Faine Will Miss A Few Weeks; Jones OK
October 11th, 2010Bad new for the Bucs.
Starting center and co-captain Jeff Faine will miss at least a few weeks with a “lower body” muscle injury, Raheem Morris said moments ago in his noon news conference.
Faine left Sunday’s dramatic win early in the second half and was replaced successfully with third-year versatile offensive lineman Jeremy Zuttah.
Regarding starting strong safety Sean Jones, who was inured and replaced after the opening play by Sabby Piscitelli, Raheem said Jones “should be fine. He should be ready to go [Sunday].”
Raheem said rookie center Ted Larsen, the 2010 Patriots sixth-round pick from North Carolina State, “will have an opportunity to get a helmet on” as the backup center on Sunday against the Saints.

Faine will be missed but hopefully Zuttah will be better than Mahan was last year….
October 11th, 2010 at 12:38 pm
Ugh…Zuttah literally gets blown up every other play he’s in. Fortunately the next 2-3 teams we play don’t have big space eating DTs for us to deal with.
October 11th, 2010 at 12:47 pm
Good news on Faine, certain news outlet were reporting he might have torn his quad. I thought Zuttah did better at center, than he did at LG. I would assume the Bucs would put Larsen on the active roster in the interm.
October 11th, 2010 at 12:51 pm
Larsen is on the active roster.
Yes Zuttah will start, Larsen immediately becomes the backup G/C, aka what Zuttah did prior to filling in as starting center.

@JOEBUC, LOOK I’M JUST AS EXCITED ABOUT TE WIN JUST AS MUCH AS THE NEXT GUY, BUT IF WAS UGGGGGGGLY. GAVE THE GAME AWAY SEVERAL TIMES THAT I DID NOT THINK THEY HAD A CHANCE TO COME BACK. AND THEIR DAMN LUCKY THEY DID. WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE WHOLE BLOUNT AND HUGGINS EXPERIMENT THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO TAKE PLACE YESTERDAY CONSIDERING THE CADILLAC NOW HAS TWO FLAT TIRES AND SHOULD BE KEPT IN THE GARAGE. BLOUNT AND HUGGINS HAD A COMBINED 5 RUSHES FOR I BELIEVE 7 YARDS OR SOMETHING. I GUESS ITS GOING TO BE GRAHAM THIS WEEK OR WILL THAT CHANGE AGAIN. THEY NEED TO HAVE A MAIN RUNNING BACK. THIS WHOLE COMMUNITY BACK CRAP AINT WORKING. WHAT WERE THOUGHTS OF ALL THE MISCUES BESIDES FIRING YOUR FROSTY BEVERAGES AGAINST THE WALL?LOL

Think Bengals fans would take an ugly win this morning?

Yesterday Morris said it was a bruised quad when interviewed on the radio, now today it’s merely a “lower body injury?” This veiled-secrecy b.s. should be reserved for the military. Just tell us what’s wrong with the players Rah, come on. Spare us the PR antics. It’s not like opponents are gaining an advantage by knowing what muscle is bruised vs. not knowing, so just inform your fans so we can actually follow our team better.
October 11th, 2010 at 1:45 pm
Zuttah will do ok at Center. It’s not the same requirement as G or T. A drop off from Faine, but not Mahan horrible either.
October 11th, 2010 at 1:52 pm
Really Leighroy the exact muscle that is injured is required for you to follow your team better? That is just stupid….
Raheem should also tell us if any of his guys takes a dump at One Buc Place because it affects me following this team!

@Joe or anyone that knows
Did Barrett Ruud get hurt yesterday? I saw Koutivides a few times; never saw Ruud. I know Geno got banged up a little, is he alright? Who came in for him when he was out, Dakoda Watson? Thanks for the info.
October 11th, 2010 at 3:52 pm
@Leighroy, Faine has a lower body injury – just accept it.
Do you REALLY want to know that Jeff didn’t wear a cup yesterday and someone from Cincy stepped on his weiner?
COME ON MAN!!!!

bucfanjeff – Center requires MORE not less then G or T. Zuttah will have to call the blocking schemes against a very very good Saints defense. I read a few weeks ago that Freeman wants to call more of the blocking assignments which would be a good thing. If Sabby didn’t start Bucs would have won 14 to 3. Sabby looked terrible other than the pick. I’m happy for him but what a liability that guy is!!!
October 11th, 2010 at 4:08 pm
PDiidy…I beleive that Freeman is calling most of the coverage. Zuttah played fine, and the Saints D does not look all that great.

Fire Greg Olson:
Saw Ruud, but not much. He was an absolute non-factor yesterday.

