Winslow, Benn Impress At Secret Training Camp
May 24th, 2011Josh Freeman is determined to keep his young teammates sharp and free of distractions.
That’s the word from NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas, whose BSPN employee badge impressed Freeman enough to allow Yasinskas access to the Bucs’ top secret mini camp. Yasinskas explained that Freeman asked him to keep the location under wraps.
There are good nuggets in the story, but Joe was most impressed by Kellen Winlsow’s apparent dedication.
Speaking of peers, who has caught Freeman’s eye in the workouts?
“I will say [receiver] Sammie Stroughter is having an incredible offseason,’’ Freeman said. “So is [tight end] Kellen Winslow. Arrelious is obviously coming off his [torn ACL] injury, but he’s looking great as well. We have a number of guys playing great football right now. Kellen Winslow is just a guy that’s so impressive. He’s a guy that comes in and works out in the morning, then comes and gets the throwing part in, and then he goes and works out some more.’’
Considering Winslow has spent a lot of time in past offseasons in California, Joe thinks it’s pretty cool that he’s in town and setting a positive example. And Benn doing significant running five months after his surgery is a great sign.

I would’ve thought this made you happy. Apparently Freeman listened to you.

May 24th, 2011 at 10:18 am
I cannot believe that only the three mention were/are there.
May 24th, 2011 at 10:30 am
This is all good news except Williams… I thought for sure with the connection he and Free made last year he’d be all in….
May 24th, 2011 at 10:49 am
Just because freeman didn’t mention him by name, doesn’t mean he’s not there.
May 24th, 2011 at 10:49 am
Hang in there Joe, your turn will come.Be patient
May 24th, 2011 at 10:55 am
Joe here,
@Patrick & @Buc’nAwesome — You guys (and others) are priceless. Look, Joe wasn’t and isn’t seeking a personal invitiation to Bucs workouts. Frankly, Joe probably wouldn’t even be able to make it. However, Joe wrote the open letter to Freeman this weekend to encourage Freeman to reconsider keeping everything top secret — for the good of the fans and the good of the team, not for the good of Joe. https://www.joebucsfan.com/?p=48390
Hopefully, Freeman will open them up at some point.

He was asked who was impressing him, not who was there. I believe they said that all the offensive Skill position guys were in attendance, except the unsigned rookies
May 24th, 2011 at 11:01 am
he was quoted as helping to arange for mike to be there, different people are there at different times he made that clear in the article, also dont forget mike williams is in conneticut(or one of those states in the frozen tundra) this offseason, not exactly 1 plane ride away that said, he needs to move down here to a hotel and be at all of these, freeman seemed a little peeved in the quotes that he wasnt down there already
May 24th, 2011 at 11:04 am
Don’t be discouraged Joe…I’m sure you’ll get more access eventually.
May 24th, 2011 at 11:04 am
In the full article Joe linked Freeman specifically said Mike W was not there.
Pat referenced Josh talking to a player on the phone how to get to the undisclosed location.
Directly from the article PY wrote:
“Where’s [receiver] Mike [Williams]?’’ Freeman said into his cellphone. “Have you talked to Mike? We need to find out when he’s coming in.’’
obviously Mike Isn’t there YET
May 24th, 2011 at 11:05 am
Great news
May 24th, 2011 at 11:39 am
Regarding Mike Williams, that just means he wasn’t there THAT DAY.
May 24th, 2011 at 11:40 am
Joe here,
@BucFan66 – No clue what you’re talking about.
May 24th, 2011 at 11:42 am
@Joe: He’s referencing the fact the Pat Y. got access to these workout while you, who lamented about making them public a few days ago, didn’t.
He’s just being annoying.

I guess there are bloggers and then there are bloggers, amiright Joe?
May 24th, 2011 at 12:01 pm
I wonder if Raheem’s eerily look alike cousin was there coaching.
May 24th, 2011 at 12:30 pm
Love hearing about Winslow working with Free. If they can be on the same page when the season starts, the offense will be scary good!
May 24th, 2011 at 12:41 pm
Lets hope Blount is there learning some protections and pickups
May 24th, 2011 at 12:45 pm
@Flmike, amen! that and running downhill on goal line.
May 24th, 2011 at 1:00 pm
Yeah our goalline offense was hiddeous last year, you would think a back his size would pound it in.
May 24th, 2011 at 2:01 pm
Atrain- I think that’s our new rookies job. Looks like he wants it, Too!
Great to hear Benn is out running!! Man! Williams ,Benn, Briscoe, and Winslow! Backed up by Stroughter, Parker, and Stocker!
We’ve never had that much talent in our recording Corp! Its gonna be fun watching this develop- headed up by the real key stone – Josh Freeman!
Like Tampa Bay has never seen before!
May 24th, 2011 at 2:43 pm
Capt
“We’ve never had that much talent in our recording Corp!”
Yeah, I can’t wait for thier first hit single and album!
May 24th, 2011 at 3:53 pm
Here’s a very real scenario:
a defense comparable to the 2000-2003 era Bucs D, with a high octane, high power offense led by 2, 1000 yd WRs, a 500-750 yd TE, and a true 5+ ypc power back, anchored by a 4k yard passer with 35 tds/10 or less ints.
May 24th, 2011 at 4:16 pm
flmike-
With that statement, all of New Orleans, Atlanta and Carolina just wet their pants.
May 24th, 2011 at 4:34 pm
I don’t know about the division opponents, but I sure did!
May 24th, 2011 at 4:54 pm
Whats so great is, that offense is in place, today, right now, hopefully with our new shiny DE’s and new shiny LB the D will catch up this season.
May 24th, 2011 at 4:56 pm
Maybe our guys can rmake the magic of “HAY HAY TAMPA BAY, THE BUCS KNOW HOW TO SHINE!” or HAY HAY HAY We’re the Buccaneers!”
May 24th, 2011 at 5:02 pm
flmike and McBuc
EXACTLY!!!
May 24th, 2011 at 5:05 pm
Mike, thats a championship team you just described. I love it. Are headaches an official stat? I think our 5ypc RB will cause a lot of headaches.
May 24th, 2011 at 5:05 pm
I miss “Yo ho ho, we’re the Pewter Pirates, and off to the playoffs, we will go.”
May 24th, 2011 at 8:52 pm
Ya’ll go easy on the Capt’n, he’s probably getting his physical therapy down in the forecastle, and still bouncing around a little.
May 24th, 2011 at 8:54 pm
…or he may have been poking the wench in her lazarette.
May 24th, 2011 at 8:58 pm
…and forgot turn of the video recorder in the wheel house. Argh Matey.
