but if we could of had a lil better defense maybe it woulndt come down to that.. As of right now the lions hold the advantage against us! Which is very sad… And now they have stafford and a stronger D line and stronger WRS… We better pray we sign some DBS…

  9. Dave Says:

Look for the next several years to be the best Bucs offense we have ever seen

    SIGN THE CBA ALREADY!!!

  10. Ian_620WDAE Says:

Schaub, Johnson, and Foster just sayin………

  11. Capt.Tim Says:

Offense is gonna be great! Defense is gonna be worse this year. No offseason with coached will kill our rookie/ first year player D-line. Foster also didn’t have any mini camps- so probably still stuck with Black and Hayes- who were terrible last year. Ruud – one of our best pass defenders, and QB of the Defense- will be gone. That’s gonna kill us. Ronde is older. Talib’s in deeper trouble. . .

Yeaaa offense- nothing but Joy and happiness on that side of the ball!!!

  12. Chris FWC :) Says:

Matt Schaub not young. Date of birth: June 25, 1981 (1981-06-25) (age 30)
Andre Johnson not young. Date of birth: July 11, 1981 (1981-07-11) (age 30)
Arian Foster. Date of birth: August 24, 1986 (1986-08-24) (age 24)

    1 for 3.

  13. Hunter Says:

@Ian_620WDAE: I was going to say that, and @Chris FWC :): Who cares how old they are? We are talking about right now, not in the future…

  14. OAR Says:

    Hunter and Ian
…….name three better “young” triples on any team……
Three guesses to which is the “key” word?

  15. Chris FWC :) Says:

@Hunter READ MOFO ‘dare any NFL fan to name three better YOUNG triples on any team’

    READ!

  16. Mauha Deeb Says:

Ian Beckles at it again. Schaub is not better than Freeman. If Foster can be considered better than Blount with one great season, than Blount can be considered better than Foster with one great season. Williams is not better than Johnson. All three Bucs are younger. The better group is the Bucs.
Beckles, just think before you speak for heaven’s sake. Your schtick is tired.

  17. thomas 2.2 Says:

I would call Ryan and Free a tie. I would take Roddy White over any buc receiver (maybe julio jones also) and I would call Turner and Blount close with Turner much more proven.

Brees, Colston, Bush/thomas/ingram aint too shabby either. Come to think of it: Newton, Smith and Stewart/williams is bound to be good.

  18. BigMacAttack Says:

Ian, I agree with the Foster & Johnson part, but Schaub has how many years in the league, and where will Freeman be after several years? It’s a scary thought because Freeman’s upside is way off the charts. Just Sayin…

  19. McBuc Says:

Thomas, why would you take an unprobven Jones over Williams? He may not adjust as fast to the NFL. Newton, Stewart, and Williams are bound to be good? Based on what? Freeman, Blount, and Williams are bound to be even better this year. You really are the worst Bucs fan ever. Oh, and the entire line up of Saints you chose are way to old to be in the conversation. Biggest fake Bucs fan ever!

  20. BigMacAttack Says:

Thomas is a fan of every team but this one. Suck it twerp. You and all of your other favorite teams are going down hard, and we’ll be right there to rub your little pig nose in it weekly.

  21. McBuc Says:

Oh, also Tom 2…we were talking about “triples”. He wanted you to find three better young triples. Jack ass!

  22. Ian_620WDAE Says:

Schaub, Johnson and Foster are either entering or they are already in their primes.

Freeman, Williams and Blount are still just potential until they do it again.

Back in 2005 we had another set of triplets called Simms, Clayton and Cadillac. and all three of them pooped on themselves.

So before we crown Freeman, Williams and Blount the next Aikman, Irvin and Smith lets see what they do in 2011, just sayin……..

  23. OAR Says:

    Just not listening…..

  24. Chris FWC :) Says:

LOL this isn’t Ian. Ian would be eating right now. Besides, the point is young talent. Not middle-aged men. 30 year old in the NFL is prime?

  25. thomas 2.2 Says:

Exactly my point Ian. Some of those 2010 numbers were put up against some very bad teams. Lets see what happens in 2011. I believe that free can play, the others- the signs are good but the jury just went out on them.

Sheep: Ask mike clayton and matt ryan if you always improve in your second season.

  26. barton1017 Says:

im new to this page & dont wanna rip anyone, but the question is better YOUNG triples, i see people talkin about Brees, Shaub, & Smith? come on guys this is a Bucs site, if u wanna talk about the division rivals as better young talent then join their page. the NFL loves the Falcons & Saints, well i say to hell with ANY team or player thats not a BUC. i gota hear about the freakin Rams 24-7 cuz i live in St.Louis and love this site cuz its dedicated to the Bucs, so PLEASE drop the love for other teams. BUC IT IM OUT

  27. FLBoyInDallas Says:

After we go 10-6 again this season and make the playoffs, the pessimists will be like, “Hey, the jury’s still out! Let’s not get hasty here and show any optimism! Ask so-and-so if players always improve in their third and fourth seasons.” And on and on we go.

    #douchebags

  28. BigMacAttack Says:

Tommy boy, now looka I say looka here, you’re about as sharp as a sack of wet mice.

  29. K2theSoldier Says:

Thanks Beckles and Thomas for coming around and throwing in the negative. Can always count on that. In the words of Beckles “jus saying…”
    Stick to radio home boy.

  30. tommy Says:

i see thomas is still an idiot!!!! go away dude, much like at your house nobody likes you or cares what you have to say

  31. Captain Stagger Says:

So what is the criteria for youth? Judging by some comments here I realized we are the only team with youth at all positions. I think the realism is that we are the youngest at the skill position.

Guessing if shaub is old, so is Holmes, Rothlisburger, Cassel?

  32. Tampa2 Says:

Agree with the best 3. But our lack of defense will be the achilles heel of any possitives those 3 make this year. And the defense will continue to be a problem until we get a legitimate HC/DC in place on the Bucs.

  33. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Not only do we already have a “legitimate” HC/DC in place but that particular HC/DC will again be in the running for Coach of the Year for a second year in a row. Doesn’t that just twist the nipples of all the Morris haters? I absolutely love it!
