“There’s An Economic Angle To This”

November 11th, 2010

Despite Joel Glazer saying loud and clear that “money will never be an issue” when it comes to building the Bucs, Rick Stroud of the St. Pete Times doesn’t seem to believe him.

Stroud told his followers cutting Derrick Ward was a business decision. Now Stroud says Jeff Faine possibly riding the bench this week could also be a business decision.

Stroud was reacting to Raheem Morris saying at his news conference today that Faine will have to battle for his job with fill-in center Jeremy Zuttah and there is a concern that Faine is not in game shape despite being healthy.

“There’s an economic angle to this,” Stroud said on 1010 AM to host J.P. Peterson Thursday.

Stroud talked about the mega millions of non-guaranteed cash owed Faine and said “purely from a business standpoint, …knowing what you know about the Bucs, is it a stretch to think [Faine’s] not within their plans?”

Joe knows the Bucs are light years below what would be the salary cap floor when/if a salary cap returns to the NFL with a new labor agreement.

The Bucs will be forced to spend gobs of cash when that day comes. Considering Faine’s age and time missed for injury, Joe would rather see the Bucs spend that dough elsewhere versus on Faine.

    Elsewhere? Like Manchester?

Rick Stroud is a jackass. This is based on absolutely no facts and is just his opinion.

Yet people will take it as fact and run with it. God I hate the Tampa Bay Sports writers. HOw about the fact that Faine hasn’t played in a month and Zuttah is playing very well? Why would you rush Faine back and risk him reinjuring himself?

Hey Rick Stroud you stupid f@#k there isn’t always a deep dark sinister plan behind everything.

  3. Sensiblebuc Says:

    @D

I heard Stroud’s segment on the radio and, trust me, he was just engaging in some harmless speculation. He and JP went on to comment about how valuable Faine is as a leader on this team where the presence of strong veteran leadership is low.

  4. abadabagoogafoo Says:

Maybe Stroud should try looking at it from a football perspective…

…Faine isn’t that good. We haven’t seen a big drop off from Faine to Zuttah.

    GO RAVENS!

  6. Lucas Jackson Says:

Ward was a money decision. Given his performance he was not worth the money. Penn was a money decision. Given his performance he was worth the money. Isn’t every player a money decision?

  7. jEstEr Says:

Faine wasn’t good enough in Cleveland the Saints didnt keep him either. Then we make him the highest paid center at the time.Zuttah has looked better at times no fumbled snaps no holding calls and no injuries,so the line can built some consistancy.I hope Faine stays on the bench!!!

  8. Dew Says:

Who I’m I to judge football talent but our offense has been playing better with the new guys IMO. Plain and simple. I don’t think it’s about money. I think the coaches are happy with the guys playing.

  9. Dew Says:

You can leave Penalty Trueblood on the bench too. I like James Lee’s hustle and Trueblood is a free agent after this season.

  10. Buc You Says:

So long as they got Raheems luck, they can plug anyone in there. After all, its not about performance when you got luckyass wins on your side. Everything is freaking rosey let me tell ya.

  11. BamBamBuc Says:

If luck takes us to a Super Bowl one of these days, I’m all for it.

  12. Wild Buc Says:

I’ve heard this all day long on local Tampa sports radio that it’s a financial decision or he shouldn’t lose his job to injury. I say BS!. Faine has looked pitiful this year and Zuttah has outplayed him by a mile. Larson has outplayed Zuttah at the left guard position and Lee has outplayed Trueblood at RT. Trueblood should lose his job too. The offensive line has played the best they have played in years with these new guys. Lets keep it that way. What would Tom Brady be right now if he had to go back to the bench because Bledsoe was healthy. YOU PLAY YOUR PLAYERS BASED ON PERFORMANCE, NOT POPULARITY!

buc you says….you sir are a loser, but you know this everytime you look in the mirror!!! 5-3 is not luck…now go supersize my drive through order

D-money, me Too! What this town needs to be a major league sports town, is major league reporters and show host. Ours are horribly little league! If Raheem thinks Zuttah is the best option. Then I’m sure he is. Our line seems to have played better lately. I have said all along that our line is underachieving, and needs upgraded! I haven’t seen any starting O-lineman look good all season, except for Meyyybe Penn. Meybe. Not a conspiracy or scam. Just improving the team. O-line and Linebackers have been most disappointing part of team this year, but know both areas will be improved. Also, Stroud

what about the economic deal where the glazers are all sporting the same stupid tie….whats up with that…..you know they got the 3 for the price of 1 clearance special at ross or marshalls….if they aren’t rocking zegna, brioni, or boss, then everything is an economic issue with those stools….adam from ny

ps i heard one of them rocks red panties like aubrey huff and thats why the bucs are having a good season.

  17. adam from ny Says:

also a lot of teams are rocking the solid color look head to toe…..i would like to see the bucs do an alternate pewter jersey…and wear it with pewter pants once in a while…it would be a wicked look….then again a pewter jersey with red pants would look nice too……

also we have worn our red jerseys very little this year….i’m hoping they bust out the red jerseys more with the pewter pants now that the weather is cooling a bit….adam from ny

ps lay some wood on carolina boys!!….remember what they did to peanut last year on that punt return!!

  18. Matt Says:

O-line is going to need a rehaul very soon.

LG, C, RG, RT might all be different in 2011.

Remember, Joseph is a free agent next year…

  19. Oli Says:

Faine can’t stay healthy for 16 games, but Zuttah is playing too well to drop.

Same with Trueblood – you get hurt, someone takes over and plays well, if not better – back-up next year?

Penn won his position after a vet – Luke Petitgout – got hurt. Again!

All about production. The young lads are getting it done!

  20. Buc You Says:

    @Matt

Yes the players will want to go play elsewhere for more money. After this season the Bucs will experience a mass Exodus in the current teams free agents. The rebuilding and the pain isn’t overwith yet. Next year will be another rebuilding product after the Glaziers fail to sign their own.

  21. mike56wesley Says:

cheap moves by the bucs, paying gruden and morris, paying penn, paying winslow, paying mccoy, loks to me as though they are building the same way as the first rebuild ,paying dungy and wyche, sign nickerson, brooks ,sapp.some call them cheap because they are smart enough to pick up players cheap so when the collective barganing agreement is done they will have enough to sign freeagents that will compliment the young cheap players.this isnt there first trip to the park, remember we signed keyshan, rice,b.johnson to finish off.i said it once and ill say it again name me one team that won a superbowl by building through free agency, new england is cheap but no one claims that, they trade out of top 20 to save money and pick up more draft.cheap or smart?

  22. mike56wesley Says:

Buc you, which players do we want to keep that we gave one year tenders to? caddy, trueblood, ruud,?

  23. Rican Says:

    joseph will be resigned

  24. Capt.Tim Says:

Buc you is an expert on mass exodus. His brain cells all abandoned him during a Mass exodus years ago! Of couse, who could blame them?

  25. Capt.Tim Says:

One great truth in the NFL- Talent attracts talent. Great young QB, energetic young Coach, that the players love! This will once again be a hot spot for Talented FAs. They will want to be a part of this. About time! During the last years of the “gruden Dark ages”, No talented Free agents wanted to come here, for any amount of money! Only old, over the hill guys. Lots of young talented Coaches will wanna come be here also- same reasons! One thing slot of people don’t understand- to sign FAs, they have to WANT to play there! You can’t make them come. Unless you want to pay twice what they’re worth, and maybe not even then! But now, we are a hot spot again. Nice!!
