Mike Smith And Peter King On The Bucs
November 2nd, 2010Today on “The Opening Drive,” co-hosts Peter King and Bob Papa welcomed Atlanta coach Mike Smith for his weekly Tuesday morning appearance, heard exclusively on Sirius NFL Radio. It soon turned into a Bucs lovefest between coffee-slurping, oatmeal-loving, popcorn-shoveling King and Smith.
In particular, the two raved about Bucs wide receiver Mike Williams.
Peter King: He’s smart on the field, he runs great routes, he’s a very good boundary receiver in that he can get his feet down well. He has been manna from heaven for the Bucs. He will be a good player for them for a long time. Mike, I am telling you that the third practice of Bucs training camp he was their starting receiver.
Mike Smith: He should be. He has the skills you are looking for in a wide receiver. [Josh] Freeman has other weapons too. [Arrelious] Benn is another guy who has good size. They have got some guys there. Raheem is doing a good job with the defense. I like those two rookie tackles they drafted early.
Ronde Barber has been playing forever and Talib, he has unbelievable skills. They are doing some good things there and it shows. I told the players that you get what you earn and we both share a 5-2 record.
King: I think Raheem was smart in this, saying he’s the best team in the NFC because he’s saying to his team, “No one believes in us” and the reason for that is smart alecks like me are saying, “Hey, you played two good teams and you lost by 25.” Until they beat a good team, I’m not going to believe [the Bucs are a playoff team]. I think what they are doing is fantastic from what I thought they would be before the season. I thought they would be awful. But to believe they are a good team they have to win games like against the Falcons in Atlanta which is a very good team. Then you will get respect, even in your own market.
Smith: Peter, they are a very dangerous team. I don’t think you can compare teams just based on the scoreboard from one week to the next. I know they are a 5-2 team and they lead the division, the NFC South. What you can say other than that is that they are a young team and playing to win a game. There is such a fine line in the NFL.

Buc You…If that is the case, niether are the Falcons…they play the same schedule.
November 2nd, 2010 at 4:17 pm
Buc You,
Again you show that you are an idiot.
Reading comprehension buddy. Try it sometime.
November 2nd, 2010 at 4:27 pm
We’ve been winning without Price for the most part. You don’t lose what you don’t know. Let’s hope his injuries aren’t chronic.
“Raheem is doing a good job with the defense.” = we’re going to try and pound the mutha F@#%in’ ball down their ‘best in the NFC’ throats.
November 2nd, 2010 at 4:27 pm
…then hit one over the top with Talib peeking in…
November 2nd, 2010 at 4:28 pm
Good Bucs pass rush = win
November 2nd, 2010 at 4:51 pm

November 2nd, 2010 at 5:26 pm
How are the Falcons any better than the Bucs?
They’ve beaten Arizona. So have the Bucs.
They’ve beaten Cleveland. So have the Bucs.
They’ve beaten Cincinnati. So have the Bucs.
The lost to Pittsburgh. So did the Bucs.
They’ve beaten San Fran out of the NFC West. The Bucs beat the Rams.
They got beat by Philly by FOURTEEN in a game that wasn’t that close.
I don’t care what scores are. Wins are wins and losses are losses.
The Browns beat the Saints by 13. Does that mean they’re that much better than the Saints? Nope. Are the Saints 25 points better than the Bucs? Nope. If we DID follow that logic than it makes no sense that the Bucs beat the Browns.
The only team the Falcons have beaten with a winning record was the Saints. And the Saints only lost that game because Hartley sucks.
It won’t matter to the national media if the Bucs beat the Falcons. They still won’t get any respect. Instead, it’ll be “What happened to the Falcons???”
November 2nd, 2010 at 6:09 pm
“It won’t matter to the national media if the Bucs beat the Falcons. They still won’t get any respect.”
Boo F—-n HOO!!!
when the Bics show that they can beat good teams then they might get respect. You sound insecure or something about your Bucs record.
Enjoy the current limelight. For now.
