Advantage Saints In NFC South, Faine Says
May 25th, 2011The esteemed Bucs captain Jeff Faine says there’s a team in the NFC South that’s got a serious edge if the NFL Lockout extends deep into the summer or beyond.
Sadly, he’s not on the same page as rockstar general manager Mark Dominik, who had said he believes the Bucs’ youth will give them a post-lockout advantage.
Faine likes the Saints, so he told J.P. Peterson on WQYK-AM 1010 Tuesday evening.
J.P. Peterson: Looking around your division, you think anyone would have an advantage [if the lockout extends to late August]?
Faine: Yeah, I think that New orleans, especially, with the pieces that they’ve had in place for some time. Not much change. You’ve got a hell of a quarterback that’s leading his team in an offseason program. Those guys have played together for some time. They’ve had the same coordinator in Sean Payton and also the head coach for some time. I don’t think there’s a better duo when it comes to head coach/offensive coordinator/quarterback relationship in the league than those two.
Faine may be exactly right, but his style of presenting himself as captain of the Bucs makes Joe ill.

Fortunately, the need for this guy is getting less and less all the time. It’s not like he can finish a season anyway. Don’t go away mad, Faine. Just go away.
May 25th, 2011 at 2:55 pm
I’m sick of this guy
May 25th, 2011 at 2:58 pm
So it is good that the Saints are practicing and that will help give them an advantage going into the season yet he won’t practice with Freeman because he sees no point in it.
Am I the only one seeing this because he just comes off worthless as a player let alone a captain to me. I think he is afraid of getting hurt and having no medical coverage.

Is it just me or does this want to make anyone else PUKE? I would like to see Dom or Rah tell Faine to go back and play for the Aints. It’s one thing to think it, but another to say it on the air. Clearly a case of Candidness is next to Dumbassness.

I used to be a really big Faine fan. Smart dude, entrepreneurial, solid center. Can’t really blame the guy for getting hurt. S*** happens. However, I am not a fan of how he’s been handling his business over this offseason and lockout. I just wish there were mini camps going on right now so Zuttah could be working out and taking snaps. Do you think Freeman wants a guy like this protecting him? They way things are going, Faine may be a memory come week 1.
May 25th, 2011 at 3:03 pm
How is he going to get hurt anyway? Let me guess, Freeman pulls his hands back to soon and Jeff shoves the ball up his own @$$. That would be bad because I might get a bloody nose or put an eye out. D-Bag.
May 25th, 2011 at 3:05 pm
Joe, do you know what Indochina slave labor camp Faine buys his shirts and slacks wholesale from?
May 25th, 2011 at 3:07 pm
RichinNC:
Joe isn’t aware of any Drew Brees’ teammates going on New Orleans radio mocking Brees for setting up team workouts.

Joe here,
@Jimmy – No clue. But Joe’s heard the Pakistani cottons are very soft.
May 25th, 2011 at 3:09 pm
Wow even reading the quote you can tell he admires that coach/QB combo more than the one he plays for! What a loser.
Cut all the deadweight. Faine, Styles, Stovall, Mack on the list so far.
ALL OF THEM HAVE TO GO!
I dont care who takes their place, any young hungry kid is better than these morons!

It just dawned on me that there may be a method to Faine’s madness or erratic responses during the off-season. His complimentary words for the Saints comes as close to a put-down of his own coaching staff as I have ever read. Ted Larsen was originally brought in as a center and we know that Zuttah can play the position, so maybe he is trying to signal his interest in New Orleans if he thinks that he may be in jeopardy as a Buc. I don’t think Larsen is big enough for RG in Morris’ new run-first offense. Faine is no dummy – he’s hurt too much and gets handled too often to figure he’s a lock to make this team.
May 25th, 2011 at 3:11 pm
If you still liked Faine despite his underwhelming performance on the field, you certainly don’t like him now.
May 25th, 2011 at 3:11 pm
I’m starting to think this is Faine’s last year with the team.
May 25th, 2011 at 3:13 pm
Faine is Probably right. But no way in he’ll do I want a captain on my team feeling that way, let alone Saying it to the Buc Faithful!!
Ted Larsen is a center. He played very well at guard. But he would be a great center for us.
Let’s get a Mike Webster/ Terry Bradshaw kinda thing going with Josh and Ted. Let’em spend the next ten years together playing inverted catch! Mr. Faine can follow to where his heart is apparently leading. He’s a good center, but aging and falling apart. And not really Buc committed apparently!

Joe/Admin…
I missed a Freeman interview on Sirius – the blitz.
Chances you are going to post it?
(Faine is done IMO…)
May 25th, 2011 at 3:28 pm
I think his last name should be spelled Feign!

Not a Rocket Surgeon:
Joe has been swamped and away from the radio. What show was it on?
May 25th, 2011 at 3:38 pm
Not a Rocket Surgeon:
Freeman was on with Schein and Gannon at noon. Joe will try to get a transcript.
May 25th, 2011 at 3:43 pm
I think Mr. Faine is on his way out.
May 25th, 2011 at 4:36 pm
Hey Jeff, don’t you have some cheap clothes to peddle at the swap meet?
May 25th, 2011 at 4:59 pm
dude. this guy sounds like Styles.
May 25th, 2011 at 5:45 pm
Its obvious that the saints and falcons will be favorites over this collection of question marks.
May 25th, 2011 at 5:51 pm
faine is such a joke he wont take part in practice and now he runs his mouth about his old team? give me a break let this injured big mouth lazy bum go back to brees tit in new orleans then. its pathetic this guy is a captain
May 25th, 2011 at 6:10 pm
Everyone sees that Faine praises Drew Breeze as a veteran leader for leading an offseason program yet he will not participate in one himself even though he is a team captain. He might have written his ticket out of Tampa. Jeff whats up? Please don’t be a hypocrite!! Wait until your introduced coming out of the tunnel. (Provided you aren’t shown the door by then.)
May 25th, 2011 at 6:28 pm
You know, for some reason I was thinking Zuttah was almost as old as Faine…seems like he’s been here years. But Faine is 30, Zuttah is 24.
I still think we should hold on to Faine for at least one more season. The last thing we need is Zuttah to not be ready yet. I say, keep Faine and keep getting Zuttah some playing time.
Eventually, make Zuttah the starter IF he continues to earn it.
May 25th, 2011 at 6:51 pm
As far as him being team captain, with the lack of veterans on the team, I’m not sure if they have much choice…unless another vet is eventually signed.
May 25th, 2011 at 8:14 pm
players dont run thier mouths like this unless they have an agenda. faine wants out and chances are he’ll get his wish.
May 25th, 2011 at 8:30 pm
so are we trying to run him out of town? if so, i’m in…
May 25th, 2011 at 9:52 pm
Faine is an a-hole I hope we trade his arse
May 26th, 2011 at 12:14 am
@Pete: All of that is correct. Zuttah’s got work to do yet. What I’m hoping is that Faine is phased out over the next season with Zuttah or Larsen starting in ’12
May 26th, 2011 at 12:42 am
The Bucs need to have a new player rep. I vote to have Freeman. What a knucklehead Faine has turned into. If I was Dominik I’d be pissed that this arsehole is not working with the other guys. What a selfish act. He obviously would rather be with Saints so send his arse packing. What a dic!

Brad:
Please make sure you read Joe’s lead story tomorrow morning.
May 26th, 2011 at 9:04 am
DUO = 2 people… Surely Faine meant to say Trio which means 3
May 26th, 2011 at 9:40 am
Joe here,
@MARK — Actually, since Sean Payton calls the plays and is head coach, that is a duo — Brees and Payton.
