“I Told Kellen To Go Out And Win This Thing.”

December 12th, 2010

Just peeking outside his window, it’s a blustery day for Tampa Bay standards.

Compared with the weather in Washington, it’s downright balmy.

It was cold in The District. Temperatures in the 40s. Rainy. Windy. Many of the usual diehard Redskins fans decided to stay home by the looks of things on TV.

If was the first time the Bucs had to play in “football weather” this year. After a horrible start, they got the job done.

Barely, but a win is a win. This isn’t the BCS. Joe’s breathing easier.

So too was Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman. He spoke on the Bucs radio network following the game and seemed a bit more relieved than happy.

“It was the first game we had to battle the elements. It was cold, raining and it came down to to how the guys fought it out. We found a way to win.”

On the game-winning touchdown pass to Kellen Winslow:

“K2 had a one-on-one. We practiced that play Friday. We ran through it a bunch of times. I told Kellen to go out and win this thing. The guy had great coverage on him and Kellen got it and took it to the house. It was a great effort by Kellen.

“On the two-point play with [offensive coordinator Greg] Olson, I was to go with the pass depending on the defense and I took it up the middle. I kept pushing and pushing and I got in.

“You never want to apologize for a win. This is still a win. We were able to get it done on offense and defense. Sometimes, things go like that. Our mentality was, take it to them and finish it off.”

Worst game ever. Atleast we won. Sure hope we look better next week. If this is the team we have become due to injuries, it’s gonna be a long three weeks.

Idk why people continue to complain…what team did you expect to see on the road in rainy, 40 degree weather, and missing a third of the starting lineup

Hey Joe….what are your thoughts on the Redskins getting 5 downs at the end? I thought I was crazy, but it turns out they really did get an extra down. Then they went back and said that the 9 yard reception at the 3 yard line was a 1st down to cover thier butts…but it wasn’t. It was a 9 yard gain on first and ten. The sideline marker went to 2, then we stuffed the run on the next play and it stayed at 2. Any inside comments or reactions?

with all these injuries and we sqweak out wins like this… then its gonna be an awsome 3 weeks.

hey ac3, I wasn’t expecting greatness, but between the Redskins coaching, the non calls by the refs, and the Bucs performance…today was honestly one of the worst games I have ever witnessed.

What a clutch play by Winslow, I’m glad Freeman saw him. Lets keep the Ws rolling in boys. They may not be pretty, but we got 8 wins!

So long as the Bucs won, Joe doesn’t give a damn. 🙂

But, yeah, Joe thought that was VERY suspicious.

You shouldn’t apologize. The best team found a way to win at the end. The extra point miss DID NOT win the game. It would have tied it and I’m betting the Bucs still would have won in overtime.

Why can’t people enjoy success? It’s not like the team was a Superbowl favorite. I figured they would get six to eight wins before the season started; was anyone more optimistic that that? And look how many good teams have been beaten by bad ones this year (as in every year). It aint’ that easy to beat all the bad teams.

But the point is why can’t people just take this for a surprisingly good season and enjoy? Why the constant effort to cheapen the victories?

  9. JDouble Says:

Wow really? They give the Redskins an extra down that almost cost us the game and you don’t care? Amazing.

  10. JDouble Says:

I’m by no means a negative fan or a hater. Usually I am accused of being a kool aid drinker and too optimistic, but you guys are killing me. Why can’t people enjoy success? Really? We didn’t win this game today folks. The Redskins lost it. We were horrible. It should have been a blow out. I’m greatful for the win, but lets keep it real. We didn’t play well at all and we didn’t earn this win. It was given to us in an absolutely horrible excuse for a game. Both teams should apologize.

Let’s just hope we look better next week.

    Hey JDouble two questions:

    1. Where is it I can go to find out what the final score of games “should have been” ?

    2. What should the Saints done when they lost to Cleveland; forfeited the rest of the season because they weren’t worthy of being in the NFL?

We were ugly but they were uglier. They left 7 on the field by missing two field goals and an extra point. We left 7 on the field by fumbling on 1st and 1 from the 1.

They fumbled a kickoff. Blount fumbled at the end of a big run heading toward the red zone.

They ran all over is in the first, but we legitimately kept them out of the end zone and shut them down in the second.

McNabb had a nice final drive, working underneath, but they arguably got two 4th downs! Even if they make the kick, it doesn’t win the game. We have a kickoff and OT.

In short, it was ugly, no doubt. We might not have deserved to win – whatever that means – but someone has to! They deserved it less. They won the first; we won the second and the game.

A Cold rainy sloppy field they missed their chances, we did not. Not a grand win but we looked good again like most games several plays, Deep pass to Benn, Blount’s long run(then fumble) Benn’s end around. great pass to Winslow, sideline catch by Stroughter.

Losing McCoy in the first quarter. We looked sad with them running at will and with determination. But we found a way in the second half to stop that chit.. and we did what we needed to do, we where on the 1 and fumbled, crazy but it happens we score there we would have been up. Defense corrected itself and there where plenty of 3 and outs. The last drive sucked had a few 3rd downs we didn’t stop them at.

Special teams play was again just okay. we held them with our kicks but the fumble was just that a bad play by them. we did make everyone of Barth’s kicks.

A great game won in all fazes of the game, No. But a win irregardless. We are showing that we have players who can play, even our backups who are being asked to be starters are doing well.
A bad game & we won Yeah!! move on…
Detroit is who we play our next best game against, next Sundy.

FYI Joe, you have a couple of misspelled words at the end. Just looking out for ya.

    Thanks Buc You!
