“He Probably Still Doesn’t Know The Offense”
February 17th, 2011LeGarrette Blount injected massive life into the Bucs’ offense last season with 1,007 yards in just 13 games and 201 carries. The “Race to 10” might have been the “Crawl to 7” without him.
Some want to call Blount the B-Train after the legendary A-Train, Mike Alstott, but that wasn’t part of the conversation with Alstott on The Ron and Ian Show on WDAE-AM 620 Tuesday.
However, Alstott was asked for his take on Blount’s performance.
“Excellent. I mean what an athlete, huh,” Alstott said. “Being able to be powerful, big, hurdle guys. (laughs) He did some good things on the field not knowing where he was going to be at the beginning of the season and coming on with the team and learning the offense. And he probably still doesn’t know the whole offense right now. Ian [Beckles] and I know it takes years. It takes years to understand the offense, the blocking schemes and everything else to go along with it.”
Alstott raises a point that further speaks to the amazing season Blount turned in. The kid missed most of his senior season at Oregon and Mark Dominik was the only general manager to put in a waiver claim for him after the Titans sent him packing after the preseason.
He showed up in September, was given Chucky’s Greg Olson’s playbook and somehow quickly steamrolled the competition behind what many thought was a very suspect offensive line before he got the rock.
Joe still wonders what might have been had Blount not been inactive against the New Orleans in Tampa. Yes, Joe still tosses and turns thinking about the Bucs winning one more game and making the playoffs.

“was given Chucky’s (line through chucky) Greg Olson’s playbook”
Great Eric is gonna get pissed again.

B-train? Pfft! Does originality even count anymore? Peterbilt Blount! Cause, he’s like a semi on the field! And besides, it rolls right off the tongue!
February 17th, 2011 at 6:34 pm
B-train is lame..
LGB is the man.
February 17th, 2011 at 6:38 pm
move over before you get blounted over!!!
February 17th, 2011 at 6:49 pm
he will not have it so easy next year…
hence we draft early @ RB…
earlier the better…
not because LeGarrette is bad…
because he is all the franchise has at that position…

I don’t care what you call him. When was the last time the Bucs had a back that could put on a show like this kid? Really fun to watch.
Dominik has brought in more exciting players in 2 seasons (Blount, Williams, Freeman, Winslow, Benn) than Gruden/Allen in 7 years.
…and Raheem somehow pulled off the impossible of finding a way to get them all on the field at the same time. ha

Uh, RastaMon, LeGarrette Blount wasn’t drafted at all so what makes you think that a RB needs to be drafted early. Half of the starting RB’s in the league were either low draft picks or undrafted FA’s.
February 17th, 2011 at 7:02 pm
I hope it stays that way because I was excited about Caddy and Cayton
February 17th, 2011 at 7:06 pm
uh,gotbucs, that can be said of every position…
we only have 1 RB…
teams next year will know his game…
if he keeps leaping ….he’ll come up lame…
February 17th, 2011 at 7:10 pm
Joe here,
@Gues#27 — Why would Eric get annoyed. The Bucs players themselves are on the record saying it’s still Gruden’s playbook.
February 17th, 2011 at 7:16 pm
It’s much more prevelant with RB’s, Rostamon, but whatever, I really don’t care. I agree that we probably need to aquire another good young RB but it sure as hell doesn’t need to be Mark Ingram like I’ve seen you post before. Blount will be carrying the ball alot, all they need is a guy to give him a breather.

I kinda liked what I heard about Lumpkin. Saw a Lil talent when he was in at the end. Rumor has it , that he is well rounded, and can catch outta the back field. For his career, Kregg has a 9.5 yd per carry avg. He has an 8.5 avg. Per reception. Worth checking this guy out
February 17th, 2011 at 10:17 pm
How about Legarrette “hes not blunt” Blount.
February 17th, 2011 at 10:17 pm
I wonder why they didn’t give Lumpkin some more carries already though last year Capt. Tim. I can’t remember if he got injured or something. I hope they pick up a RB in the middle to late rounds regardless what shakes out with the backups they have now.

Demarco Murray in the 3rd??
February 18th, 2011 at 12:08 am
if murray is around in the 3rd, you’d have to take him…i doubt he makes it past the 2nd round though. i wouldn’t hate drafting da’rell scott in the 3rd or 4th round
February 18th, 2011 at 1:00 am
Jacquizz Rodgers. 3rd Round. Do it.
February 18th, 2011 at 8:52 am
Hopefully he only learned a fraction of the offense last year! That means with normal prep (if there is a normal workup much less a season) 1000 yards will be chump change!
February 18th, 2011 at 10:17 am
I’m always a little surprised when it’s characterized that the Titans “sent him packing” at the end of the preseason. My understanding was that Jeff Fisher was trying to sneak him onto the practice squad when Dominick swooped in and stole him. Po-TAY-to, po-TAH-to, but I think it puts the situation in a different light.

The Bucs already have a nice 1-2 punch with Caddy playing behind Blount Force Trauma.

This goes to the point against what JO-MAMA was saying yesterday when he was complaining about the offensive numbers and saying they need to draft a TE in round 1.
Blount, Williams, Benn, and EVERYONE esle including Olsen don’t know the entire offense yet because it was the first year of it. it is a work in progress. If they added nothing to the offense this year I still think they get much better, especially early on, for the simple reason of knowing more of it and instilling more of it.
I do think they maybe grab a TE in the late rounds or FA and add a speedy change of pace RB… unless they feel Huggins will be able to remain healthy.
MAN I would love to see the Huggy Bear and Blount show all year
