Northern California Nightmares
November 21st, 2010Big game today for the Bucs. In NoCal, northern California, San Francisco to be exact.
While some may love the other bay area for its constant not so warm climate or its, well, free-living society, the home of Nancy Pelosi has been rather unkind to the Bucs.
Veteran columnist Gary Shelton documents in the St. Petersburg Times some of the horror stories the Bucs have had in San Francisco over the years including a reference to a nightmare known to Bucs fans as the immortal Trent Dilfer.
This was the place where Keyshawn Johnson had his meltdown, and when Simeon Rice had his lost weekend, and when Sam Wyche decided it was perfectly logical to start rookie Trent Dilfer against the best defense in the NFL.
This was where Jeb Blount started his first game, and Mike Rae started his last game, and Jack Thompson started his best game, and every time, the Bucs lost. Frankly, it doesn’t seem to matter whom the Bucs start at quarterback. They are 1-11 in San Francisco, and the 11 losses belong to 11 different quarterbacks.
This was where the Bucs lost games to Joe Montana and Steve Young. And also to Cody Pickett and Shaun Hill. This was where they lost when they had clinched the playoffs and when the playoffs were on the line. This was where they lost to terrible 49ers teams and to terrific ones.
In short, Joe firmly believes the time is now for the Bucs to oust their haunted ways in San Francisco the way right-thinking Americans exorcised the radical ways of San Francisco hero Pelosi earlier this month.
Win the damned game and the Bucs are in the playoff hunt. Lose, and start working on next spring’s draft.

we must put this team in its place…..we hung tough in hotlanta which made a statement against a top team on the road…now we must go into san fran and thump these guys to show we are a real playoff contender….this game is very very important because we will lose next week in baltimore as expected and as it should be…we need this one…then go home in a few weeks and suit up in orange and show those filthy birds an orange ass whopping….adam from ny
pressure on the qb is vital in this one…dont let this smith kid get comfortable back there at all….let gore win the game by himself if he can

Just don’t forget that we’re 1-11 there not 0-11, so we still won one game, and we have never had a QB as good as Freeman. After this game….2-11 there and 7-3!!!

Probably in the Minority here, but this game has no significance to me at all, other than wanting to see progress from the rookies, and see which of the remaining vets are still begging to be purged. At this point, we are just dropping futher and futher down the draft pick order, getting futher away from that franchise DE that will complete our the team. A De, SS,and Guard will have us looking good. Then two FA outside linebackers, to replace “the invisible men”, and we are ready to win in the playoffs! Playoffs this year would be an amazing accomplishment, but don’t think this team is ready to compete for the SuperBowl. If ya aren’t ‘”in it to win it” as far as the playoffs go, then finish the rebuild, and be a real Comtender for the “SuperBowl next year! I’m not saying we try to lose games! If we win out, like Josh Freeman suggested, no one would be happier than me. I’m just saying this year is already a success to me. If we look good, and only win a couple more games, I’m calling this year mission accomplished! Playoffs were NEVER part of my expectations for this year. Those Expectations are for all the years to follow!!

Thanks for bringing your political dribble to the site. Maybe some of us think the wrong way I guess. I wont be visiting your site again. You seem to have that mentality that I see so often, and I certainly don’t wont to support that.
Bacon, “right-thinking” was a left-right comment, not wrong-right. But if you want to boycott this site because of a writer’s political leanings, then you’re the one with the problem. —Joe

I can’t stand when meaningless comparisons like this are made. Is this the Buccaneers team that lost all those games there? No its not. This Bucs team with the exception of Ronde Barber is 0-0 against San Francisco. Give me a break.

Gitarlvr- Freeman is our first and only Franchise QB! That changes everything. Yes, Frank Gore will get 150yds today. So what? We knew since Preseason that we wouldn’t be able to stop the Run this year! Even the Coach said that! Who gives a Damn! We’ve been ran on all year, and won anyway! Quit the damn whining about it. Only an idiot who knows nothing about the game would thing a line this young would do much different! Don’t wanna hear the same dumb complaints for Next 7 weeks!

Sorry, guys, last post was pasted to wrong comment! Nobody worried about Gore here!

Capt Tim, I hear what you are saying. Even IF we make the layoffs, we aint gonna make it, or win Super Bowl anyway. Tampa just aint quite ready, YET.
As a person who lived in Both Tampa and Northern California, I can say the two Bay areas could not be more different. Plenty of people in Northern California when told I was from Florida said “How unfortunate”! There is a certain kind of San Francisco Snobbery towards people from “back east” there that is unmistakable. IOW, many feel their u know what don’t stink.

Sorry guys, I was wrong. The way the defense played today, we should shoot for the playoffs! We have a good chance to beat anyone!

Apple its not east coast we have a problem with…its every where that is not Nor Cal…
We are a proud location, we hate LA and SD as much as we hate NY and Texas !!
I prefer it here over anywhere else as I hate it being below 30 degrees and I hate it being over 100 degrees !!
If you are not from here you can’t understand it, and I don’t expect you to !
