Dining With Bucs Brass
July 28th, 2011Seems Bucs free agents Davin Joseph and Jeremy Trueblood were having a power dinner last tonight, as the duo were scheduled to dine with Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik and coach Raheem Morris.
No word on where they broke bread but Joe is guessing it wasn’t the La Teresita cafeteria or the Taco Bus (though a solid choice for grub, both).
Joe also wonders how long it took for the quartet to dispel of the niceties and get down to the real talk of dollars and cents and more importantly, putting pen to paper tomorrow?
Joe’s also guessing Raheem was trying out wine suggestions he got from his pal Merlot Joe Maddon.
This meeting between the four tells Joe it’s a good bet that Joseph and Trueblood will return to the Bucs, but Joe is guessing Trueblood might have to take a discount.
What do you think the tip was at this table?

To feed Trueblood and Joseph, it musts been a BIG table. That’s to big healthy guys! I’m glad to hear they will be back. May the best men win those 5 starting spots!, but you need every one before it’s done!

Trueblood probably got flagged for starting to eat before everyone else.

Trueblood committed at least one personal foul before desert… but the rockstar picked up the check so tipwise… $30

They broke bread at FlameStone Grill.

“Oh Justin, is this place FGU worthy?”
July 28th, 2011 at 8:45 am
They had chinese and Dom made truebloods fortune cookie read “one who false starts and fouls shall be bought on the cheap”
July 28th, 2011 at 8:47 am
Oh btw, fat Albert going to pats. Now will you finally sign someone Dom, since you slurp on the way they do business?
July 28th, 2011 at 8:52 am
Get em drunk, talk about the good times with better times to come.
“I love you Dom, we gonna win a Superbowl. Where do I sign?”
July 28th, 2011 at 8:54 am
Davin must have thought it was Raheem/Dom’s Dinner for Schmucks!

Well-played.

You know they went to Burns, Every major deal in buccaneers history has taken place in the upstairs Desert Room.
Tip? +/- 1g,
They have the 3rd larges wine selection on the east coast of the US. Bills can get out of control very quickly.

Pretty sure when they got up to leave, Trueblood received a False Start from the wait staff.

Am I wrong in getting frustrated with the Bucs doing nothing (yet) in FA? I’m excited we got our rookies signed but this seems like the time to create a buzz. I know were building our team through the draft but I can’t believe that there are not players out there that would upgrade certain positions. If I’m an owner and didn’t sell out a game, I would want to find a way to start getting the fans back ( I’m a season ticket holder) but it seems were doing nothing. Ive been watching the NFL network (do not watch ESPN ever) and the Bucs are not (why would they) being mentioned at all. I just think were missing a huge opportunity to not only upgrade certain positions but start winning fans back. I was all excited we got football back but now I feel bored Dominik is doing nothing in FA. Hell at least get our own guys (FA) signed. Where is all our money going to go?

Did someone say Taco Bus??

Brad:
This puzzles Joe. Since getting near-burned with Facestomper and totally burned with Derrick Ward, Dominik has since not been a free agent kinda guy, not the big-named free agents. Dominik is doing what Dominik does. Not a surprise.

Joe just got a phone call. Seems Greg Olson and Josh Freeman were at the dinner as well.
Rah put the fullcourt press on Davin Joseph it seems from this lineup.

JOE
Joe’s also guessing Raheem was trying out wine suggestions he got from his pal Merlot Joe Maddon.
LMFAO
July 28th, 2011 at 9:32 am
so that davin could hear it from Josh himself, when he was told that Freeman doesnt want Trueblood protecting him.
July 28th, 2011 at 9:33 am
Not sure why we have to wine and dine a guy that has said all along he wanted to stay here. But ok!! ??
July 28th, 2011 at 9:35 am
They both look like BIG steak guys to me.
Trueblood has really cut down on the penalties the last couple years.
I think Mark D and Raheem were able to get a good wine selection from Merlot Joe because I have a feeling Joe is drinking ALOT more these days.

Brad, we’ve known all along that Dominik’s goal was to focus on our own FA’s. This bitterness about not having some big FA signing by the Bucs is understandable, I used to get the same way, but this isn’t ever going to be a team linked to tons of FA’s as long as Dominik is in charge. What Dominik has done so far is working great so I think it’s time that some people on this site need to sit back and embrace the young guys that are going to grow with this team rather than always looking for greener pastures out there in the FA market.
Within a couple years, the Bucs will be the cream of the crop in the NFL and other teams fans will be jealous.

Joe – with free agents not being able to report til monday, is there a hurry up reason for signing? As long as they are dickering, people are not going to sign until they get the best deal they can plus the Bucs are going to the playoffs, a lot of troopers want a ring and this is the only way to get it, with a team in the playoffs.
As to minimum cap, don’t be surprised if Josh Freeman, Mike Williams, and Blount get extended contracts now with a large increase to lock them up for years. Mark and Raheem are no dummies, there might be others also.

@Brad, You are not wrong for getting frustrated, but Joe is right, this is Dom’s way. There is no bigger supporter of Dom and his rebuilding program than I am. But, I am on record stating that at some point building through the draft will peak. No Espo, I will not drag out the dreaded Ice Cream analogy, but there is a difference in building the neucleus of a contender and putting the finishing touches on a playoff team. If Dom is truly a student of Bellichick, then he will know this. It is obvious to me that Dom does not believe that the Bucs are at a point in their evolution to make a serious run at a SuperBowl as he has not, at this point, made a splash in FA given that he has the pocketbook to do so.

We really do not know, since all you are hearing about is hand shake deals and rumors. We will know tomorrow, when the FA crowd is able to sign with teams. I just want to see some football, and it is not just Dom…the Bucs have never been huge FA fans. The argument for the SB team is valid, but known of those guys were huge free agents at the time…just free agents.
