Ruuuuuuuuud
October 31st, 2010Forget about Barrett Ruud’s incredible awareness to grab a fourth-quarter interception after Geno Hayes played Ray Lewis with a fierce hit over the middle today. Joe is remembering Ruud shedding a block on third down to drop a solo tackle on Beanie Wells at the Bucs 2 yard line.
Trailing 21-14, the Cardinals then failed on fourth down. (Arizona going for it there was perhaps one of the worst coaching decisions since Marvin Lewis stopped running in Cincinnati.)
Those were two huge plays in the Bucs 38-35 win.
Ruud finished with six tackles to lead the Bucs. It wasn’t an All-Pro day for Ruud, he’s still not a real physical presence, but he made impact plays, which is what he hasn’t been doing.
Ruud must become a difference maker for the Bucs to beat good teams.

in all fairness, I saw multiple occasions of him getting dragged by ball carriers, one specifically where he met the rb at the line of scrimmage, one on one, and still allowed a 3 yard gain…but yes, two game saving plays there, great game

Like Al Davis used to say “Just win baby”. That is exactly what Tampa is doing lately.
It ain’t always pretty, but we just win. I thought Ruud played really well today, and his interception really broke Arizona’s back.

I was going to post something about Ruud today anyway. I thought he played really well & that INT was amazing. It will be interesting f the Bucs sign him after the season.

Sorry, but a play here and there at THE playmaking position on defense does not cut it.
On the very first series of the game, Wells came through a hole, only to be met by Ruud who was standing there as opposed to attcking. Wells dragged Ruud for about 2-3 yards before more Bucs helped to bring him down.
It was not a ig gain, but it was all too typical of what we hav come to see from Ruud. He could have hit that hole hard and dropped Wells…… he didn’t