November 2nd, 2010 at 6:19 pm
At 6-2 , you get respect. Don’t care who you played. Doesn’t matter one bit. If you are 6-2 in the NFL, you are a very good team. Smith and King did a fine job on that interview. This should be a good game this weekend. NFC south is turning out to be class of NFC -again!! Both Falcons and Saints are also turning out to be talented, well run organizations. I realize that the team is about the future. Really, our record didn’t really matter much, only imptrovement and experience for our young guys. It would probably be better if we didn’t win to much, as we need one more draft with high draft picks . . . But DAMN, I wanna see this team win this weekend. Joe is absolutely right, you can feel it. This offense is just about to blow up on someone. Once it does, there will be no turning back. I hope it is this weekend! But it’s gonna be soon. This defense did something that we haven’t talked about. Did you guys notice how many Cards were staying on the ground at the end of last weeks game? The Bucs were absolutely blowing guys up with huge hits. I haven’t seen that in years from our defense. If we can keep that attitude- that violence, on defense, then the Offense stays on the Course it’s on, then we spend all that money we’ll have on a Free agent DE And a couple OLinemen(meybe?), and we are on our way!! By the way, when do we see our new DE Magee, and get Big Brandon Carter in at Guard? Meybe we “rest” Stovall, and Dezmon Briscoe gets ta run around with Parker, Benn, and Williams! I wanna see those Four 6’2″ monsters hurting secondaries together! I really am loving me some Bucs, can ya tell? 🙂
November 2nd, 2010 at 6:30 pm
Buc yourselfRahDomtheracist- SILENCE town fool!! We do not need yor foolish antics to amuse us now! Back to quarters with the swine. We will summon you if we need to mock and scoff at someone! Lmao at the dufus klansman. You are single handedly setting racism back years with your post here. Gotta be killing recruiting in yer “club”
November 2nd, 2010 at 7:53 pm
Did you just call me a racist?
So is that what the current Bucs fanbase has become? Anything said in non agreement to what the hope party believes in is a racist?
I am glad you act the way you do because it just proves your moronic ignorance to call anyone who doesn’t believe the Bucs are the best team in the NFC is a racist. In fact you say one thing about the Bucs bad, you must be not a supporter and are a racist.
Everytime you say that it just makes people more and more sick of your self righteous, street corner attitude.
Trust me when I say this. The silent majority are sick of those who think like you buddy. I suppose you will call me a racist now because I don’t agree with you.
Keep showing your ignorance, you are a pro at it!
November 2nd, 2010 at 9:01 pm
@Buc You,
I understand why you would be upset if someone is calling you a racist and you are not. However, you have shown time and time again that you refuse to give one bit of credit to Raheem. As I stated in a previous post directed at you, it just makes people wonder what is your issue. Are you some coaching genius that puts you in a position to correctly judge his competence at his position? Doubt it. Have you played football at a high level so that you may have some field experience that the rest of us do not. Probably not. Do you have sources inside One Buc Place that are telling you how poor of a job he is doing? Definitely not. So where does all this hate come from? Like I said previously, I don’t see why you are so set on sending someone on the streets who is working as hard as he can to make this team relevant again, and doing a pretty damn good job in the meantime. And I’m sorry, but race is one of the first thing that comes to mind as a possible reason for your hatred (I have a news flash for you, there are some racists still left in this world).
I don’t think any of us really believe we are the best team in the NFC, but we like the direction we are headed. Whereas most of us would have been satisfied (not happy) with 6 or 7 wins, we are now thinking a little higher. That’s a great thing.
Do you really believe that winning 4 tight games in the end in the NFL is an easy thing to do without good coaching? It’s baffling to many how you are so quick to blame him for every loss and bad statistic you can find, yet never give him one ounce of credit for anything good that happens. That shows your ignorance. Stop pointing the finger at other people and look at yourself in the mirror and realize they type of person you are coming across as (accurate or not).
November 2nd, 2010 at 9:04 pm
@Buc You,
If it’s not true, please respond so as we can know the real reason. I have to admit, I’m pretty damn curious.
November 2nd, 2010 at 9:35 pm
@ Capt. Tim
Buc You = Zero Expectations. Not racist just passionately…wrong.
