THE PESSIMIST: Give Blount The Damn Ball

November 28th, 2010

"Hey, Olie, you're not feeling my vibe."

THE PESSIMIST is a diehard Bucs fan whose negative writings appear occasionally on JoeBucsFan.com. His views surely do not necessarily reflect those of Joe. However, Joe sure gets a kick out of them.

Any idiot can see LeGarrette Blount is the real deal. He gets yardage that isn’t there. He moves the pile. He’s a load to take down. He breaks the big one.

But Greg Olson isn’t buying it. No, that Chucky wannabe isn’t sold.

Over and over again Olson wouldn’t give Blount the ball on 3rd-and-short and wouldn’t let him pound the rock and wear down the Ravens today.

How in a tight game with the defense playing well Blount manages just 13 carries is a mindblowing travesty. That’s as bad as Bruce Gradkowski throwing 50 times at Giants Stadium.

Freakin’ shameful.

THE PESSIMIST has heard the head coach say a hundred times how the Bucs want to be a physical, violent heavyweight. Is Olson tuning out the coach? Will Raheem chew him out?

Stop throwing on first down so much. Let Blount hammer away and setup play action and more manageble second downs for Freeman.

Hey Olson, you’re the same guy that sadistically pounded ill-equipped Cadillac Williams into the line 25+ times a game early in the season because you thought it was necessary for the offense. Make up your freakin’ mind.

Just give Blount the damn ball 20+ times. It’s not that complicated.

I’ve already decided to renew my season tickets next year. Make it to the playoffs or not we’re going to be good for years to come IMO.

  2. Leighroy Says:

Sadly, it was that clear today I agree. Freeman was not connecting and the receivers and OL was not helping him out. But Blount was making something out of nothing all day long when actually given a chance.

I also agreed with the announcer that they took forever in the 4th to get to the hurry up offense which puts Freeman more comfortably in the spread.

  3. Leroy Buttermilk Says:

This is another game we could have won oh well what can you do cry about it blame it on the coaching staff. We went into the ravens back yard and took some good punches from them and the Zebra’s and came up 8 points short See you in Dallas buttplugs

  4. christopher Says:

I think I agree w/ this…& I’m an optimist. &/or, get Freeman in the semi-hurry-up spread sooner. SO FUNNY how we always score in the 4th w/ this…

    well said Pessimist, well said

  6. ChallengerDeep Says:

Does it hurt to be that stupid?

  7. Just Frank Says:

Olsen called a bad game. Only 1 screen, 1 slant, throwing way too much on 1st down, not enough Blount. I hope he is his worst critic and learns from his mistakes because the offense sucked this outing. Don’t tip your hat to Baltimore because the plays were there to make and the play-calling was sub par outside of those plays that weren’t successful. e.g. Spurlock & K2 dropped touchdowns.

  8. New Era Buc Says:

The only joke around here is these bitch ass articles

  9. HIRE GREG OLSON! Says:

Where’s OAR? He’ll be quick to remind you that Gradkowski only threw 48 times (and ran 4 times, which would equal 52 pass plays). LOL

  10. BamBamBuc Says:

No one honestly expected us to be at 7-4, or to beat the Ravens this year. We can take away from this game that the D is improving and we’ve taken both Atlanta and Baltimore to the end of games (which is more than most expected preseason). We’ve still got a chance at the playoffs, although that’s another thing nobody expected.

  11. tommy Says:

some of those 3rd down playcalls were a little silly…..GO BUCS, atlanta beat down is next!!

  12. BamBamBuc Says:

Worst thing from todays game was the 9 penalties. Most on special teams giving us horrible field position. Two that I can recall by Koutivides, and another by Hayward I believe.

Yeah, I know Freeman was off on a lot of his passes. He was under a lot of pressure as the line wasn’t giving him much protection. Sure, we can blame the horrendous pass interference call that set up the Ravens second TD. But penalties on special teams will absolutely kill both offense and defense.

  13. tommy Says:

high 5 to you bam…nice to see people actually get it….go bucs!!!

  14. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I disagree that in this game Blount didn’t get enough carries. Having only 13 carries is a little misleading because there were stretches when we were going 3 and out every drive, so of course he’s not going to get as many carries. Plus, we had to abandon the run in the 4th quarter because we were down 2 TD’s. Fact is, it is damn near impossible to run the ball consistently on the Ravens. And we have not proven that we can run the ball on 3rd and short and pick up first downs (unless it is Freeman doing the running). I agree with the announcers that we probably should have spread the Ravens out a little more and challenged their secondary, because they are just too good up front to pound it on them. We seemed to play a little more conservative than in the last few games, but I’m sure it’s because they didn’t want to make a critical turnover. I personally didn’t like the offensive game plan, but it had nothing to do with Blount not having enough carries.

  15. Capt.Tim Says:

BamBam and Hawaiian Buc- spot on . Both nailed it. We should have went to the spred offense in the 3rd quarter. It’s been Baltimores Achilles heel.surprised how knowledgeable Tim Ryan was in the Booth. He had really done his homework, and that is so rare today!!! Pessimist-still wrong, still a tool. But amazingly consistent, for what that’s worth.

  16. Pete Dutcher Says:

BTW…is the Kenneth Darby on the Broncos the same one who played for the Bucs?

  17. Sgt Mike Says:

I don’t buy the excuse that we never expected to be 7-4. We are 7-4 and since we are and are showing talent I expect them to push to win by playing to the strengths we have. If we were 4-7 maybe give that excuse. We should be playing to win every game. Especially when we have the talent to win. I have no dillusions about the Super Bowl but I think that we should be building on each win every week and pushing harder, through game plan, to make the playoffs since we are in a position to get there. No more excuses for the Defense and the coaching staff. Just do it, we have proven we have the talent to build on now lets get better through coaching players up.

  18. bucfanlostiniowa Says:

I have to agree I am sick of people saying “oh well were 7-4 and no one expected us to be this good blah blah blah”. We could be 9-2 if not for Greg Olson and his bullsh*t playcalling, but yeah let’s just settle for 7-4 who cares if we could be better.

  19. RustyRhino Says:

I have seen 3rd and short run plays in the last 3 games where Blount runs it and don’t make it, and runs it and don’t make it we can’t have it both ways we run or pass at the same time, for me I don’t think our O-line is good at sort yardage on ANY down. Time and time again we have short yardage and we run and don’t make the push forward we just stand there and the back has to create the push forward, just once I would like our O-line to step out first before stepping back. Yeah what do I know I am not nor never have been a player but it only looks like the obvious thing to me we need 2 yards(6 feet) and our O-line steps side to side or stands there, never forward. And we rarely get the first down.
