Was Today A Glimpse Of Bucs’ Future?
December 26th, 2010Sure, Joe was as geeked as a cheerleader the way the Bucs offense exploded. Who wouldn’t have been?
But what caught Joe’s eye was Adam Heyward and Geno Hayes laying the wood on Seahawks running backs and quarterbacks.
Why, Matt Hasselbeck was so unnerved, he blew his back out tip-toeing into the end zone.
Hayes had a monster game with eight tackles and two sacks. Heyward had four tackles but each was a bruising type of hit that made any sane player think twice about running his way.
This, all too often, is what the Bucs have lacked this season: punishing, physical linebackers putting the fear of an IRS collector into offensive players.
Could this be a sign of things to come?
Joe certainly hopes so.

I sure hope you are correct. Add in Watson, who I think can become pretty good, and hopefully the LBs can take a big step forward next year. They have easily been the weak link as a unit on defense this year. Of course DE is still probably the most pressing need. I still see DE and LB being taken in the first 2 rounds.
Didn’t see the game, but based on what I have seen this year Hayes shows flashes of brilliance followed by alot of mediocre play and not laying within the system (out of position). Hopefully he starts bringing it week in and week out.

The Bucs had the same kind of success against the 49ers in that blowout game and Joe made the same kind of article as this one. that 49ers success didnt translate all the way to today. This team needs to play that kind of constituency for anyone to believe our defense is improving.
Bucs should get a real DC (morris focus on being a HC) and sign/draft some solid defensive ends to continue some success on defense. Also add a safety and a dp(biggers isnt the answer). I still think the Bucs can compete with the aints, but it will rely on the Bucs offense to score with the ease they had today.

Joe what makes you think today with a blowout win is a peek at the future? Maybe last week’s blown loss was a peek at the future?
It’s the lack of consistency that bothers me more than anything else.
Take Winslow for example – great game but why hasn’t he played like that in Baltimore or Atlanta?

Hayes will be gone next year or, at a minimum, he will be fighting for his job.

Draft LB’s and let the current ones compete.

Yes Joe, what you saw was the future coming here now. We had a OL blocking and a runner running and receivers catching and even the defense, patched up and hurting, playing defense. Regarless of what happens next week, this team played their heart out this year in spite of the injuries. Next year with all the wounded players back, the new ones having the off season and training camp (if we have a season) and the newbies coming on, watch out because the entire league knows what is coming from here and eventually the media will also, put I am proud of them and Morris should be coach of the year but it doesn’t matter because his team knows it.