November 2nd, 2010 at 9:48 pm
“Boo F—-n HOO!!!
when the Bics show that they can beat good teams then they might get respect. You sound insecure or something about your Bucs record.
Enjoy the current limelight. For now.”
You’re a tool. Did you even read my post?
The Falcons AREN’T a good team by the standards in which the Bucs are measured. The Falcons aren’t an elite team. They aren’t any better than the Bucs…
November 2nd, 2010 at 9:49 pm
ps-Funniest blast EVER!!!
November 2nd, 2010 at 9:51 pm
Buc You can’t be Zero Expectations. He obviously has expectations of failure and is thoroughly annoyed that Bucs aren’t living down to them. Zero would imply none, neither good nor bad.
November 2nd, 2010 at 9:51 pm
I am neither of those characters.
In fact I find it very offensive that anyone call someone a racist for not agreeing that the Bucs are the best team in the NFC. Or not being sold on Raheem Morris especially after he proclaimed it when the team that beat them in their own division was 5-2 and the Bucs were 4-2.
I don’t have to explain why I am being called a racist. Is this some kind of weird guilt trip you guys are putting me on? I was called a racist today and basically for weeks now because I am not a Raheem Morris believer.
It is pretty sad that this is what defines the Buccaneer fanbase these days. If you don’t like what the head coach is doing the you MUST be a racist.
Go ahead, keep calling me a racist. The silent majority is passively reading and sees right through these double standards.
I
I wonder if all those Gruden haters who couldn’t stand him, even though he won a super bowl with Tampa, 3 division titles and was 9-3 heading into the last 4 games. I wonder if those people who gave Dungy all the credit for the Super Bowl… by Capt Tim’s and some of you other guys logic, those guys were racists too. Anyone who wasn’t rooting for the Bucs when the became 9-4 probably wasn’t a fan. What about when they went 9-5? 9-6? Were those people crying for Gruden to be fired racists too?
So no, I will not explain why Capt Tina keeps calling me a racist. Perhaps you should make his racist ass apologize.
November 2nd, 2010 at 9:55 pm
@Buc You,
Thanks for not answering any of the questions, you really showed us!!! LMAO.
November 2nd, 2010 at 10:16 pm
@Buc You,
Let me say one thing about your response that really pisses me off. I have never, ever rooted against my Buccaneers. I don’t give a damn who is coaching them, I never have and never will. I give Gruden his well-deserved respect for his accomplishments, but it was time for him to go. The team wasn’t growing or developing (just getting old), and a majority of the players couldn’t stand him. There wasn’t much promise of us becoming a real contender anytime with him as the coach. That’s not a knock against him, just reality. The same will probably be true of Morris one day, as it is for ALL NFL coaches. I have no doubt that he can go to another team and be very successful. That has nothing to do with race. However, you can’t even give a logical explanation as to why you have such a beef with him. The reason you can’t is because (as of right now) there isn’t one. By all accounts, he’s a leading candidate for coach of the year, and the team is having a great season so far. It pisses people off that we are doing well, but you sit here and continue to piss on our fire. There’s only one thing worse than having a fan from another team disrespect our team, when it’s done by one of our own. Respond and prove me wrong, but I doubt you will.
November 3rd, 2010 at 5:49 am
Don’t let him lie to you- buc you= rahdomDomthe racist in his 4th new persona
November 3rd, 2010 at 7:57 am
Hey, bucyourselfRahDomtheracist- that” silent majority is tired of those that think like you”! They don’t wear sheets over their heads, do they?? What are they tired of? Being ridiculed for their stupidity? I realize that, in today’s world, no one wants to believe that some people are just rotten, hateful, evil people. I know some of the lollipop guild here want to believe the stuff you post is some kinda”accident”. That you are really some kind hearted , grumpy, misunderstood guy. Not me!! I know who and what you are about. It’s pretty obvious when you post nothing but hatred about a Coach who has exceeded beyond all expectations, is in first place in his division, and is the front runner for coach of the year. When you continue the same hate filled prattle, ignoring what he’s accomplished, then it’s obvious that it has nothing to do with football, or his performance as a coach. It becomes obvious the you are acting on an agenda. Unrelated to his critiques as a coach. AND THIS ISN’T THE PLACE FOR THAT!! This is JoeBucsFan., and we talk football at the highest level here!!!
