Dominik Tips Hand On Barber

January 4th, 2011

Seemingly not worried about saying anything that could affect contract negotiations with free-agent-to-be Ronde Barber, yesterday Mark Dominik talked about how great Barber played this season and how he looks forward to talking to his agent, so relayed Tom Balog of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

Dominik even compared Barber to the Franchise — Josh Freeman.

On Monday, general manager Mark Dominik sent a nuclear cloud smoke signal that the team will make every effort to re-sign Barber.

“I think that’ll be a good private conversation between myself and Ronde and his agent,”  Dominik said. “I will say this for Ronde Barber, yesterday, if we want to talk about how Josh Freeman played at the end of the season, I think you can say the same thing about how Ronde Barber played at the end of the season.

”For the many years he’s got in the National Football League to play at that level, and to know what Drew Brees was going to do on a majority of plays is phenomenal. I was really impressed with the way he finished his 2010 season.”

Good for Dominik. Do what you have to do to bring Barber back. He’s not replaceable on the roster. The next man up stuff is nice, but it doesn’t apply in this case.

Keep the man around as long as he keep producing, hes still playing at an extremely high level, defying the date on his birth certificate.

Respecting a critical veteran free agent who has been with the team his entire career AND continues to play at a high level. . . More and more respect for Dominik’s insight and abilities. Fans, we have ourselves a new Rich McKay who is better at evaluating talent.

I also think it would be good to start talking to Rhonde about a coaching position after he retires. If you have a chance to go to the games, you will see he is always talking to Coach on the sidelines. Im sure his experience and knowledge of the game and schemes can be used in the future.

We definetly need to have Barber back on this team next season. Even if you play him as the nickel back his impact on this D is huge.

I like the idea. He can coach and just be great presence for the players. Further, we need to keep inviting any quality Buc alumni to hang at the palace and work with these guys. Continue building the lifelong legacy these players will want to be a part of.

Finally feeling the Buc love we all felt after the 2002 Superbowl.

I agree. I thought Ronde was done two years ago but I guess it was everyone around him. he seems to have gotten better each of the last 3 years!!

Whether playing nickel mostly, or even moving to safety, they need him back there with this young bunch. I can see him moving into a DB coaches role the day after he retires if he wants to.

I agree with everyone elses comments on this…

Hes always chatting with the coach on the sidelines…he should be brought back as player/mentor/coach.

It was GREAT to see him getting in the Saints huddle during the last game…He was all OVER several passes, and looked fantastic all damned day!

Agree with the sentiment to get him coaching after his retirement…I slightly DISagree with getting a bunch of Bucs alumni to hang around the Palace…I don’t want anyone catching turf toe from Dilfer!

he’ll be back. We need him 2 help Biggers and Lewis as they are not quite ready but are vastly improving
