“It’s A Little Bit Of A Slap In The Face”

The Bucs getting snubbed in the Pro Bowl selection process didn’t feel good to Raheem Morris. Usually Morris says those kinds of accolades are meaningless, but not today.
Speaking to the media at One Buc Palace today, Raheem was clear about his feelings on the Pro Bowl picks.
“It’s a little bit of a slap in the face,” Raheem said. “You got to say that’s part of the challenge. You know, once you get some national games, you get some primetime games out there and you make big time plays in those games, everybody sees them. For our fans to be able to see them, and it all plays a part, a couple of blackouts. We need everything to help us out with that stuff.”
Raheem went on to say he didn’t see everything as personal.
“I didn’t see it as a slap in the face when they said I was too young to coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It wasn’t a slap in the face when we went 3-13 and you were giving my job to [Bill] Cowher. None of those things are slaps in the face. It’s all our business. It’s the entertainment business,” Raheem said. “We got to earn our respect. And hopefully we can, and will.”
It’s good to hear Raheem has thick skin. He’ll need it in future years, when the pressure and expectations on the team really ratchets up.

I used to work for a large organization in NYC, they paid Herm Edwards to speak to employees once when he was coaching the jets, to motivate and discuss team work, etc. I would love to see Raheem speak, i bet he would be great at giving that speech. This guy is the man, and has somehow gotten this team to play well above their weight class.

I like the guy a lot. I can’t believe he’s so young and talks like he has been around the block several times. Kudos to him.

We’re lucky to have this guy. I love that the critics only provide more fuel to Morris and our entire team.
Trashtalkers like Morris, Penn, and Talib have me thinking of the days of Simeon Rice and Sapp….We’re seeing the swagger grow in this team…Another year or two and it’s gonna be scary how good we’re going to be.

What a difference a year makes! Last year, Rah got roasted weekly by the fan base! Boy oh boy, the power of a W! No wonder Ray Jay can’t sell out.

After seeing what Olsen has done with Freeman & the offense, and Raheem has done with his Secondary & the defense, it is easy to see who has excelled and who has not. Defensive minded Bill Cowher would still be a very welcome addition as Head Coach of the Buccaneers. Raheem is a good motivator. But cannot teach the x’s & o’s. So give him a job as Motivation Coach and leave the x’s & o’s to Someone that knows this business. Kudo’s to Olsen for the job he has done!

Do you really spend every minute of your day trying to come up with some way to place a negative post? Really?
Do you truly, truly believe Cowher could have turned this team around any faster than what Rah has accomplished. Exactly what would your infinite wisdom and belief for Cowher have us believe he could have accomplished? 11, 12, 13 wins and a run at the MFC championship this year?
Bottom line, and what is truly FACTUAL, is that Rah has gotten more from this team than any person with true football knowledge would have ever expected the team to accomplish. He has done that with a NFL record setting 10 starting rookies and has the team in position to truly compete, if not completely dominate, in a sustainable ,long-term future.
If you truly believe your God Cowher could have exceeded Rah’s accomplishments, please explain what that could have been and back it up with facts. Oh, I know, after 15 years coaching the Steelers he finally won a superbowl! Yay!

Rah will continue to have to prove himself, as that is the nature of the biz. A top ten defense would be the next step, since that is his specialty.
Based on his defiance of the odds so far, I like his chances.
However, the hot knife through butter nature of the run defense has to stop soon.
