Blah, Blah, There’s A Question At Long Snapper
April 23rd, 2011Joe sifted through gobs of reader email after word came out Thursday that Bucs long snapper and special teams captain Andrew Economos popped an Achilles tendon.
Some wanted Joe to hurry up and get all over that critical, breaking news.
Of course, Joe feels bad for Economos, but Joe struggles to get excited enough to write about such an insignificant happening. Joe often follows a simple rule: if it doesn’t arouse Joe, then it doesn’t appear on the blog, at least not with any urgency.
Should the Bucs be able to find another capable long snapper and part-time special teams player with months of notice? Absolutely!
If Mark Dominik can’t get that done, then he’s not the rock star some think he is.

You spelled capable: capapble. … The iPad almost didn’t allow me to spell it wrong.

A long snapper (a consistent and good one) is not a trivial position. When we lose a game thanks to a botched long snap I wonder if Joe will change his tune?
Hopefully all will work out but this injury is by no means “an insignificant happening”.

No wonder we see pics of Rachel Watson on here so often. The hell with Economos, we need more Rachel!!

I’m sure most of our offensive lineman have long snapped at some point during their career. I don’t think it’ll be an issue.

I guess the comment traffic proves your point Joe…And to the dude above, Joe has not given us many Rachel pics as of late, we could use a Rachel Watson week in the “Morning Cup of Joe”.

Hey joe, ask Tom Coughlin, Tiki Barber and the rest of the 02 Giants if a long snapper is important…..

Fanobit:
Joe never suggested a long snapper is not important. Joe’s saying there are all sorts of offensive linemen and centers that can be plugged in.

Hey Joe, ( btw- its fan ofKit ) yes, others can b e plugged in, but not without risking the stability needed for long term succes.
