THE PESSIMIST: Hard Knocks Pass Is Incomplete
May 17th, 2011THE PESSIMIST is a diehard Bucs fan whose negative writings appear occasionally on JoeBucsFan.com. His views surely do not necessarily reflect those of Joe. However, Joe sure gets a kick out of them.
Timeout.
Our beloved Buccaneers ripped a home game from local fans and the stadium they paid to build in the name of marketing the team in England and getting more exposure for the young club. That was the company line.
Yet now, a handful of weeks later, the Bucs have turned down the offer to be on HBO’s Hard Knocks series and captivate the entire United States and legions of casual Bucs fans around Tampa. Those same fans that haven’t watched a Bucs home game on TV since Tampa Bay was clobbered routinely in 2009.
Something stinks worse than the Angelo Crowell signing. (Oh, wait, the Bucs braintrust knows knee injuries).
THE PESSIMIST can’t be the only one sniffing this Hard Knocks pile of garbage. The Bucs went from scratching and clawing for the spotlight, even swimming across the Atlantic, and now they’re running away from it faster than Aqib Talib speed dials his lawyer.
The Bucs may call themselves fan-friendly, but taking away a home game and denying fans access on Hard Knocks aren’t pro-fan moves.
What’s next? Fewer training camp dates open to the public?
THE PESSMIST wants to know exactly what the Bucs were afraid of when it came to Hard Knocks. What does the team so eager for recognition and attention think third-year coach Raheem Morris couldn’t handle?
Of course, THE PESSMIST won’t get an answer, just the comfort of watching a nation of soccer fans tailgate while he can’t.

Exposure is good.
Distracting exposure is bad.
What’s so hard to understand?

I am not surprised at all. Why would we want to add exposure via a tv show? If we win games, that is all the exposure we need.
This show isn’t for true football fans, anyways. It is for media type gossip whores who care more about the drama than the game. Basically, it is for the Pat Yasinkas of the world.

I still think the team made a deal with the NFL for taking the London home game. In exchange, they got national spotlight home games on MNF against the Colts and Saturday night at home against the Cowboys. Plus potential national Sunday afternoon games vs Saints and Falcons.

Let me think, youngest team in the NFL, super hype show that loves controversy, trying to meld all the new and second year guys to gether with two new D-line coaches, what should I do?
Oh, fans have to pay for HBO every month to see – nah I think we will pass and concentrate on winning instead of looking good, besides most of the USA doesn’t commute to the Bucs’ games.

Why would someone that b*itches so much, care?????????????????

Unless nobody is watching, this is a moot point, it doesn’t matter – it is highly unlikely there will even be a pre-season. Some analyst, ie, Chris Collingsworth believes we will have a shortened season beginning as late as November.

They made the right call. As much as we would all like to see them on them on Hard Knocks you are a moron if you take the youngest coach and the youngest QB in the NFL and think they should be under the microscope of the cameras. Give us a couple of years to jell. p.s. Joe do you have any idea how much the owners get paid for the game over the pond?

McSID:
Joe is not sure but it clearly must be worth it in the eyes of Team Glazer.

It must be some big $$$. Tickets, merch, parking, food… Still waiting on my season ticket refund. Hopefully it will be only for one game and not a season.

Have not recieved mine either…. Maybe they’ll discount it off of next years games, you know… when we’ll actually get back to football.

Hey PESSIMIST,
Its simple TEAM DEVELOPMENT > EXPOSURE. Great decision by the Bucs.
How is it that you are a “die-hard” Bucs fan, yet you seem to complain about everything we do?
May 17th, 2011 at 2:53 pm
If it’s got your goat it was probably the right call.

“Oh, wait, the Bucs braintrust knows knee injuries”
LMAO!!!!!

oh Pessimist, what a conspiracy theorist you are. I couldn’t be happier that, assuming there is an offseason, the Bucs will be preparing for the season with that much less of a distraction. But you believe they are hiding something…
funny really

Angelo Crowell ..i forgot about that…mmm..still tho i love my team

They don’t need Hard Knocks this year for “national attention”. When they accepted the national game in London, they also got 2 other national games in the deal, and possibly as many as 5 or 6. Let them get their exposure on the field when playing hard and winning counts, not showboating and being a ham.

I was in favor of the Hard Knocks thing as well, but honoestly I’m not upset over the Bucs turning it down…I can see both sides of the issue. That’s what I always TRY to do…don’t always succeed though.