If we were a veteran team with a chance at the superbowl, I’d agree 100%. We are not. We are a very young team looking to grow and develope for the future. What if we go 8-8, but all our wins look like this one? I think for a team in our situation, showing improvement is just as, if not more important than wether we win or lose.
These young guys are getting use to winning, and that is a great thing. If we were 0-4 right now, all these young guys would already be accustomed to losing. So winning is very important too. I just think that we have to show improvement too. Somehow we are winning even though we can’t run, can’t stop the run, can’t rush the passer, and can’t protect our QB. It feels like a fluke and doesn’t really matter if we aren’t getting better each week. We played just as bad yesterday as we did vs the Steelers. The only differnce was the Bengals shot themselves in the foot even more than we did. These type of wins don’t make the future look promising to me.
October 11th, 2010 at 5:00 pm
Talib, Biggers, Barber, Black and maybe Grimm on defense.
Freeman, M.Williams, Stroughter, and Winslow on offense.
Everyone else has been pretty bad thru 4 games.
It’s great to see those guys doing so well, especially Freeman/M.Williams, but I just can’t get excited about 3-1 when the list of consistantly good players is so short.
October 11th, 2010 at 5:02 pm
Faine hasn’t dominated since he joined the Bucs. I doubt this will be too much of a setback unless Zuttah stinks it up.

Guess you don’t remember what a total jailbreak it became last year for opposing defenses when Faine went out?
October 11th, 2010 at 5:51 pm
Look at the bright side of things Jeremy Trueblood hasn’t been flagged for any bonehead calls yet. These guys are getting the job done regardless of the stats
October 11th, 2010 at 6:47 pm
I dunno about some of you guys, but I’m enjoying this win. We beat a team that is one year removed from a division title. As young as this team is, that says a lot. They will only get better & hopefully surprise a few more teams.
October 11th, 2010 at 7:47 pm
Guys! We are 3 and 1!
This is awesome news.
Zuttah was WAAAAY better than Mayhem was last year, and I say that because I didn’t notice a drop off in production.
GO BUCS!!!!!
October 11th, 2010 at 9:45 pm
I think Faine is over rated. I’m not saying he isn’t a good center. I think he is, but we made him the highest paid center in the league and he has never been great for us. Just good.
I hope we can get some O-line help in FA next year, so we don’t have to spend our entire draft on the O-line.
October 11th, 2010 at 10:34 pm
Actually, I think Penn and Faine have dominated, and everyone else on our OL has struggled. Zuttah looked OK at center yesterday
October 11th, 2010 at 10:47 pm
Was rewatching the first four games and Faine has gotten blown up and thrown around alot. I’m not saying Zuttah will be better, but Faine really hasn’t been earning his huge contract imo.
October 11th, 2010 at 11:55 pm
Tim,
Gotta disagree with you this time. Usually we see eye to eye, but Donald Penn has been getting beat badly this year. I’ve been saving the games each week and watching them through. Mainly because I don’t see the line play as well during the game, like most people, I follow the ball. But, rewatching the games, Penn has been beat so many times it’s ridiculous. I won’t even blame him for getting burned by a DB on a blitz, where he touched no one, and got Freeman hit pretty good. I also won’t give him credit for a pancake block on a DB that weighs 100 lbs less than him. He better pancake that guy.
He’s been beat in run blocking, in pass blocking, in blitz pickup. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not picking on him. Trueblood, while playing virtually penalty free ball, hasn’t exactly been stellar either. Joseph has had real trouble in run blocking (supposed to be his strength). Faine has been pushed around, but he’s also been a leader on the line helping Freeman with blocking assignments on blitzes (the other linemen just don’t seem to be listening). Vincent and Zuttah aren’t really good or bad, just serviceable at this point. I think Zuttah is better suited at center, so should be good the next few weeks.

This from Pro Football Focus:
“Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Bucs’ pass protection has given up 73 total pressures as they aim to make life as difficult as possible for Josh Freeman. The tackles were responsible for 43.84 percent of that pressure.”
It’s pretty obvious nobody on the line is doing anything this year.

Kris O’Dowd and John Moffitt
October 12th, 2010 at 1:37 am
73 pressures isn’t too bad when the Bengals and Steelers combined blitzed about 80 times. Young QB, they’re going to blitz him a lot. He made them pay in the end and a Win is a Win.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:41 am
We may disagree on Penn, but we both agree that the line is playing bac
October 12th, 2010 at 5:36 am
“bad”. Seems like two areas that were allegedly gonna be strengths have again proven not to be so! Our linebackers just are invisible against the run, and I’d see them getting pressure on the blitzes. They also seem to be a step behind on passes to the TE and Backs! Don’t get me wrong, I am happy with the team, and can’t believe we are 3-1, just surprised that our “areas of strenght” aren’t turning out that way!
