NFL Hikes Jersey Prices, Hates Fans

Frankly, the headline says it all.
In the face of the heinous lockout engineered by the fan-second NFL, replica jerseys at NFLShop.com now have jumped in price to $84.99, up from $79.99 earlier this year. The glorified, often Guatamalan-made mesh trash bag with numbers and letters on it was always overpriced anyway, but to hike jersey rates in the face of the lockout is just too much.
A few friendly phone operators on the NFL Shop telephone line confirmed the price increase on replica jerseys, and on additional official gear.
Nice job, Commissioner.

I also want the rant! This is pissing on us, and saying it’s rain! The NFL has lost all respect, or even consideration, for the fans. You are watching a bunch of rich idiots kill their Golden Goose, with an air of total arrogance!

ebay is best for used jerseys. I’ll never buy a new one, maybe for $40. I’d go with #5.
As fans, can’t we start our own league. Make it like the Packers have where the people own and rule on the team. How much fun would that be?

It doesn’t really matter to me…I’m too poor to buy one for $20 at this point…so they were already out of reach.
On a side not, Captain Tim, I kind of agree about the respect thing, but I think it applies to the players as well at this point.

i would like to point out… that this may be an economic thing (dont hit me yet listen to my argument) im not defending them, im saying look around, everything is going up in price, its not that things are suddenly more expensive (except of course production/shipping costs because of Gas prices) but OUR DOLLAR is worth less than it was 10 years ago. it would be unrealistic to look at the gas pump and see prices go up, at grocery stores, at everywhere else, and expect the business that is NFL jerseys NOT increase price. I would actually argue that the price is about the same, but one dollar today isnt worth what one dollar was 5 years ago… i bet if you were to look at the price in terms of gold the price would be unchanging (jerseys to Gold) and i bet they even delayed the hike for as long as possible i bet economically they should have increased prices MORE, but its clear now that our economy isnt just going to correct itself quickly and they have to live in this reality.

It’s disgusting how they handle this, by making us the Puppet. What other business handles it’s labor disputes in public, and try to use their customers as a weapon during negotiations? And worst of all, our money is payingvfor this theatrical farce!

I had a conversation yesterday with a buddy of mine and I suggested the league cut the prices of ALL merchandise by 50% until the lockout is over to try and garner some positive PR (and juice sales).
A day later they do this. Just brilliant

Yep, I’m sure if there were a freeze on advertizing dollars and Joe’s only major source of income were selling JoeBucFan.Com T-shirts, he might consider raising the price a buck or two until the advertising revenue started rolling in again…. but what the hell, let’s blame Roger Goodell, he’s an easy target right now. After all, nobody wanted to lock the players out, but Goodell stood up to the owners and said YES, we MUST lock them out. The owners liked the former CBA, but Roger Goodell said NO, it’s NOT good enough, we MUST opt out. The devil incarnate, I tell you….. (sarcasm). whatever….

Well who are you going to bash? Somebody is responsible for this mess. Personally I blame the players’ union and their leadership. The players seem to be taking an all or nothing approach. The Owners have opted for nothing until the players are willing to compromise. Honestly, is there one player in the NFL that is underpaid? I think not and the rookie wage is what the players should be attacking. Big Pay before you play. That is the stupidest thing on the planet, really. What is it, like 85% of the revenue goes to 15% of the players. OMG, I sound like a Democrat. Maybe that 85% should be attacking that 15%, eh. Bring on the Scabs. I hope and pray that players start to break ranks and bail on this stupid lawsuit THEY have Filed. Unions Suck.

No, that was sarcasm. The owners opted out. They felt the previous cba was too generous. Goodell did not make any of those decisions. He may have recommended the lockout to the owners to safeguard against huge anti-trust suits. Goodell doesn’t necessarily make the rules,he enforces them. The owners have a rules committee. Goodell is a figure head for the league and a rules enforcers, that’s about it.

I know you’re an excellent stat guy. Are there any stats for last year regarding Josh Freeman being sacked on third downs? Pressures? I know Cadi was his primary backfield protector and I can’t count how many times Cadi blocked a blitz and seemed to do a really good job helping Freeman. And we all know how many clutch plays Josh made to K2 on big 3’rd downs, etc. I don’t know if there are stats for any of that or where they would be. I think the Bucs will weigh that heavily in there decision on Cadi, being that protecting Josh is a top priority. As you can tell, I don’t want to see Cadi go, bad knees or not.

There are a couple sites that I’m sure have those specific stats, but I don’t have premium membership to either to have access. Both FootballOutsiders and ProFootballFocus would be likely to track specifics like down and distance and pressure and blocking, etc. So, to know how many times Freeman was blitzed on 3rd down and more than 3 yards, and how many of those blitzers were blocked by Caddy (or blocks missed) or how often Caddy defeated the blitz by catching a swing pass to turn a negative into a positive…. that’s more in depth than I have access to. Although I think the number of successful blitz pickups by Caddy and number of positive plays on 3rd down by Caddy when there was a blitz would be pretty high. I also would love to have him back this season. His role has changed and he’s adapted VERY well.

I did think about taking my old Gaines Adams jersey and Getting a Miller Piece made to go over it. Instead I bought a GMC instead of a Chevy.