November 3rd, 2010 at 8:15 am
Hmmm, was that 3 or 4 times he mentioned “The Silent Majority” dadadadumm!!! Lmao- the good ole Silient majority picked YOU as their spokesman??!? REALLY?!? Tell me, how does one feel such a comfort level speaking for , what sounds like, a HUGE group of people?? Did you have to join, and be a long time member? Or do you just go to their rallies? I was just wondering. Sounds pretty presumputious to speak with such certainty for such a large amount of people, when you seem so alone in your opinions with this group of people. Are you sure you know what they are all thinking? How? Is it in their manifesto? Really curious!
November 3rd, 2010 at 8:26 am
So anyone who questions the Buccaneers head coach is a racist?
Message received.
Way to define the buccaneer fanbase with that clause. You Capt Tina represent the current day Bucs fan. Way to set the tone! 🙂
Now carry on and call anyone who doesn’t talk good about your head coach a racist.
November 3rd, 2010 at 8:50 am
I’m not a racist, I hate everyone equally!
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:02 am
Buc You…No not at all. Eric does not come off as a racist, and he does not like Raheem either. Thomas does not come off as a racist either, and we all know his views. I figured you were because I thought you were also Rahdom, who has posted racist remarks before. If you are not him, I have not seen you post anything out right racist….but…you still have not answered the question stated above. I hope you are not rahdom and that you do not hate Raheem for his skin. Prove everyone wrong.
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:27 am
i really dont think buc you is a racist, and i am a black man.he just loves the coach and players that won the superbowl.he wants sapp brooks lynch alstott and hell maybe throw in leroy selmon.not a racist, just an idiot scared of progress.the redskins need guys like you Allens over there shanahan keeps this up you can have a reunion because hell bring gruden back.but one thing i was wondering all we could ask for was progress from one season to the next and you are not satisfied, ill bet if gruden could draft or develope talent he would still be here.but that same mentality that u have scared of change ,im the boss like it or not ,picking petty sensless fights with certain stars got him fired.get over it he is gone, wait a minute, how bad do u really miss gruden.is this a crush on chucky that u have.maybe we got u wrong……….????????????????
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:57 am
I think you guys are all wrong.
Buc You is more likely Radio Mushmouth.
I also haven’t read the “Buc You” racist remarks either.
I mentioned this before, a little brashly without proper etiquette, but I think it is equally as demeaning to call someone a racist that doesn’t deserve it as it is to actually be the racist. Believe it or not, you both live in the same world of hate, just for different reasons.
Joe does not tolerate racist remarks. If Buc You said these things that he is being persecuted for, he would have been warned and then banned.
I don’t like the race card being played without proof. It is akin to the “Boy that cried Wolf”.
Isn’t the fact that have the freedom to openly disagree with each other and our leaders what makes this country great?
When it comes to football, you guys make great points that I agree with about the Bucs, but when you delve into improperly labeling people without just cause, it makes you no better than them.
Lastly, Zero Expectations was Negative Expectations first. Just a quick history lesson.
November 3rd, 2010 at 11:19 am
Good point BigMac…Now, back to football everybody!
November 3rd, 2010 at 11:25 am
Racism is alive and well in America. As a white male, I am discriminated against everyday. So get over it and lets talk some football.
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:13 pm
Mike56-lol. But I have not seen BucYourselfRahDomtheracist talk about Gruden love. Only Raheem hate. Plus, that “Silent Majority”crap is text book doctrine for the the nut case extremist groups. Pretty much anytime you see an individual talk as if he is a spokesman for the masses, he’s been indoctrinated by some radical paranoid hate group. Either that, or ge has delusions of graduer to the point of psychosis! Either way, he continues to write the same hate crap, regardless of what our team is doing- that’s following an agenda, not critizing a coach. Now we’ve wasted enough time on brain wash boy. Who did we sign to fill our vacant roster spots- one for Price, one on practice squad for Will Barker?
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:15 pm
Oar and silent majority- lol. Agreed back ta football
