Da’Quan Bowers Officially A Bucs Defensive End

July 27th, 2011

No need to rely on Adam Schefter. Joe has all the confirmation he needs and it comes straight from the primary source.

Bucs second round pick Da’Quan Bowers has Twittered that he has signed his first professional NFL contract with the Bucs.

@DaQuanBowers93 Feels good to finally be a buc officially…. Dotted line signed ….

Now comes the interesting part: Bowers has to show up in public. To date, he has been more rumor than fact. He wouldn’t go to the rookie symposium in Bradenton and he wouldn’t show up to Josh Freeman’s minicamp. Joe’s good friend Justin Pawlowski has been the only guy locally to talk to Bowers.

Now, Bowers’ agent can no longer shield him.

  3. BucFan941 Says:

    twitter is everyone’s sources these days

  4. Brad Says:

    That’s awesome!! Now go and get our FA’s signed and go get some new FA’s which should have been done first IMO ..

  5. nick Says:

    welcome mr. bowers

  6. Tampa--->Baaaaaaayyyy Says:

    Corner Back please.

    Another LB would be nice too.

  7. Anthony Says:

    100% agree with Tampa—>Baaaaaaayyyy corner back PLEASE!!! #1 need–Not begging for Nnamdi, though he would be nice.

  8. tony2cents Says:

    It looks like we got most/all of the rookies taken care of. It’s time to lock down some vets now.

    After Davin, I say we have another go at Free. Let’s throw off Jerry Jones’ FA agenda.

  9. Mauha Deeb Says:

    @Brad Teams can’t sign unrestricted free agents till Friday. Everything you are hearing about Black, Doug Free,etc are agreements, not signings.

  10. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

    LOL…looks like I’m popular with the short-bus crew.

    Hope to see Da’Quann out at practice on Friday…

    To all the whiny fans (mostly on WDAE and their facebook statuses) that acted so emotionally distressed over the lockout, wasn’t the lockout completely worth getting a rookie wage scale?? No having to worry about rookie holdouts.

    I’ll give up the Hall of Fame Game for that any day…

  11. ScottyinCali Says:

    Davin is having dinner with Trueblood and the Bucs within the hour.

  12. FLBoyInDallas Says:

    Yes it was worth getting a rookie wage scale.

  13. FLBoyInDallas Says:

    Since we usually carry 6 LB’s on the active roster and we already have 5 signed (Black, Hayes, Watson, Foster, McKenzie) I’m very curious to see who ends up taking that final LB spot. Ruud? Hayward? Free agent?

  14. Dew Says:

    Does that mean he passed his physical?

    We’re going to be making some very interesting signings. There is no way around it. Stay tuned.

  15. tony2cents Says:

    wonder if Dom will make the agents sit at the kiddy table like its Thanksgiving

  16. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

    I know some people are comfortable with Bowers and Clayborn starting at DE, but I agree with the Joe who wants to sign a veteran DE (although I think Ray Edwards is overrated and is kidding himself if he thinks he deserves a better deal than Charles Grant, who didn’t really deserve the deal he got) and rotate the rookies at RE.

    DE’s don’t translate that well to the NFL their first year. It’s hard to imagine that our run defense will get better with two rookies (3 if you’re counting Price, but will he even play? I know Dom said he won’t start the year on the PUP, but can you say that for sure?), GK (who hasn’t played a full season) and Roy Miller??

    Adding a veteran DT and/or DE, as well as a veteran MLB, will do way more for this defense than adding Asomugha alone…

  17. Thomas "the Truth" 2.2 Says:

    If his knee turns out to NOT be an issue, he will be many times the player and producer of Clayborn. I am cautiously optimistic about DaQuaun.

  18. Mauha Deeb Says:

    Right there with you, Thomas. I see Bowers as an immediate upgrade if healthy.

  19. CaliBucFan Says:

    @Dew

    According to this http://www.baynews9.com/article/sports/2011/july/285456/DaQuan-Bowers-Cleared-For-Training-Camp

    Bowers passed the physical.

  20. BigMacAttack Says:

    This is the guy that I am anxious to see on the field. Awesome, can’t wait. Steal of the Draft.

  21. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

    “We signed Da’quann Bowers!!! Just like we predicted!!!” – Pete Doucher & Brandon

  22. chrisfwc. :) Says:

    I hope Bower’s knee can take a seasons worth of pounding and abuse. If he’s anything like he was at Clemson Olinemen will need to chop his knees to slow him down.

  23. YesSirTampa Says:

    Tampa Needs to make Some News ! ! Where you at Tampa. A lot of Players moving and going.

  24. MOBucs Says:

    Just saw that too ScottyinCalilooks. Awesome! Looks like Joseph and Trueblood are coming back! Dom wasn’t lying about dining with his own FAs! Their out to dinner as we type!

  25. TopDoggie Says:

    @Thomas I agree 100%

  26. thegregwitul Says:

    I like what I’m reading; top three picks already signed and ready to go and Dominik wining and dining (in lieu of signing) Joseph and Trueblood. I hope to see a splash signing (Reggie Bush if he’s cut or Darren Sproles) and perhaps one more LB picked up for depth, but so far I’m pleased with Mark Dominik’s work. Yeah, we likely aren’t picking up Nnamdi (if we target a CB it should be Jonathan Joseph), but you have to be optimistic at the future of this team compared to two or three years ago. I know I am.

  27. Dew Says:

    @CaliBucFan. Awesome.

    Now we’re going to see some other awesome signings. MLB, RB, DE, DL, T, ……… Fun for all with the money we have to spend.

  28. Macabee Says:

    @HGO, From time to time because we’re human we make unintended mistakes. Now I know that in your last post you meant Charles Johnson instead of Charles Grant. So I will take this opportunity to show empathy and brotherly love in this harsh and acrimonius world we live in. (Just kidding, but it is something to consider the next time one of our fellow posters make an honest mistake)

  29. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

    @Macabee

    Dually noted.

  30. tommy Says:

    shore up gilmore for blocking!!! we need it! dude may not make splah plays but there is not a better blocking TE in the leauge!!..GO BUCS!!!!

  31. McBuc Says:

    I have to agree with HGO. A vet or two on the d line would be nice.

  32. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

    Bowers was the steal of the NFL Draft. This is a great day for Tampa Bay!

  33. Dave Says:

    I REALLY hope Bowers pans out.

    If he doesn’t… so be it… it was worth the gamble at that point in the draft and I do not want to see people talking about “bust”

    If he does play up to 3/4ths of his hype for 5-6 eyars or more, steal of the draft.

    He passed his physical with the Bucs and I hope he comes in and ties himself to the hips of Clayborne & McCoy.

    One concern for me is Mayock’s assesment. I think he is the best draft analyst out there and even before the knee concerns he was not sold on Bowers as being one of the top 7-8 DEs in the draft.

    As with everyone …. we shall see.

    (the optimist in me tells me this guy might be playing with a big chip on his shoulder)
