Mason Foster To Rescue Bucs Linebackers?

April 29th, 2011

Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik has decided to go back to the PAC-10 to mine some more help on the defensive side of the ball, tagging Washington outside linebacker Mason Foster.

Foster is a tackling machine, second in the nation in tackles per game.

Joe doesn’t believe Dominik will spend a draft pick on a guy on the offensive side of the ball. Nor should he. Time to load up on linebackers and secondary help.

Hey, Joe’s all for any ballhawk linebacker. Dude that averages nine tackles a game can’t be too shabby.

yes what a pick i love this draft so far just like last years

  2. Weneeddefense Says:

Mark could not have played this draft any better.

He is absolutely addressing the Buccaneers needs.

This draft is absolutely what the Bucs needed up front.

I like this draft very, very much!

  3. Jrock Says:

No TE or OL love in the later rounds? I’ll bet a dollar to a donut they pick someone from one of those positions round 6-7!

  4. justin Says:

    oh ya go lightning

  5. Pete Dutcher Says:

I still want Casey Matthews, but I love this pick!

I completely understand why they took this guy. He is a superb Blitzer and great tackler. He’s good against the run.

He’s also a strong guy. Expect him to at least partially solve the problem with stopping the run, and really, really expect him to help the DEs get to the QBs or for him to get there.

    Love this pick.

  6. Weneeddefense Says:

I am so happy about this draft I am gonna hand out the olive branch to Raheem Morris.

Let’s hope our defense can get stout this year!

Joe, I’ll stop giving you sh!t too…. Maybe.

  7. Hector Says:

    Joe,

You know what makes the bucs GM so good at this. he is letting the draft come to him and not moving up for anyone. but damn it let go and get Marcus Cannon RT/OG TCU the dude is a beast!!!

  8. Joe H. Says:

I’m thinking he won’t wear #40 as a Buccaneer. Good to see a tough LB taken.

  9. Bucbeliever Says:

Dominik is elite. Can’t wait to see who’s next to come to the Buc family!

    I’m sleepin’ good tonight!

    GO BUCS!

  10. Dave Says:

    HOW ABOUT THEM LIGHTNING?!?!?!?!!!!!!!

I agree, GREAT DRAFT so far.

Can not believe Bowers dropped that far. Sign him to a 6 year deal and see how long he lasts.

Foster and Watson and Hayes on the outside. Black might not be back.

I am dissappointed MLB Nate Irving and Sheppard are gone. Kind of solidifies Ruud coming back unless Black moves to the middle to back up McKenzie.

    Who knows?

At this point I see them grabbibg a RB, a DB, and an OT along with another LB. All in no particular order.

  11. newman Says:

    3 guys with dreads.

  12. Pete Dutcher Says:

    @Weneeddefense
I agree. It’s like he’s filling every need on defense with this draft. An instant makeover.

Can you imagine this guy hitting opponents next to Cody Grimm?

The Lions might end up with a slightly superior dline, but Dom is making this defense strong in just about all areas. There are a lot of guys on defense that are going to get their walking papers this year.

  13. The D Says:

    @Hector

only problem is that Cannon unfortunately was diagnosed with cancer (per BSPN) so I think he has bigger issues to take care of. Give it hell big guy and get well soon!

great coverage joe. i really appreciate what you’ve got here in this site. keep up the good work.

  15. MOBucs Says:

Great pick! Dom is letting this draft fall in his lap! I hope we draft a RB tomorrow! Jacquizz Rodgers perhaps?

  16. k1ngAdroc Says:

exactly what the Bucs needed – excellent draft

  17. T in Orlando Says:

5 picks left, looking at CB, S, OL, TE and RB (no particular order)

I really like the 2nd and 3rd round picks, and while I am not overly excited about Clayborn, I wasn’t too enthralled with any of the board when we sat there at 20 (I was hoping Amukamara would fall one more spot).

  18. Joe Says:

    gotbbucs:

    Thanks. Appreciate it man!

  19. Pete Dutcher Says:

    @Dave

Kind of solidifies Ruud coming back unless Black moves to the middle to back up McKenzie.

I think if they can get Casey Matthews he can be Ruud’s replacement. But he’ll need a little time to grow, so the Bucs would have to either Keep Ruud or find an FA.

  20. gitarlvr Says:

Good pick. Foster isn’t really all that good in pass coverage yet but hopefully that can be developed as I don’t think the Bucs are expecting this guy to be a year one starter. Whenever he does get on the field he should quickly become the strongest linebacker the bucs have against the run.

  21. adam from ny Says:

true we did get 3 dread heads…..bob marley will be thumping in the locker room….adam from ny

  22. Weneeddefense Says:

Still think we should re-sign Black since he has so much upside. I also think signing Ruud would be ideal, but I am thinking Ruud decides to sign elsewhere.

  23. Army Buc Says:

    Great draft!!!!!!!
Now get a bad ass corner then trade or get Reggie Bush
To be the flash for Blunt! 2 games a year for him to be pissed
And run all over the saints!

  24. LaughingCat Says:

    Team Joe,

Unfortunately, my schedule has kept mr from being heavily attentive to this draft. Seeing your coverage has been an immense help. Hearing about the drafts picks and seeing everyone’s excitement makes me think that the cute for not having Sapp, Lynch, Brooks et al is not finding their replacements, but finding even better players that can make the pewter shine better than ever.

I not only look forward to seeing these players develop into a team that demands respect and dominates all, but to the pride in our past leaders’ faces as the Bucs rise to the top again.

    Go Bucs!

  25. alan thomas Says:

not one for kissing ass as no one is lining up to kiss mine. however, just want to thank this site for the info you give us bucs fans. it’s amazing to think just twenty years ago i would be waiting for the paper tomorrow to get a read on the guys drafted. thank you very much for such a great deal of information.

  26. Joe Says:

Thank you Alan. That was kind of you. Joe appreciates it.

  27. Joe Says:

    LaughingCat:

Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated. Joe is actually having fun doing this. 🙂

  28. Capt.Tim Says:

Amazing luck to get Foster in the 3rd round. He will prove to be a major steal. This guy is EXACTLY the LB we need to shut down the run. He IS everything that BLack was supposed to become. Goodbye Mr.Black. At your next Job, try tackling RBs, instead of avoiding them. I think Mr. Hayes replacement will be drafted soon.

Really stoked over this draft! 2 of the top 3 DEs for the 4-3, now the top Run stopper, who lead the nation in tackles, coming here to tighten up the Run defense! Now the young defense is as exciting ad the Offense! Dom and Rah Rock the draft!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!

  29. Capt.Tim Says:

Joe- your draft coverage has been superior! Top notch. Thank you so much for the hard work you continue to do in providing Buc Fanatics the best in coverage and info. JoeBucFan rocks as hard as the Bucs draft team! Thank you Joe, for being the very best !!!

  30. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

@Pete Dutcher – so you noticed the Lions too ? They are starting to look downright scary on the D Line. But so is Tampa now, overall. I have a good friend who assures me James Lee is getting a new contract. This friend is from the same town as James Lee, and also played in the Muck Bowl!

  31. Joe Says:

    Thanks Capt.Tim, much obliged.

  32. MikeCali Says:

Great picks so far!! Im very surprised bowers made it to the bucs.

Team Needs: RB OL CB TE

  33. McBuc Says:

Draft is looking good..If weneeddefense is happy, the planets have aligned!
