Rough Day At One Buc Palace Got Rougher

Joe takes no joy whatsoever in writing about how a Bucs assistant coach got popped for a DUI last night. That’s not to say Joe enjoys writing about any misdeeds. But if Joe is going to bring you the news of players misbehaving, so too must he with coaches.
After a day in which the Bucs let loose Kardashian-chasing Derrick Ward and found out Aqib Talib was suspended for the season opener against Cleveland, Bucs assistant defensive line coach Chris Mosley was popped last night for a DUI, reports Josh Poltilove of the Tampa Tribune.
A Ford sport utility vehicle driven by Mosley didn’t stop for a red light on Armenia Avenue, so an officer pulled it over late Tuesday, a police report states. The officer said Mosley’s breath smelled of alcohol and that Mosley had glassy, bloodshot eyes and swayed while standing.
Mosley was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after failing a field sobriety test, police said.
In 2009, Mosley served as an assistant offensive line coach for the Buccaneers. Prior to that, he coached tight ends at Princeton University in 2008 and was a graduate assistant at Boston College in 2007.
Joe’s not sure if not stopping for a red light means he blew the red light or he didn’t come to a full stop. Big, big difference.
Sad way to start a morning for Joe. More than sad for Mosley. He better hope the Bucs do well because Joe believes he’ll have a hard time getting a college gig with a DUI on his record.

Sorry, I just can’t make jokes with DUI’s. When you experienced a drunk driver run into your house in the middle of the night, it changes your perspective on things. I have no sympathy for this coach or any other dope who gets behind the wheel after drinking, period.

Actually, I looked it up.
“Chris Mosley, a 32-year-old assistant defensive line coach, was arrested at Swann and Moody avenues at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to a police report.”
So he went through a light at Armenia and got arrested at Swann and Moody.
Since Armenia ends at Swann and Moody is east of Armenia, he must have been driving east on Swann and went straight through the light at Armenia.

How is there a big, big difference in whether he blew through the red light or rolled through it? The officer had cause to stop him and when he smelled the alcohol he had cause to give him a sobriety test. Not really sure where the red light comes into question. The man was drinking and driving, the red-light is secondary.

I had a client once who had a glass eye. Had some fun at trial with the “glassy eyes” description from the cop, which occurs in every DUI case.
And of course the “strong odor of alcohol” on the breath, blah blah, blah.

Blowing through a red light = not even tapping the brake.
Rolling through a light = you’ve made an attempt to stop, or at least slow down, but you have not come to a complete halt.
Huge difference.
Having once had to have surgery as a result of someone (apparently sober) blowing through a red light, T-boning Joe and totaling Joe’s truck, trust Joe, he would much rather someone roll through a stop light making a right turn and then hitting Joe.

I don’t disagree, but it’s a secondary offense compared to him drinking and driving.
